Xbox Delayed 1 Week

Microsoft said on Friday that it would delay the launch of its XBox video game console by one week to Nov. 15 but declined to clarify exactly how many units it will have available at launch.

The decision was made "after going through a review -- obviously doing a lot of reviewing this past week -- of our integrated systems for launch," said Robbie Bach, chief XBox officer for Microsoft.

Microsoft still plans to ship between 1 million and 1.5 million units to retailers by the end of the calendar year, Bach said.

When asked if Microsoft was sticking by its initial projection of 600,000 to 800,000 units at launch, or lowering it as had been speculated this week, Bach would not provide a figure, saying we've just moved on to not focusing on the day one number."

Analysts, retailers, and game publishers have said that the number of consoles available on the launch day could be closer to 300,000.

Well, it looks like Microsoft is still confident about the number of consoles they can produce, but they are taking an extra week to ensure that it gets done. I'm sure there will be some mixed feelings about this, but this doesn't change all that much, except will have to be a little bit more patient.

I Cant Believe It...
Maby Its Better Off With All This Comotion Going On...

I read the article at ign and at team xbox and couldn't find one solid reason for the delay other than SOMEONE miscalculated something. Are video game companies THAT incompetent that they cannot specify a launch date and stick to it? Someone needs to do a little math and get their projections straight. This is bull *****...

Just Sounds To Me like Someone Somewhere Thought They Could Churn Out More Systems a Week Than They actually Could...
SoOo In Order To Keep Up With Demand They Had To Pospone It's release To Catch Up To Their Projected Figure's...

M$ Says:
"System launch pushed back in order to meet projected launch numbers".

Might Also have something to do with this war stuff,

The reason was that their factory in Mexico didn't produce as many as they though it could...that's what you get for moving your factory down to mexico in order to pay the workers slave labour.

i will be the only brave soul in this room to defend the little purple box( that could )with all of my might! First off i think it should be commended that nintendo will actually ship 700,000 units in north america than x-box 300,000 pathetic launch numbers.I also want to note that probably 80% percent of the people in this room probably onced owned a nintendo product.whether it be gameboy, super nes,or the nes. Nintendo has been in the hardware business for 1 6 years and if it's worth

anything..i'll gladly put my hard earn money on nintendo than take a chance on a new comp..i mean on an x-box.bashing gamecube and calling it a kiddie system does not make you mature only because you support x-box..on the contrary..it makes u look like even bigger kids. Now i have a ps2 and will buy a gamegube on launch day.X-box has not convinced me in the slightest bit because it's trying to be like sony so much that it makes me sick.sony has it's identity..so does gamecube..but x-box has no personality, will be the first to boast out fake numbers, and as far as the launch games go..if it werent for dead or alive 3 i would seriously think of the machine as useless.Star wars rogue leader looks 10 times better than all of the launch games x-box has to offer and will probaly even end up being game of the year.I seriously hope that system figures out what the hell it is instead of stealing the sony handbook on success..hate me all you want..but i am here as the anti-x-box and will support gamecube to the fullest..thank you

I stopped reading your dribble after this retarded sentence. Microsoft is shipping 1 million to 1.5 million at launch. They are not behind schedule and there are no production problems.

Pleasure research something before you try to defend your pathetic console. You only make yourself look dumb and support our console when you either make stuff up or you don't know your a$$ from a rat-hole.

Xbox is the best console on the market. Know it. Accept it.

Um, YEAH!
XBOX Delay, NO Shortage, NO BIG DEAL!

Even With The Delay They Will still Launch With More Units Than Game Cube & PS2...
It's Only A Week Folk's!

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Microsoft's press release on the 21st:
Xbox will launch in North America on Nov. 15, 2001. The company also reconfirmed it will ship 1 million to 1.5 million Xbox consoles to North American retailers this holiday season, with replenishment of more than 100,000 Xbox units each week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Microsoft said about the November 15th launch, "more than 100,000" units per week, contradicts what Ed Fries said on September 18th, "When we do start (manufacturing), we can make about 150,000 units a week." I'm thinking that they overestimated the production capacity of their factory in Mexico. Perhaps they didn't realize until yesterday that they couldn't handle the demand as well as planned. So, they started manufacturing immediately and delayed launch one week, so they could deliver what they promised at launch.

If you do the math, it really all makes sense. At the original 150,000 units a week, it would take only 5 weeks and 2.3 days for them to produce 800,000 units. This would give them until October 1st to start production (maybe a couple days before to ensure the units have enough time to be shipped to retailers by the 8th) and deliver the 800,000 units at launch.

But after they realized that they overestimated their production capabilities, they started production immediately. From the 21st of September to the 15th of November is 7 weeks and 6 days. This gives them theoretically enough time to produce 771,429 units, including a day for shipping. But notice that they said "more than 100,000 units each week," which probably means anywhere between 100,000 and 110,000. If it were 110,000, that would mean they have the time to make 848,571 units before the 15th, including a day for shipping.

So in conclusion, there will be NO SHORTAGE OF UNITS, because given the current production rate specified by Microsoft, they will physically be able to pump out 771,429 to 848,571 units by the 15th (including a day for shipping of course).
Laterz...

UPDATE:When questioned if Microsoft will have enough consoles to meet it's deadline, they offered no comment. It is very likely that the reason for the delay is that Microsoft doesn't have enough consoles to meet it's 600,000 launch goal. The real numbers may actually be closer to 300,000. This will put it within 3 days of the GameCube launch, which is something I'm sure Microsoft did not want to do. More details as they come

LOL! You really need to read the ENTIRE article before you say something. Picking out one sentence and exploiting it does nothing.

Your "update" was posted on Sept 20, 2001.
Doom's article was posted on Sept 21, 2001.

So, tell me, in all your brilliance, how do you figure the artile you posted was an update when it was posted in the past?

"Still, Microsoft is reticent to state whether it will officially ship the numbers that were initially promised, which were between 600,000 to 800,00 units at launch."

You have been outsmarted, kid. You are out of your league here.

hmmmmmmm..do you know that several chains including eb and wal-mart stopped taking in any more x-box preorders because they were given the news that the initial launch numbers were cut short.they may ship their supposed 1 to 1.5 million bye the end of the year(even that is iffy) but the launch will recieve around 300,00 dude..sorry to bust ur bubble.

p.s. of course microsoft will not omment on their shortcummings..but the truth remains that they will not deliver on their promise!

Hmmmm i dont think youve researched your facts mr nintendo. The xbox was delayed. And the shipments are still gonna be 1 to 1.5 million. Now i know you'll deny it with all your heart cause letting us be right would hurt your ego and might make you angry and then you might lash out at middle school and your mom will take away your allowance! but its okay. we understand. we know we are right and it would kill you to admit that.

Fellow XBox dudes...

Funionz said it best by saying that he doesn't care if the XBox costs $700 and won't come out until next year!

I mean, the XBox already costs $100 more than the GameCube. Why? It's simple economics: Supply and Demand. Eventhough XBox is going to be great on the supply, the demand for the XBox is much higher than the GameCube.

The XBox is simply a better system. On top of that, it's an AMERICAN SYSTEM made by an AMERICAN COMPANY who knows what AMERICANS want to see on their TV screens!

I'm atleast happy to see that the Game Cube controller doesn't look like a rice bowl :D
