SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- May 8, 2002 -- Indiana Jones is back and better than ever! From the crocodile-infested waters in Ceylon to the bustling streets of Hong Kong, perennial action hero Indiana Jones' wits, agility, whip lashing and hand-to-hand combat skills will be put to the test as never before in Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb from LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC. The exhilarating third person action-adventure is expected to release fall 2002 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC. The game is being developed in collaboration with The Collective, Inc.

Indy's latest adventure plays out in dramatic fashion thanks to new gameplay features such as brawling combat. This time, in addition to using his trademark whip and pistol, Indy can engage in fierce hand-to-hand combat against foes, many of whom are well-versed in martial arts. Improvised weapons such as shovels, chairs and table legs also can be used to fend off adversaries. The result is a more immersive and more Indy-like gameplay experience, set amidst spine-tingling movie-like action sequences, such as a rickshaw chase in Hong Kong and a spectacular battle atop moving gondolas in the South China Sea area.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb features The Collective's proprietary 3D engine that supports completely immersive, highly interactive environments. The game will offer 10 levels, all set in unique locales such as a 15th century castle that looms over Prague, an underwater palace in Istanbul, and a mountaintop fortress in China. A sophisticated camera tracking system makes sure that the player always has an optimal view of the third-person action. "Indiana Jones is back in a bold new way that players have never seen him," says Tom Byron, director of product marketing for LucasArts. "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb faithfully recreates all the heroism, action and edge-of-the-seat adventure of the blockbuster film series thanks to a state-of-the-art game engine, a rich story, and compelling gameplay."

Indy's whirlwind adventure, set in the Far East in 1935, plunges him into an international crisis of terrifying magnitude. As the game begins, a powerful underground Asian society, the Black Dragon Triad, and a German mercenary, Albrecht Von Beck, have formed an unholy alliance in the hopes of acquiring the Heart of the Dragon, a black pearl that gives its possessor the power to mold minds. Rumored to be buried in the crypt of China's first emperor, it has been safely hidden for more than two thousand years. Now, with this unwelcome coalition in desperate pursuit of one of the most powerful artifacts known to man, it's up to Indy to prevent the Heart of the Dragon from falling into the wrong hands. Indy enters the race for the Heart at the behest of Marshal K'ai, an Asian businessman who asks him to retrieve the pearl and return it to the government of China. But in order to retrieve the Heart, Indy must first traverse the world to find and assemble the three scattered pieces of the Dragon Seal, the key to unlocking the crypt. Jones is aided in his search by K'ai's stunningly beautiful assistant, Mei Ying, who helps him throughout this epic conflict.

Now if the XBOX gets to reach it's full potential and not be watered down due to multi-platform we could have a winner. This one will be interesting to see at E3 up and running..........potential is there, I hope it reachs it.

Wow, when I first saw the thread in the forum, I was thinking that this may not be a very good game...but, by the looks and sound of it, it's extremely impressive! Wow!

Nice post! :)

I hope those are screens from the PS2 version, because they don't quite look like Xbox caliber to me. I have a feeling this game and Buffy will play similarly. Both are developed by Collective and both have hand-to-hand combat.

Well keep your fingers crossed for "OPTIMIZATION" on this game........and things will get much better. That's the last thing most of the time devs add to the game right at the end of the dev cycle. More polys, more refined textures etc, etc...

Looks very cool. I just hope developers start using the Xbox like it is supposed to be used. USE THE HARDWARE AA FOR GOODNESS SAKE. The Xbox has more than enough power to eradicate ALL jaggies in every game we have so far few developers are using it. Crappy, lazy programming on their part.

they are probably just taking the buffy engine and changing some settings and characters.....bet this game has a small budget and is going to turn out to be crap. But I hold my hopes up high!

Now this just totally ruins my day... it also makes me wish I could take back my eXcite score!

I was HIGHLY anticipating this game because I grew up playing the first two Indy games that Lucasarts released (Last Crusade and Fate Of Atlantis.) Then they released Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and the game was a total flop. Fans of the old games hated the fact that they had turned Indy into a 3D platform jumper ala Tomb Raider. I was really hoping they'd return to old form with this title, but it looks like they're sticking with the Infernal Machine formula. They've also sold out and made this game like 90% of everything else out there by setting it in China. When will this China/Japan/Anime craze die out??? I never liked it to begin with...

I'm gonna have to go see what the Scumm Bar people have to say about this now... I haven't been to that website in forever! Thanks for the great post, Virtuoso. You've saved me months of anticipation that would have ended in nothing but disappointment. And no, I'm not being sarcastic... I really am glad this thread was posted now instead of later.

**scratches one more game off of "wanted" list.**

Interesting, could be a lot of fun. It also could be a PS2ewey-looking Tomb Raider clone. I'll be watching out for this one, I liked the concept art. Good read.

Indiana Jones on Xbox looks good. Can't wait to try it out. Anyone know when it's suppose to hit the shelves. Some of those picutures look amazing. Cya

I'll have to second this... it looks just like **yawn** Tomb Raider. The graphics certainly look "PS2ewey" as well (tanx for the new word, mil! :D)

C'mon... they're developing for Xbox!!! What's with the skinned textures on the characters? What's with the flat clouds that you can actually see SQUARES in? I thought those went out with PSX. If they're only making the game 10 stinking levels long, they can at least make the levels look as good as possible.

If noone's noticed, I've shed my tears of disappointment over this game and have moved on to being ticked off. Just imagine what an Indy RPG or adventure game could have been like... shooters are nothing but a copout.

Yes Mil will teach you all kinds of new words.........not all good but real interesting none the less...........;) :)

I feel what you are saying totally Master Gracey..........But still hope that they can pull off something more than what is being shown with these early static shots............hopefully the game will not be watered down due to being multi-platform and we will get the full XBOX treatment. But we shall see soon enough.:)

Yes a little RPG act/adv sounds nice............;) :D

Indiana Jones and the main character from Pitfall look exactly the same. I hope they never make another pitfall game!

I actually hope they make another... it'd be kinda kitsch! Take me back to 1982 when I was 5, just got my Atari and Pitfall was only a couple months old. :D

As for the Indiana Jones thing, Pitfall Harry adopted that look over time. In the first game he had dark green pants, a light green shirt and no hat. He looked the same in the second game, which was released in either 1985 or 1986 (I'm too lazy to dig it up and check right now.) It wasn't until Pitfall Mayan Adventure came out for SNES that he had the fedora and brown leather jacket. That game came out sometime in the mid-'90s.

I found a little something for anyone who wants to relive a fond moment from the past. Play the original Pitfall online! :D

You're absolutely correct. And I doubt they'll change it when it gets ported to the XBOX.

Too bad for us. They might as well not even waste their time, as far as I'm concerned.
