Hi there!
Yesterday, my DVD player just stop working. So I bought a DVD kit for my xbox. In all my 12
DVD, only 1 seems to be playable. All the others just leave a black screen. Any of you have an
idea about waths wrong?

dude read ur dvd playback kit instruction booklet, make sure that your dvd's have that dvd symbol and saying something about ntsc on the box or dvd itself too... just read the manual it is all in there. If that does not solve ur problem go to xbox.com and go to the support chat and u can ask them where u should send it for a refund or something. They are very helpful there and i am sure you will get your question answered their much quicker, make sure u have ur reciept for your playback kit as well :D

Thanks for all your advice (booklet, zone, and so on...) but well, I already try this. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here to ask for advice. But thank you anyway.

It's not the DVD kit that is the problem, it is more like that it is a bad optical kit. Since I can use one DVD in my DVD player, and the same one straight away, and up comes the "dirty disc" error. Perhaps for some stupid reason, it doesn't like the way PAL DVD's are usually dual coded for Zone 2 and 4. (only found that one out on my PC when it kept asking me to chose which zone of the two to chose from, plus we get the copyright warnings for Ireland, UK, Norway, etc on many discs)

Are your DVD's scratched in any way??????? That also might be the problem. Have you exchanged the DVD playback kit for a new one ?????? Try that one out. If the problem still persits then you should call the XBOX helpline and describe your problem. They might ask you to send your machine for a free check up !!!!!! Goodluck

One of the ones that doesn't work on my XBOX is one that is about a week old, and only played once on my DVD player. I looked at the surface of the disc, no problems there. Does it not like the gold colour that the Rocky Special Edition DVD is. Living here in Australia, we get multizoned discs by default, usually Zone 2/4 together, since they are both PAL.
I checked with another more scratched DVD, which should be Zone 2, either that or it isn't zoned (U2 Elevation DVD single). So, it's not like it can't read scratched DVD's, just that it won't read that one.

I have found the "problem/shortfall" of the XBOX playback, it has scan lines that run across the screen, I think it is forced to use hardware BOB when drawing the screen. Noticed on the Episode 1 Special features DVD, when watching Duel of the Fates - the sheet music didn't look that great when shown on screen.

i had a problem just like that... it said my disc was dirty or something... so i just left it alone and tried it the next day and it worked... i have no idea why.. try new batteries in the remote or moving the reciever to a different controller port.. i think ur best bet would be to take it back to the store and tell them you think there is somethign wrong with it because it does not work properly they may give u an exchange or tell u were to send it.

I don't know if this will help you, but the XMEN DVD just won't play on my Pioneer DVD player. In fact, after I put it in no other DVD will work until I power it down and bring it back up.

The same DVD works just fine on my Panasonic DVD players.

Go figure.

Every DVD I play, the screen goes from light to dark, then it gets all colorful for a couple seconds....sort of like scrambled porn channels. :D

Any ideas?

that's macroprotection, you can't watch DVDs if it is hooked up through your VCR, it has to be hooked up directly to your TV

I see my common problem so far, all the discs I have problems with are all gold. Is this a known problem with the XBOX?

i dunno if the gold thing has anything to do with it... but that may be it.
