New POW Details
Wednesday, May 1, 17:23 | Talon |
Codemasters and Wide Games released new details on their upcoming Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC game Prisoner of War. According to information released today, Prisoner of War stars one Captain Lewis Stone who’s taken prisoner in a POW camp after his surveillance aircraft was shot down. Stone soon encounters a group of prisoners who inform him of a secret weapon being developed in the camp for use against the Allies. It’s at this point the game begins.
During the course of the game players must sabotage equipment, steal uniforms from German guards, escape Stlag Luft, call in the Allied Forces and battle General Stahl. The game also lets players fight alongside other prisoners and gain their assistance (for a price), interact with over 32 characters and visit multiple POW camps including a digital recreation of the infamous Colditz Castle.

Prisoner of War ships on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC this summer.

About the game:Whilst on a top secret reconnaissance mission for Allied intelligence flying high above northern Germany Captain Stone and his co-pilot Lieutenant James Daly are hit by anti-aircraft fire. Bailing out just in time, Stone parachutes straight into the hands of armed German soldiers. Out numbered and out gunned, Stone is forced to surrender himself to captivity in a POW camp.
On arrival Stone is introduced to life as a prisoner in Germany as well as a variety of interesting characters from around the world. Soon he is reunited with his co-pilot Daly and the pair devise a cunning escape plan involving the theft of German tools from the German's own living quarters.
On the night of the escape disaster ensues, Daly is shot dead and Stone is re-captured and placed in an even higher security camp. Seeking immediate escape and revenge for his fallen comrade Stone contacts the escape committee, a secret group of high ranking POW's who represent Stone's only hope for freedom. First he has to earn their trust and use his legendary reconnaissance and surveillance techniques to retrieve important information for the Allied war effort.
When Stone stumbles across the Germans plans for a weapon of mass destruction, he makes it his duty to inform the Allies and destroy it at all costs; the outcome of the war rests in his hands.
Stone's adventure will take him across Germany in a variety of different POW camps, using his ingenuity and stealth tactics to outwit the German war machine, crawling through muddy tunnels and over stone walls, using disguises and make shift equipment to escape and to prevent the destruction of Allied cities around the world.

"AI"Prisoner of War demonstrates some brand new developments in gaming artificial intelligence. Each POW character in Prisoner of War has his own unique personality and voice. We are certain that the characters in Prisoner of War move around and behave more realistically than in any other game, they will chat with each other whilst they walk to breakfast, run to roll call if they're late, have an argument over lunch and go to bed if they're tired.
You will be able to interact with them in a number of different ways, some POW's might try to sell you some useful tools or items in exchange for cigarettes or chocolate, others might offer you useful information about the camp and its guards, some may follow orders that you give to them others may not. And some may just want to play cards! Getting to know each of your fellow inmates will be extremely useful, just make sure that they're all on your side.
The guards in Prisoner of War are equally as smart, they can follow footprints in the snow, listen out and investigate any strange noises they might hear, and arrest you if they even think you're doing something suspicious, to under estimate them could have serious consequences, remember each of them is armed.

Sound: Prisoner of War's music system is a revolution in gaming audio. The soundtrack will dynamically change depending on what you do in the game, the time of day, and the characters you interact with
It will create a movie style musical score for each mission you undertake, building tension when you're sneaking around a camp, or expressing the action of a chase. The system seamlessly blends the changes in music resulting in your own personal soundtrack to the game.
The combination of state of the art interactive music technology and expert composition with a cinematic feel has resulted in a constantly evolving, deeply absorbing score worthy of the greatest masterpieces of cinema. Moments of tension are heightened by edgy strings and sinister chords, and surviving a close shave is rewarded by a lightening of the mood.
Elements of the score can even inform you of potential dangers before they happen, or guide you towards help. The daily routine is also reflected by changes in the music, providing further warnings of time running out, or opportunities arising. In fact, as the game progresses you’ll be able to detect many aspects of your location, the time of day, and friends or foes around you, from the music alone!
