ACTIVISION BRINGS ID SOFTWARE'S LEGENDARY RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN™ TO THE PLAYSTATION®2 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM AND THE XBOX™ VIDEO GAME SYSTEM

Mesquite, Texas - January 18, 2002 - Axis forces are primed for a Blitzkrieg into the console arena with the development of Return to Castle Wolfenstein™ for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft. Expanding on the same wickedly addictive gameplay that has driven the PC version to ship more than one million units and top sales charts worldwide, Return to Castle Wolfenstein for the next generation game consoles will feature unique design and technical modifications that take full advantage of each platform's advanced technology. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is being developed by Raster Productions and executive produced by id Software, and is currently rated "RP" Rating Pending by the ESRB.

"Return to Castle Wolfenstein has quickly become the most critically acclaimed and widely played action shooter of 2001, and we're thrilled to bring the Wolfenstein experience to a new generation of gamers." Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software said. "We're working with Raster on a number of technical and design modifications that will provide Xbox and PlayStation 2 owners a definitive gaming experience that is designed and built for their systems."

"The QUAKE III Arena engine coupled with the power of these next generation gaming systems creates a remarkable synergy that will serve as the benchmark for future action-shooter games," states Larry Goldberg, executive vice president of Activision Worldwide Studios.

Set against the backdrop of WWII, Return to Castle Wolfenstein plunges players into a maelstrom of action, espionage and covert operations, as an American soldier tasked with infiltrating the heart of Nazi Germany and stopping the darkest plans of the Third Reich. Throughout the game, players are locked in combat with waves of Nazi storm-troopers, undead Teutonic knights and the twisted products of genetic experimentation. Return to Castle Wolfenstein further draws the player into the nightmare with advanced artificial intelligence (AI), photo-realistic character and environment textures, revolutionary effects, and an immersive story that unfolds before the player like a movie.

I don't mind ports from the PC. I doubt it will be much different, if at all, from the original version.

You stated this in the other thread, so I'll state my piece again.

RTCW isn't that good. Sure, the graphics are amazing but that doesn't make a game. Me and about 5 other friends here at my univercity, who all love FPS (I think I have played every one that has come out in the last 5 years or so), have played it. We thought it was cool for the first couple of days, but quickly dropped the game. It lost our interest real quick. Nothing new was added to the genre. We got more innovation and had more fun playing the Day of Defeat mod for Half Life.

I for one won't be buying this game. And I would tell others to spend their money on a different game. This game is NOT better than Halo (heck, one my friends and I even said this while playing. It was kind of funny. We were sitting there playing each other over a LAN connection, and both of us looked at each other and said "Halo," and went to play Halo).

Just thought I would offer a differing opinion.

Unless you are gonna buy this for multiplayer I think it's a renter, I clocked up just over 6hours on the game clock before I completed it on the hardest difficulty...I haven't touched it since.

Untill next time... "back in the day" ?? what day? yesterday this is one of the most played and best selling games of the year. ????????????
anyways.
i'll say it again. for anyone who want's to check out the game that's going to smoke ea's MOH A.A. and Halo ass... well, click on the link in my sig and check out the RTCW website. i imagine there will be extra levels added on (for the XBOX version) as well. the end of the game offers a hint that it WILL be twice as long.
and anyone that says pc to xbox ports arent all that let me remind you that pc games and xbox games are basically the same thing both ar run on Direct X (IE XBOX) and xbox itself is run on a stripped down version of windows 2000. so if a game comes from pc to xbox it will only be better (heh, can't say that about ps2 games, hehe), like max payne for example. it had more levels, better graphics (except the sky, which is understandable since xbox only has 64 mb ram) and is a longer game. plus when xbox releases pc to xbox games in the future there will be mods, and levels to download in which you can ADD levels to the game, because people all over the internet make them at home with there pc's with the pc development tools.
so to EA that hates xbox and says that it's getting it's teeth kicked in, and doesn't want to offer much support for the best gaming console in the world. prepare to be PANZERFAUSTED, and Venom Gunned by RTCW. :)

If anything Halo is 5 times longer than it, not vice versa. Better than MOH: AA? Well I'd have to disagree there as well :) But everybody is different I guess...have you played it on PC yet? If not then I suggest you grab a copy before spending your hard earned cash, but hey, once again that's just me.
