Unless one has already started in another area, I figure I'd start a pre-E3 post. I know there's a bunch of people on here that are going to E3 this year (including myself), so I wanted create a forum for us to set meeting points. I know there's gonna be a lot of great after hours parties, and I wanna meet some fellow Xbox Addicts! So, if you're going, let me know, and we'll arrange a group meeting, maybe grab a beer, play some games, etc. I'm going to be there all three days, digital camera in hand, so I look forward to hanging with all of you.

This thread is also for everyone else who just wants to talk about E3, i.e. rumors, facts, hopes, fears, and general hype. May is the month of madness for us gamers, so lets start chattin'!

Shoot, now that I think about it, I guess I would answer my own questions too!:o

I hope Konami will finally reveal MGSX. If they dont then this game is not coming to the Xbox, period. The same goes for GTA3 (which im sick of hearing about:rolleyes: ).
I wanna know more about Project Let Go My EGO!:D
Hopefully a new name will be announced for it im predicting.

And I want da low down on the Xbox version of the Dreamcast classic masterpiece in Shenmue II.

And of course im looking forward to the Xbox Live announcements. Like monthly pricing!

I agree with Ninja as far as the PS2 titles being ported the XBox.

My main question is that I know E3 is supposed to be for those in the industry, it does not seem that hard to get in. Is there something that I'm missing? most likely. just tell me what it is.

My basic plan right now is if i can get the time off from my non-industry job i can get there through a friend's company.

Please let me know if it is more complicated than this. I have checked out the official site and it seems awfully easy.

Totally Ninja Scroll...right when I wrote it as the "official" thread, I hit myself...I'm such a dork. Oh well. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Brute Force. And, I would love to see a playable demo of any game that uses the voice communicator. The only thing I'm bummed about is I'm leaving the night before my copy of Hunter: The Reckoning shows up at my office (I had to take advantage of the online preorder since they're giving away a free copy of Night of the Living Dead with the purchase). I was hoping to bring it with me so I could convert the buddy I'm staying with while I'm there. Oh well, looks like my current library will have to suffice. What about you Ninja? Any games you're looking forward to?

Well Duke, it's a yes and no question. For me, I got in through a friend who had ties to a prominent video game magazine. In fact, my ticket includes Wednesday...the day it's closed off to the public. But I have to sign a bunch of forms AND provide 2 forms of identification. As far as Thurs. and Fri. go, I think you can get in if you pay $250. Other than that, I'm sure people can get in without paying, such as what you and I are doing. The thing is, they want to regulate it a little so that you don't have hoardes of people coming.

Oh, and Ninja, another game I CAN'T WAIT for is Project Ego.

Here is my dream E3:

1. Morrowind lives up to the hype
2. P. Ego is given its official name and release date
3. MS announces that there will be no monthly XboxLive charge
4. Nintendo and Sony follow Sega's lead, withdraw from the console market, and pledge just to make games for the box.

Hey, I said it was a dream.

It's tentative that I may be going to E3, however, there is a chance that it can fall through. I hope it doesn't!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I would say that the biggest things I'm looking forward to hearing more about are:

1. The details of XBox Live - all around details - how the community is going to work, pricing, games and future games that will be played on-line, and the voice communicator! :D
2. I would like more details about Unreal Championship...for example: the types of weapons that will be used, the characters' strengths and weaknesses, the types of vehicles, etc. I can't wait for this game!
3. More detail about Brute Force, too! I can't wait for this game either!!!
4. I'm looking forward to the announcement of Halo 2!
5. Also, what are some of the new games?

Gentlemen!!! This is going to be HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Im excited for Brute Force too Stiffy,..and the OXM cover story only added fuel to my flame in anticapation!

You say you wanna see playable demo's for the voice communicator titles? I aswell, you know all the online Xbox games HAVE to have this feature in order to be an online title by Microsoft's standards or it will not be allowed to have online features at all. pretty strict, but useful policies.

HEY YO!!!! What online store is giving away a free DVD just for pre-ordering Hunter: The Reckoning?

And the games im looking forward too? Well, I wanna know more about Shenmue II, Soul Calibur 2, Project EGO, & Brute Force... several others as well.
But im more into the SUPRISES games to be announced no one knows about. You know ever E3 has surpises titles revealed for games non of us expect? Ya feel me.

hey Maximus, let me know when you find out if you're definitely going or not. I'd love to do a group shot of all the X-Addicts at the show :D Also, KraftSLU, about the payment for online gaming, I really don't mind the charge, so long as it's cheap. Who knows, they may go the same way as Sega did with the Dreamcast. Remember that deal? It was free for the first certain number of hours (I think it was 50), and after that, it was $20 a month. The problem was, they never counted down the hours on my account, or anyone else's as far as I know. So, I played online for over a year and never paid one cent except for my monthly connection fee. Nice! Either way, this communicator thing is gonna open so many cool doors gaming. I absolutely loved playing PSO for the Dreamcast because I could type messages in while playing. I can't imagine how fun it'll be to play a game similar to Project Ego with this new capability. Ninja, as far as surprises go, I have my bets that we're gonna see a lot of companies go multiplatform...including Rare. I know it's speculative that the whole Nintendo/Rare relationship is sour, but I just don't see Rare sticking with one console for too much longer. What do you all think?

