View Full Version : Brute Force: Halo killer??

I just read the article in the latest issue of OXM on Brute Force. Holy cow, it looks good! Just wanted to see what everyone's opinion and anticipation of this is like.

Looks to me like this may just one-up Halo (do I dare say that?).

I had to post just to ask you if you feel feverish or something, because i could have sworn that you said something about Brute Force may just be "one-up" on HALO:confused:

Well Brute Force may sound tyte, and yea by the screens it seems like its gonna be real good, and there's lots of hype surrounding it, but still IMO it aint no HALO.

Untill next time...

Does anyone know if there will be co-op in Brute Force.

04-24-2002, 05:27 PM
Well, you're innocent until proven guilty, so Halo's still top dog in my book as of right now. But I dunno... if you haven't read the article, this game sounds great. One character can use two weapons at once, one is a sniper specialist, one is a stealthy scout with the ability to kill silently. Fun stuff. We'll just have to see.

yea, its gonna be an awesome game, but i dont think it will be a halo killer, it will come pretty close though, the sad thing is that it has no system link or online play:eek:

Batman2372
04-24-2002, 05:31 PM
That's one of the cool things, Laphex. You can start out in single player, and during the course of the game, you can have friends come in and drop out at will, all the while saving your progress on the game. To make it cooperative, all you have to do is plug in another controller! (according to OXM)

That's pretty nifty in my book.

I didn't realize it wasn't online or system-link. Are yall sure? If it's not, well, then there's now way it will knock off Halo. Hmm... I'll have to reread that article.

Also, the biggest key element that I'm not sure about in regards to Brute Force is it having a multi-player option. I've heard "yes" and I've heard "no". So, I guess we'll have to wait and see what Brute Force really has in store for us.

I've also heard "yes" and I've heard "no" in regards to System Link. On-line capability, I've only heard "no". Of course, at this point, it seems that we are lacking information.

This is what I do know:

It's a Squad based shooter...you can play 1-4 people co-operatively...a buddy can jump in and out at will, as mentioned by Batman2372. There are 4 levels only, however, because of their enormous size, it hardly detracts from the game. This game is also played in 3rd person.

If you ask me, this game is entirely different from Halo. But, it's definately going to be a kick ass game and I will definately pick it up! I've been all over this game ever since I first saw and heard about it!! :)

u know, brute force keeps getting delayed and delayed all the time and i think they were working on the multiplayer mode. i read that somewhere on the net. not sure where, i'll try to find it and post it on here.

I wonder if brute force will get delayed again to add in the system link and online mode.i jsut hope not bc i want to paly this game very bad. Who knows? maybe they r working on the system link and online secretly now and didnt tell oxm.

in the newest issue of oxm, they have a huge preview for the game, it has ALOT of information, its like 5 pages long i think, u should pick up that issue. it also has the doa3 addon on the demodisc, but sadly, my disc didnt work, so i had to order a new one:D

Yea, i see your point man, and i must admit that i too am getting this game the very first time it hits shelves. Then we'll all see if Brute Force can hold a candle to Halo, or will it just be a whisper in the wind.

yea..im pretty psyched about this game...but i don't know about it being a "halo-killer"...they're both in the same action genre, but one is 3rd person and the other is 1st person....also, halo has different mechanics in the game than brute force, such as only 2 co op, but hey, you get to ride the warthog anywhere you like, right?

im not sure about brute force's levels...i think it will be more than 4 levels...maybe 4 worlds, and in it there will be different levels...oh well, we'll have to wait and see if it can live up to its hype...halo already did ;)

I just finished reading the Brute Force story in the June OXM, and saw this topic. I saw a couple of questions/remarks that were answered in the Issue.

First off, Maximus, there WILL be a multiplayer mode with deathmatches, CTF's, and others they didn't name.

And JADE, what I get from your last comment is questioning the longevity of Brute Force. Well, the OXM article states that it would take a "good gamer" around 30-40 hours to complete the game, and that is WITHOUT looking around at the environment, and the surroundings,

My guess is becuase it will still only sell for $50.

If they put too much time into making the game then the profits go out the window.

Thats right!

You can be playing your mission mode and have 3 friends jump in right there. ANd they can quit and the computer will take over on the fly. Dam, I read the latest OXM and im pumped. This game is gonna be great!

And its gonna be way more then 4 levels, Beleed daT!

They said short levels with nothing to them take 20 minutes. And they said it should take about 40 hours to complete the game. But you could always approach any level a differeny way, Drasticly boosting the replay value.

Im sold.....

Plus Hawk is rendered nicely :D

The article, like JJax said, has both co-op (up to four players) and multiplayer, but it doesn't say anywhere about not being system-link or online capapble. I can't imagine it being multiplayer and not being at least system-link.

There are four different worlds, not just four different levels. I did not get the impression that it was 3rd person. The way I understood it, it was more along the lines of Rainbow Six, where you can sub into any of the characters of the team, but you ARE that character. I may be wrong on that, but that's how it sounded and looked from the screen shots in OXM.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think they did say it was all from a 3rd person perspective, but lets hope for the option to have it be 1st person.

And changing squad member is as simple as pressing the correct direction on the D-pad. You can also give commands in a similar fashion choose squad mate give command. Im sure to be good at the game you have to be able to switch squad mates and throw out commands with out even thinking about it. But it will all be a user friendly system. But then again theres always the option of trying to be a hero and just going at it with one squad member. And you can loose squad mates too, But you can clone them for a hefty price.

