You can expect the game to play similar to the famous Metal Gear Solid series. The focus of Duality will be mainly on action, with leveling abilities, and some other typical RPG elements are said to also make their way into the game. A technique used brilliantly by the PC world has been freedom, and freedom of quest. Duality will hope to take advantage of this technique by allowing you to choose the quest which your character will undertake, and when he will undertake it. The control scheme for the real world play, (in Duality you can venture into the cyber world as the “virtual being”) will be much like the Resident Evil control style with auto-aiming coming into play for the mercenary. While details are virtually nonexistent for the cyber world, it's understood that Duality will feature (or the devs at least plan to implement) a multiplayer deathmatch into the game. The AI in the game will also have a different slant on it, as the enemies will no longer have individual intelligence but rather intel which is more geared to the group of enemies. Meaning that how the group of enemies fares against you is how each individual villain will approach your character.

Duality will feature bump mapping, dynamic shadowing, realistic physical reactions by characters, and very high poly counts. Character models will be intricately detailed.

Through the course of the game your original character will encounter two other characters, both of which you will eventually be able to control. Each character brings their very own variation of play to the game and will in turn do some interesting genre crossing during play.

Wide screen is extra sweet on those extra large HDTV's that is so very true,,,,,,,,,,

It's 3rd person with 1st person options............and here is some more details for you.......... Yes it's the son as is Strident of MGS 1 and 2.............but true next gen MGS2........

.................................................................................................... .
Play 3 characters who look and act in their own ways. Each character is played for the appropriate chapter of the game in the order of Mercenary, Hacker, and Virtual Being. Mercenary is the starting character, because he is played in the most conventional way. (like Metal Gear, Tenchu) Players will get used to the rules and controls of the game with him, then move on to the next characters who require more complicated style of gameplay. Each character’s skills and abilities improve as he/she levels up and various equipments, weapons, programs are acquired.

Each quest has the length of 20-40 minutes. Other than the quests involving the main plot, there are many other quests available just to enjoy the game and/or earn money and experience.

A quest never has a pre-set way to complete. Quests are designed to be played freely according to the user’s play-style and the chracter’s ability, and they all will be entertaining. (If mercenary is played by an action-mania, then he will destroy all the enemies and obstacles getting in his way. If the player wants more brain-stimulating gameplay, he will be sneaking around, avoiding battles, and trapping opponents.)

A futuristic city (New York, maybe?) serves as the backdrop, and it is not just a group of tall buildings. Structures and inhabitants are created as close to reality as possible. In-door spaces (quests) and out-door spaces (travel) are integrated without loading time. There are elements of time and weather.

Even when a stage is visitd twice by different characters, it is played and experienced through a different route (depending on the style and ability) each time.

Multiplay deathmatch is available. Well-balanced player characters will duke it with their own unique selection of equipments and skills. There are plans to make the omnipotent Virtual Being a gamemaster, as in board games.

Game story................

We will try to tell you something about the game story but without revealing the whole plot, since we don't want to spoil the surprise that hides in any new game. You must imagine a city in a future, maybe not very faraway, where companies control the lives of common people and technology is misused for human selfishness and greed. Here the reality is formed by two alternative and parallel sides, the real space and the cyber space, that coexist and are influenced mutually. In this cyber-punk setting, the adventures of our three principal protagonists: a Mercenary, a Hacker and a Virtual Being, develops. All of them have totally different abilities and methods of fighting as also are different the goals that they follow.
The Mercenary is an action figure in strict sense and his goal is earn money to buy better weapons and implants. To do this, he carry out quests for any client, without caring their moral standard or position. Thanks to him we will become a skilfully and secretly cyber implanted as a white collar thief, but lethal and merciless in combat. You will have to plan your incursions in strongly guarded enclosures. Once inside, you will have to complete the mission entrusted, in your own style, using the action or the stealth.
The Hacker has special abilities in cyberspace. She can cross the real world and the cyber space with ease. In the real world she must obtain information to make her incursions in the net safer, though she has to infiltrate and move around with stealth since it is not her natural environment. But once a computer terminal within the enemy facility is reached she is capable of infiltrating into the net, solving enigmas and recovering the most valuable information. But she will have to act carefully: when she is connected to a net-system, her body will remain exposed in the real world, making her vulnerable to an ambush. So she has to place traps and sensors around her. Usually the deeper a terminal is located the more powerful it is, but more physical danger exit.
The Virtual Being is the net himself; an entity born inside its interior (originally he is a scientist whose soul has been transferred to the cyber-space before his body was damaged, remaining there caught. At first, he thinks he is just like any other avatar -a real person's incarnation in the cyberspace- but as the game progresses his true powers are awakened. In spite of the fact that he's a program and he has no physical form, he will be capable of controlling the net and any object of the real world that is connected to it, since he knows all its secrets. He is quite powerful in the virtual world and even he's capable of influencing the real world.