I think predicting Rare will go multi-platform is a loooong shot!
But I dont keep on the latest happenings in Nintendo land, so I cant say.
But I think outside of Goldeneye, Rare has not been a force to be reckoned with. Just my opinion.
Teh surprises im looking for are games to be announced, like MGSX & GTA3.... hopefully, cause im stick of the rumors.

But a Square on Xbox would be a dream come true!
Who know, things will probably go down at E3 that non of us are expecting.

I know one thing is for sure. It will be a much better show than that lack luster performance last year.:)

I think it was just that Microsoft was wet behind da ears in their first year, so they are ready to roll this time around!
Go MS Go!!!!!!;)

Stiffy
05-01-2002, 02:18 PM
Yeah, I agree about the whole Rare thing...but one has to hope. I think that, given the freedom, Rare could do some great things for the industry as a whole. I loved Goldeneye, and I absolutely loved the freshness they brought to the who 3rd person genre with Conker's Bad Fur Day. But, that one failed in the market primarily because Nintendo wouldn't allow them to market the game in certain mediums b/c of its content. I would love it if Square hopped on board, if only for the name they bring. Personally, I've never cared for the whole FF series, but I understand its value in the console market. The more the merrier. Last year's poor performance by MS was totally understandable in my opinion. After all, they had more important things to worry about...like getting the Xbox ready for launch! I thought the media was WAY too harsh on them...for a company's first showing at E3 I thought they weren't all that bad.

The games I am looking forward to the most are as follows...

Project Ego - This game is so intricate, I cannot phatom it...i'll need to play it for myself just to believe it. And play it I will, days at a time.

Morrowind - Right around the corner, 16 days (if you count today and the release date), and I preordered it already...I cant wait any longer.

Enclave - This game is the most visually impressive video game I have ever seen...the bump mapping is insane, the textures are 100% realistic, there's multiplayer, etc. I just hope the controls are easy to use.

Steel Battalion - AKA Tekki. I probably wont get this game unless i get a real lot of money when it comes out, but it sure looks like alot of fun.

Grand Theft Auto 3 - ******, just release this game already! I cant wait for this game either.

Brute Force - Looks great. I just hope the controls are easy to use, and is this game third person? I hope they have first person for multiplayer...probably wont, but it will still kick ass.

Hunter: The Reckoning - Looks like alot of fun. And if you preorder it from EB, the store itself, do you get the free dvd also? Because old skool horror/slasher movies are awesome.

Mech Assault - Whats better than walking around in a 100 ton killing machine, toppeling over buildings and shooting whatever that moves? Not much.

Rainbow 6 III - I loved the Rainbow 6 for the PC, the original version. I'd love to play this game online, with those crazy japanese kids that kill you as soon as you turn a corner...yeah, they'll be on my team...

Ghost Recon - I love tactical shooters. Making plans and then executing them with a team of guys...loads of fun, especially online. I can play squad-based tactical shooters for months online and not get bored, unless my team is consisted of people who run around shooting everything and anything that moves...that just sucks. Strategy is fun if you know what your doing.

EHWfedPres, I'm not sure if EB stores are doing the same offer. But, I figure, if you can order online, do it...that way you're avoiding paying sales tax. As far as your list goes, nice! I think all those games are gonna rock. I REALLY hope they add a FP view to Brute Force. Especially after the bad press it has gotten after everyone found out that there wasn't gonna be any LAN connections. They have to change this!

EHWfedPres
05-01-2002, 02:53 PM
I doubt they will be that stupid, like those of you who come to this board and think whatever date you see, you get to play the game on.

Anyway, I hear about people that are going to E3...but the recent OXM says that its not open to the public...unless I didnt read it right, but who knows, OXM also said they would have a big Brute Force preview next issue...about 4 issues back they said that...and we finally get it...finally.

Stiffy
05-01-2002, 02:56 PM
Actually, I think Thursday and Friday are open to the public...if you want to pay $250 for a ticket. That's what I've been hearing at least. It's their little way of making sure that not everyone and their mother can get in. I've been working for about 2 months now trying to secure my ticket. I am so glad I got the one that allows me in on Wednesday....no crowds!

EHWfedPres
05-01-2002, 02:59 PM
Oh well, I live all the way in Pennsylvania, so I dont feel like flying acros the country to pay 250 bucks to spend a couple of hours waiting in line to play an unfinished game for a couple minutes...I'd rather wait.

Unreal Championship - looks like a great FPS game.

Shannon, the E3 event is held at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, and will be showing on May 22-24. Just stay online my friend, because when this event hits, you're gonna see A TON of coverage. Besides the launch of a new console, I think E3 is one of the videogame phenomenon's I look forward to the most.

Here's a question: who do you think is gonna have a lackluster showing this year? I mean, we know Nintendo is gonna be pretty good, considering their future lineup. And, obviously MS and Sony are gonna put their good game on. But what about the developers? Who thinks Midway will do well? Activision? EA?

