Sales figures for Xbox are released
WEEKLY sales of Xbox soared to 12,681 after the price drop - nearly 40 per cent higher than launch week.
Disappointing sales in the first month forced Microsoft to drop the price of Xbox from $649 to $399. The new price took effect last Friday and retailers reported extremely strong sales at the weekend.
Independent sales figures back this up. Inform research director Phil Burnham said sales of Xbox reached 12,681 last week, compared with 9124 in the launch week.
Sales were well up on recent weeks.
Retailers sold just 912 Xbox consoles the previous week, but Mr Burnham noted that sales were down because the impending price cut had been announced halfway through that week.
The previous two weeks' sales were 1472 and 1551 respectively.
Last week Xbox outsold Sony's PlayStation 2 for the first time in weeks.
Mr Burnham said sales of PS2 had dipped slightly to 3779 for the week, which reflected the fact that the special offer for a $30 entertainment pack was nearing its end.
Xbox had an extremely strong week for sales of games. Mr Burnham said retailers sold 14000 Xbox games, mainly because people bought at least one game when buying a console.
The top-five games this week were Halo and Project Gotham Racing (both Xbox games), Grand Theft Auto 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2 games), followed by Dead or Alive 3 (Xbox).
Good News,Eh!!!!