Jordan Weisman, creator of Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, Crimson Skies, is creative director of Microsoft games division. Already we have seen Crimson Skies and Mechwarrior (MechAssault), why would they leave out their biggest franchise Shadowrun?

This is from an old interview with jordan Weisman..... there is no connection at this time with the link below, because to much time has past since the interview, but at least you can see some evidence that the game is coming to the BOX............Interview below..................

Well, we are not making any product announcements yet, but Microsoft is involved with the MechWarrior universe for the long haul so I wouldn't put any limitations on what mediums we will approach. "

""As some of you may know, I was the creator of the core of the Shadowrun universe and drove the first editions development. It has always had a very special place in my heart as I feel that the ideas and potential in the Shadowrun universe represent some of my best work. Thus I can promise you that Shadowrun will not slip silently into the night forever. As for what the product plan is I have to ask for your patience and understanding as we first try to find good people jobs and then after the dust settles start working on a product plan."

INTERVIEW: DUALITY

LINK: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/front_index.php

17:16 It's not everyday that the graphical quality of a game causes our jaws to hit the floor: after-all, saturation point certainly beckons after witnessing the stunning visual quality of Max Payne, gawping at the character models in Return to Castle Wolfenstein and drooling over images of Unreal 2. But what we've seen of Duality so far has us lost for words.
Trilobite Graphics' cyberpunk "adventure-RPG-action" game (the developer's words, not ours) Duality really does look quite incredible, and hopefully will play in an equally incredible way. Inspired by the likes of Blade Runner and William Gibson's groundbreaking Neuromancer novel, the title follows the exploits of three different protagonists as they fight against conglomerate companies that are repressing the human occupants of the city that plays host to the action in the game.

Mixing together adventure, action and RPG - and apparently a little bit of Metal Gear Solid-style gameplay - means that Trilobyte pretty much has all bases covered, and in its hands is a title that is likely to appeal to a broad range of gamers. If it can supply the goods.

Wanting to find out more about its cyberpunk epic, we tracked down the developer's Executive Producer Iñigo Hernáez who found enough time to unplug himself from the matrix to talk about Duality.

A little stealth/action and RPG in a place like this will be just fine with me.............

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/screenshots_library/dir_102/vortal_pic_51448.jpg

Could you tell us about the plot of Duality, the game's setting and the genre it falls into?

Hernáez: Duality is an adventure-RPG-action game. The storyline happens in a city in a future where companies control the lives of common people and technology is misused for human egoism and avarice. Here the reality is formed by two alternative and parallel sides, the real space and the cyber space, that coexist and are influenced mutually. The adventures of our three principal protagonists, a Mercenary, a Hacker and a Virtual Being, take place in this cyberpunk setting. The characters' objectives are different and all of them have totally different modes and fighting capabilities.

In relation with the game's setting, on one hand we have the real world, that is basically a city on where we recreate complex urban settings with a cyberpunk look. Time and weather elements, the architectural way in which city buildings are designed, and other elements contribute to create a dynamic and realistic environment and a sensation of real-world where players can interact with the inhabitants, machineries, etc. This means, that we try to create something more than a simple set of buildings.

And on the other hand, we have the cyberspace, which is a virtual world existing only in the network of computer systems. It can be reached through computer terminals placed on the real world.

Where has inspiration for the game come from?

Hernáez: The influences come from books and movies such as Blade Runner by Ridley Scott and the 1984 novel The Neuromancer by William Gibson, and through more recent popular movies such as Johnny Mnemonic and The Matrix. Also, we could name some role-playing games like Shadowrun or Cyberpunk as inspiration sources.

As you mentioned, Duality will feature three protagonists, Mercenary, Hacker and Virtual Being. Could you tell us about these characters and about the different gameplay styles that they are likely to offer?

Hernáez: MERCENARY His goal: to earn money by carrying out quests for any client (not caring about them or their morality), buy better weapons and implants, and upgrade himself. Play-style is comparable to Metal Gear Solid, but with more possibilities and freedom.