Here's my take on the 3rd aprties companies you just meantioned.
Midway sucks! All they have to offer is MK: Deadly Alliance and im not looking forward to that milked out series one bit.

EA? EA WHO? If you ask me it's all about Sega Sports and their all new 2K3 line-up. Starting with the Xbox eXclusive WSB 2K3!! All EA will continue to do is port over PS2 sports titles that already suck in da first place. EA only sell because of their hype and deep pockets to flood TV ads.

Activision has alot to offer. One of the few 3rd party companies I respect. Though I bought Spider-Man on my Xbox and feel it is kinda weak, but I neeed to put in more time with it.
I can tell you one thing about ol' Spidey, those controls stink!:(

I wanna see Namco's presentation of SC2!
Konami's rumored to death MGSX
and Sega's whole entire Xbox line-up!
Oooooooooooohhh yeah!

I'm really excited to see all of the new-look sports titles. Even so I'll probably stray away from EA titles for now, I'm very interested to see the competition heating up between MS and Sega. Considering that my primary (sports) gaming interests are Basketball and Football, this should be one heckuva show!

Also, I don't know just yet, but I MAY be going... VERY tentative tho...

Either way- To those who are confirmed, have A BLAST! And to everyone else, cross those fingers and light those candles for GTA3 and MGSX!!!

Durden, I hope you can make the show. It's gonna be a blast. Ninja, I agree with the developers. I've actually been in touch a little bit with the VP of marketing for Midway, and am planning to meet with her at the show. I really want to see if they know the pulse of the core gaming community and what that community thinks of their company. I mean, I agree, besides MK, they really don't have that good of a name. And, there are a good number of people who don't even like MK. They need to branch out a little, you know, pull a little of the aggressiveness shown by Rockstar. Speaking of Rockstar, here's to hoping they announce some good stuff for the ol' Box.

Well im one of them Stiffy. After MK II the series went down da toilet with my Ninja droppings!:o
For real true fighting peep out Soul Calibur 2 at the show if your going.
As far as Midway as a company they are suffering major loses!
You know they totally pulled out of the arcade business?
Now all they have to depend on are lack luster home console games.
If MK:DA is a flop this company will sell themselfs to someone else.
I bet you yo!

And as for Rockstar,.. yaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwn. The are not a proven company. As far as im concerned they are a one hit wonder with GTA3.
I bought Max Lame and it was a over hyped sorry ass game.
Other than the matrix rip off slow mo gun fights the game was total crap for it's confusing ass story line to the worse cut scense ever with that comic book cheap mess!

Heh heh, you're on Ninja! I must say I disagree with Rockstar. I think this company just may have some good things coming. I mean, they rocked the video game world with a risky game like GTA3. It'll be interesting to see if they are only capable of creating violent games for the sake of violence, or if they're gonna branch a little. Now, as far as Max Payne, I agree, by the time it came out on the Box it wasn't all that...but when it first came out on the PC it created a whole new way to fight the baddies. It also didn't help them to have Obi-Wan come out on the Box before Payne (which featured the same slow motion play). By the way...Obi-Wan, what did you think of it? My feeling was it had some good moments, blanketed by really bad moments. Choppy framerates, horrible graphics REALLY horrible voice acting. Also, what do you think of Acclaim's latest Turok? Gonna be good? IMHO, I thought the first game rocked....because you fought dinosaurs and people. I couldn't stand it when the whole alien thing came into the story. Boring, overdone, and lame. Other developers....Infogrames, Psygnosis, Lionhead Studios (or is it a different name now?).

I know...that game has been tickling my brain ever since the original screen shots were shown. Also, here's another question, semi-unrelated. Has anyone been to E3 before? If so, do you get a TON of free stuff i.e. brochures, t-shirts, toys, etc.? I was planning on bringing a backpack for this reason. I work at a design firm, and whenever we go to Paper/print promotional shows, I come home with about 40 lbs. of crap. So, if this is the same case, I wanna be prepared!

"DOOM III will change what people expect to see and experience in a PC game," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "We couldn't be more psyched about DOOM III, and are thrilled to debut the title at E3 with Activision. Get ready to be terrified."

Guess that answers my question.

D@mn Stiffy, you got alot for me to cover...okay, lets get dis joint started!
Alright, atleast we agree on Max Lame aka Max Painful 2 Play.:D
Obi Won? more like Obi WHO? That game had potential, but failed miserably in all factors of a game.

Acclaim? I never played the Turok titles on N64, but I hope it's as good as you say cause they have nothing else to offer the gaming public!
All Acclaim is good for is busy the rightsto Sega's old ass DC titles and trying to make an easy buck by porting them to that sorry PoS2 console:rolleyes:
As far as Infogrames I have nothing against them other than that super weak Dreamcast game titled SlaveZero. That game had hype and all behind it. But they had better do the DBZ license proudly.
Psygnosis is M.I.A other than the WipeOut titles.
Does that cover it all?