Thanks, Fanofslipknotib! Wow, in the article, did it actually say that it will have deathmatches and CTF games? Man, I heard that the article didn't go into that much detail...I guess some people didn't read the entire thing! All I know is that I have not read the article and I can't wait to pick up the latest issue to check it out first hand! I trust that you are saying is true and that just makes me even more pumped up for this game!

One would think that since it has multi-player that it would, atleast, be System Link capable. On-line? Maybe not. But, I guess we'll have to see the details on these things when the game gets closer to launching.

My only concern is that Brute Force was supposed to be ready for the UK launch...not only there, but, also here in the United States (and Canada, of course). But, it got delayed...which is okay. But, my main concern is that eventhough they had this game almost ready to go, we still didn't have all of the necessary information (i.e. Does it have System Link capability and/or can it be played on-line? etc...).

I hope further news surfaces sometime soon about these features and whether or not it has them. But, I would like to note that it would not be a deal killer! I can't wait for this game regardless!!

Also, JJaX makes an amazing point...I think it would be sweet if Brute Force had the ability to be played in both 3rd and 1st person! That would be AMAZING!!! I prefer FPSs, but, if it's only a 3rd person shooter, I'll still be fine :)

First off Max, read my post right before your's about the system link.

Also, here is exactly what it says in the magazine, straight from the article:

And if you don't feel like cooperating, you can always chose from several other multiplayer modes, including Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and (we're promised) other, more innovative modes.

So there you have it. This game should kick ass.

hey max...amybe if u suscribed u wouldn't have to wait till your local newsstand gets it!!! (god i'm sick of saying that:D )

dude this issue of OXM ROX!!! the brute forc coverage is in eXtremely indepth..i couldn't be more stoked about this game...it is now my most anticipated game!!!!!
a few facts:
NO ONLINE PLAY
NO SYSTEM LINK
4 player Co-op or vs features via various different multiplayer modes.
u can upgrade, buy and find new weapons!!!
4 types of grenades (i know one type is a gas grenande(available and 2 types of BOMBS!!!! including the appallingly dangerous wheel bomb that rolls around till it finds some alien to blow up!!
some missions range from 15-20 mins ( to break up gameplay) to mch much longer ....u would expect so since it does take 30-40 hours of pure gameplay to complete without any exploring:eek:
money seems to play a factor as in the playable characters are clones (a la arnolds movie THE SIXTH DAY) where u can be killed and re cloned countless times.
the graphics are jaw dropping....the editors elude to them surpassing those found in halo...especially when it comes down to details and things like explosions!! unless you pick the super stealth character that can blend with enviroments and sneak up on people and kill via her knife, on the planet that is composed mostly of sand...the other characters will leave footprints!!! (maybe alerting baddies al la metalgear?)
the AI is supossed to be top notch....enemies and allies included..
it is 3rd person...and u can give orders like simpley to you other CPU comrades or even switch to use them as your main character on the fly!!! and of course one of , what i consider to be one of the best features, have a buddie or buddies join (or leave) your game at ANYTIME (its about time they games started applying this feature again!!!).

man i could probably go on and on and on...this game is gonna be SAAAAWEEEEEET!!!!!

If I was making a game for Xbox, It would be balls out a great game. I would add a custom soundtrack, multiplayer, system link, a GOOD single player, online play, etc. If it was a shooter, It would have up to 15 different vehicles, tons of weapons, tons of grenades, a fully customizable controler figuration, etc.

And Brute Force is way different from Halo. Halo if first person, Brute Force is second. I just hope the controls are fully customizable. That is what EVERY game needs. Take Max Payne for example. I HATE when the strafe and run directions are on the same joystick. I like run/look sideways for the left joystick and look up and down/strafe for the right one. I cant control anything else because im so used to that. I run into walls and stuff on Max Payne all the time, and that made it a bad game to me.

I don't like games that have the 1st/3rd person shooter option. Those games, it's always better to play in third. Like take Project Ego on PS2, it was 4 player and you could play in 1st or 3rd but you moved sooooo damn fast in 1st person mode plus when you shot guys it just looked so bad. Rainbow Six is alright in 1st person but I still prefer 3rd. This game would be AMAZING system link. I mean imagine your guys have all these awesome weapons you bought and the other team is like "HOLY ****! WHERE'D YOU GET THAT???" then they shoot something at you and your like "WTF? THAT WAS AWESOME!" It would be like a mini-Counterstrike. None the less, a good 4 player co-op game has always been wanted. PS2 tried it with Project Ego and man that sucked. But with the power of Xbox, this 4 player co-op is gonna rule! Signing off...

np studpaper...i urge any half way serius xbox fan to suscribe to OXM immediatley..u save huge amounts compared to newsstand price and its deffinately worth it! anyways to answer your questions

i don't recall (or see while i'm now skimming the article ) a mention or screen shot of vechiles ..so i wouldn't count on it

no mention on total #'s of weapons...but certain characters can or can't use certain weapons.....i'm guessing theirs gonna be a DECENT AMOUNT

also something EXTREMELY EXCITING is they mentioned is the gameplay is eXtremely similar to HALO....the developers stated while change something thats already great!

also i'm 99% postive the writer eluded to saying their was they were intially aiming for 40 playable characters but had to cut back to 4....and then eluded to a possible expasion/booster disc al la DOA3!!!!!

my take....new characters!!! new weapons!!! new levels!!! possible VECHILES!!!! SAWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEET!!!!

also theirs 4 primary planets ...but a couple others that you'll visit briefly (so the article reads)..if that clears anything up

Yeah, dude...I'm seriously stoked about this game, too...I always have been from second "one" :D It is still kind of a bummer that they didn't add the System Link capability.