HACKER Her goal: to hack into the most difficult net-system and boost her self-esteem and name value. She must move in the real world with special caution since she is not as good a fighter as the Mercenary. But once she reaches a computer terminal within an enemy facility, she can dominate the situation. She becomes more vulnerable when connected to a net-system so she will have to put traps around her to identify possible dangers coming to her.

VIRTUAL BEING His goal: to look for his own identity as a formless cyber entity, and also find out who's persistently attacking him. He was originally a scientist whose soul is transferred to the cyberspace by accident.

What sort of skills can we expect characters to have, and how will these be used in the game?

Hernáez: MERCENARY He is prepared for the assault and the infiltration.

HACKER The Hacker can cross the real world and the cyberspace with ease and modify the cyber-space at her desire. Her combat abilities in the real world include firearms, but she's not as efficient as those of the Mercenary. The hacking process is represented in forms of puzzles, and the environment, play mechanics, and character form can change from one net-system to another.

VIRTUAL BEING He's a conscious program without any physical appearance who is omnipotent in cyberspace and capable of influencing the real world.

You state that "each character is played for the appropriate chapter of the game in the order of Mercenary, Hacker and Virtual Being". Why did you decide to do this, or rather, what is the significance of this order?

Hernáez: The game will be divided into three parts to be played with each character. Each part will be totally different because characters have very different abilities and objectives, although all the events in each part will occur in the same timeline. This means that the player will live the same timeline three times and through three different points of view.

The order in which we recommend that the characters are played is related to the compression of the game in its total means. Since when all three parts have been played and the game ends, players will see the reality as a whole and understand the meaning of it all.

Does this mean that, once that Hacker's part in the game is over, for example, we won't be seeing them again? If this is the case, doesn't this rather defeat the point of being able to develop the characters in an RPG-style?

Hernáez: The game is continuous, yet it is not linear. The player will begin at the starting point. The main plot is divided into several chapters where each character will be available, but we will be able to interact with other characters who even, sometimes, might fight one against another one.

It sounds as though Duality will adapt to the gamer's playing style. Is this the case, or have you simply offered players the alternative of either going down the action or stealth route?

Hernáez: We just try to establish different ways of playing for different types of players.

Will each character have a number of quests, or is there only one quest per character?

Hernáez: Duality will have different quests to choose from. Some of them are related to the main plot, and some are there to enrich the experience and provide skill or resource to the character. We don't focus on placing a certain quest to every person.

How long are the quests in Duality likely to take?

Hernáez: Each quest has the length of 20-40 minutes approximately.

Duality is an action-RPG. Could you tell us more about the RPG side, for example, how characters will improve their skills and such?

Hernáez: Actually, Duality is an adventure-RPG-action game, in order of importance. Related to the RPG side we will have those quests I already mentioned to gain experience and improve skills. There will be different ways to improve the character's abilities as the game goes on.

Visually, Duality looks stunning. What can you tell us about some of the graphical technology that you're using for the game?

Hernáez: Our graphic engine is oriented towards supporting a rich set of special effects to obtain console-like fast and eye-popping graphics. It features full polygon environment-enhanced, cutting-edge special effects (real-time mesh smooth, bump mapping, inverse kinematics, dynamic shadowing, localized damage, etc.) with between 2,000 and 2,500 polygons per character, but enhanced to look like it has 8000. An advanced animation system brings a greater level of realism to the visual actions of objects and characters.

Have you got any plans to bring the game to any other formats, or is it too graphic-heavy?

Hernáez: It would be difficult to implement it for other formats, but based on the work we have already done, the time of execution would be shorter if we decided to do it at some point.

What else are you particularly excited about with Duality that you haven't mentioned above and that you think will impress gamers?

Hernáez: The player will examine a futuristic urban environment in search of clues that will allow him/her to successfully see each mission through. Also he/she will probe into the Virtual World for information that will open the door towards the deepest confines of corporate networks and infiltrate strategic installations, fooling security measures to reveal the corporation's best-kept secrets. He/she will be able to sneak into the nodes of the Matrix, solving enigmas in cyber-space without alerting the net's countermeasures, and also he/she will be capable of formulating a plan according to the circumstances of his/her character, finding his/her own way through the buildings towards his or her goals. He/she could infiltrate without arousing suspicion and overcome unforeseen obstacles to succeed in his/her mission.
