E3: The Largest Ever
Wednesday, May 1, 16:31 | Talon |
Each year the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) becomes larger with more developers, publishers and visitors. This year the “more” theme is taken to a whole new level with the announcement that over 1,000 never-before-seen games will be shown off. Furthermore, in a survey released by the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) it was revealed that three-quarters of all products shown by 80 percent of the 400 exhibitors will be in stores before the end of the year.
More interesting was that the survey continued to say that 49 percent of new and upcoming videogames scheduled for showing at E3 support videogame consoles. These numbers break down to 39 percent of new titles being on PC, 17.5 percent for handheld consoles, 7.8 percent of the games are online only and 3.4 percent are for cell phones or PDAs.

The survey went on to state that games at the convention have been broken down into categories, each with their own percentages. Action games represent the largest chunk with 28.4 percent. Sports/driving follows action with 16.7 percent, adventure games take 12.1 percent, children games 10.9 percent, RPGs 8.3 percent, strategy 7.3 percent, educational games 6 percent and simulation games take up a surprisingly low number at 3.2 percent.

Everything was wrapped up by the announcement that all unreleased games will be shown in a special feature program called “First Looks”.

Interplay Steps Up
Wednesday, May 1, 15:27 | Talon |
Capcom, Sega, Interplay; the E3 line-up announcements continue. Just a few hours ago Interplay unveiled their E3 line-up scheduled for showing at the convention.

Hunter: The Reckoning (Xbox): Set in the World of Darkness, Hunter: The Reckoning is a third-person action game where players can assume the role of one of four hunters: Deuce (a biker), Father Cortez (a prison chaplain), Samantha (an ex-cop) and Kassandra (a raver). Developed by High Voltage Software, Hunter: The Reckoning is based around the popular series from White Wolf publishing.

Run Like Hell (PlayStation 2): Run Like Hell, Interplay's upcoming action/survival horror game, has been put through more delays than most games in recent years. Plot specifics are still sketchy at best, but it’s said that the goal of the game is to destroy a hoard of aliens infesting a space station called Forsetti and to escape with the main characters loved ones. Run Like Hell features the voices of Michael Ironside, Kate Mulgrew and Lance Henriksen.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance (Xbox): Originally released on PC, then PlayStation 2, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for Xbox adopts the most popular Dungeons & Dragons setting: The Forgotten Realms. As the third adaptation of the D&D rules, players gain the ability to fully customize characters and watch character development unfold.

Icewind Dale II (PC): Icewind Dale II is the second game in Black Isle Studios critically acclaimed Icewind Dale series. Making use of the recently acquired Third Edition Dungeons & Dragons license from Wizards of the Coast, Icewind Dale II features new monsters, environments to explore and magic spells.

Galleon: Island of Mystery (Xbox): Galleon: Island of Mystery is the newest action/adventure game from the creator and designer of the original Tomb Raider game. Assuming the role of Rhama Sabrier, captain of a ship called the Endeavor, players travel across six islands in search of adventure.
Interplay also stated that a yet-to-be announced RPG would be unveiled at the convention. Stay with us for more news.
