Hello

I have a new tv, the tv have a s-vhs input.

Is a s-vhs better than a Scart ?

And i have Dolby-pro-logic in my tv with L,R, Center, 2 Rear.
Do i have now a better sound in some games?

THX

be sure to se your audio settings in your Xbox Dashboard.

And im assuming S-vhs is the samething as S-Video over here in America. If thats the case, YES you want S-vhs. You will notice a sharper image and better color.

Hmmm im not familuar with your hard-ware stores in Vienna, So i wouldnt know. And i dont believe you can change your Hz in the dashboard. This is all foreign to me. I would suggest Private messaging someone like: Hugh_Jass

He would probaly be able to help you out.

We need some European videophiles on here. I got our NTSC system down pat but as soon as people mention Pal and scart and hz it all becomes Egyption to me.

NTSC:

National Television Standards Committee
max Resolution 640*480
interlaced
60Hz = 30 Frames per second

PAL:
Phase Alternating Line
max Resolution 768*576
50Hz = 25 Frames per second

NTSC is lower resolution but its faster remember the 60Hz vs. the 50Hz !

Thats why it takes so long to get new games in europe.
Most or all of the game companys are in america.

bye

I'm in the UK, so i'm not sure if you can get RGB cables but for the best picture quality you should see if your TV supports RGB Scart, but if it doesn't get S-Video as there isn't that much of a difference. :)

From Best to Worst (in terms of XBOX):

Component
SCART
S-Video
Composite
RF

Quick question: If I connect my Xbox to my DVD/VCR player via component, and output that unto my TV's component input, will I lose some picture quality (visually) along the way?

BTW: Do I buy the HDTV cable set or which one is the one w/ component?

I was just about to type that then noticed your post:D Composite is RCA for PAL Xbox if anyone wanted to know.

Peter1979 to get dolby digital 5.1 to work you will need to hook it via fibre optic cables.

I think PAL-60 is more to do with upping the rate on TV's that can handle NTSC, I think it is only a relatively newer thing on TVs to make a kind of crossover between PAL's higher resolution and NTSC's higher refresh rate.

I think it is better if you leave your setting to normal PAL, don't set the PAL-60, leave it at 50, so that your TV can double scan your picture from 50 Hz to 100 Hz.

As for connecting through DVD/VCR, it is actually better not to conenct it through there. I'd aviod putting it through extra connections, as the more things it goes through, the more likely there is to be interference. Unless it's passing through a receiver, ie Dolby Digital/DTS, I'd connect straight in..

If we get an Xbox game and set it for PAL 50 we get about and inch of black boarders on top and bottom of the screen and the games runs at about 85% speed, Where as if it is set at PAL 60 we get no boarders and full speed.

That's true about the borders on some games, but i haven't seen any really bad conversions from ntsc to pal on the xbox. Halo is a very good conversion, considering that it's actually better in pal-50 than it is on pal-60. In the official uk xbox magazine the may edition got a feature on it and from the interview with Paul Fox (european marketing manager) it looks like us pal users aren't gonna get such a raw deal with xbox conversions. Unlike what the pal users got with devil may cry on ps2. That was such a bad conversion that Capcom had to make a public apoligy. :D
