View Full Version : Halo 2?

Yesterday afternoon at a local game shop, the owner, a friend of mine, and myself thought of how cool it would be to get a couple of screens from Halo 2, or possibly just some details on it. We thought of more multi-player levels, the oppoutunity for the banshee during multi-player, and the availability to drive the covenant tank. But then we got the single-player game or co-op game. The possibility of 4 player co-op, a link-2-link TV so each player gets a TV in co-op. But also the possibility to do something like a fight off of covenant at an actual base. Like in the movie Starship Troopers were they held off the bugs from infiltrating the base. Just a swarm of covenant coming at you. But you know in advance, so you can set up a minefield and trip mines. And also the possibility of flying a Pelican or Covenant dropship, possibly even a Pelican to get up and go when the aliens get to close to the 'mystery' base. But the opportunities for another great game are endless, going to a covenant home-world, or a futuristic human world and having to fight them off from conquering this 'futuristic' homeworld.

Does anyone else have any ideas that are strikingly interesting for Halo 2? Or was it just me and the local game shop employee who found Halo 2 interesting, come on reply, you know you want to...

Maybe this could be Microsoft's big announcement, Halo: The Invasion

I was hoping that Bungie could release an application on the web so that we could design our own levels for multiplayer play through our computer and then when finished simply upload them to our Xbox harddrive.

Also, having computer mod's is ESSENTIAL. How many times I have played Halo and only 3 ppl were at my house. It is SOOO much more fun to play team games and we could have played team games if a computer mod player joined. Hope this is definitly a feature in Halo 2.

I'm sure Halo II (This game deserves Roman Numerals) will be mentioned, but I doubt any specifics will be established. Halo still has a lot of life in it and there's no reason to hurry. Plus, they have barely had enough time to start a game that would meet the precedants set by Halo.

Halo 2 is atleast 1-2 years away (remember, first Halo took 2 years to make)

those are some reazlly great ideas i have never thought about!

also, i like the title: Halo II: The Invasion...sounds cool. That woukld be seet if like the covenat was attacking alot of the inner colonies and u had to stop them but there were too many, and they kept getting closer to earth. but then u find out about a top secret unsc project that created new or industructible human soldiers that would put the spartans to shame. they would then be deployed on the covenants attacking and wipe all of them out. the unsc thinks u destroyed the covenat since none have been attacking for a while, but u think there is something fishy about this, so u take a secret trip over to there home world and u find it complety gone, but for one planet. and u land on this planet and there is a new race that has taken over the covenant!

Halo II will be here Christmas.

The time it took to make Halo has no relation to the time it would take to do the sequel.

banshee in multiplayer is not a good idea... the way that people take out vehicles right now is usually with a grenade or rocket launcher... there would be like no chance of killing them. they would have too much of an edge.

While it certainly would be awesome to see some screens of Halo 2, I very much doubt that Bungie will be showing off anything about Halo 2. :(

I mean, it took over 3 years for them to make the original. Halo 2 probably won't be released until 2003 or 2004; I guarantee Bungie wants Halo 2 to be just as captivating as the original.

Bungie might release some information about Halo 2, but I wouldn't expect them to show off any in-game footage. Maybe, just maybe they will show off some early screen shots.

I will repeat: The time it took to make Halo has no relation to the time it would take to do the sequel.

They already have the engine, the physics and the programming. They surely wouldn't redo the game engine since they already made an incredible one to begin with. I could see some tweaking, then just new player models and weapons. This could all be done in under a years time which they probably started last August.

Being the Game of the Year and the #1 seller for the Xbox, I would expect to see the sequel by Christmas 2002.

And I'll say it again: I guarantee Bungie wants Halo 2 to be just as captivating as the original. They probably could release a sequel to Halo by this holiday season, but I know Bungie doesn't want to rush a sequel.

They aren't just going to tweak the game engine, and refine the player models and weapons. They are going to create tons of massive living levels, more characters, weapons, new game elements, and etc. ;)

I think the game should be entitled...Halo 2: Covenant Forces

Rushed? How is 12-18 months rushed?

They are going to create tons of massive living levels, more characters, weapons, new game elements, and etc.

Exactly, and all based on the same game engine which they do not need to start over. Everything you described and want they can do in the time period given before this holiday season.

If this was for the PC then I would say it was rushed because I'm sure they wouldn't take advantage of the new hardware being released on the PC, ie make a new gaming engine. But this is the Xbox. The hardware is written in stone. Nothing is going to change. They can just tweak what they already created for Halo and use some of the Xbox features that they didn't before like more hardware AA and vertex shaders etc.

Guess we shall find out this week anyway. :)

Till I read there might be a H2 this year the game I wanted the most this year was UC. I read this rumor earlier and was so excited to find that it "might" be true. I hope it is I love this game and cant wait for a add-on or a whole new game. This will be good news if its true.

Introduced at Mac World in 1999. 3 years ago.

Plus it had to take them a year to get a stable engine to show it at Mac World.

So it took Halo 4+ years to be finalized.

But, remember how many times they threw out the Halo engine. (I think it was two or three times, so that would make it longer to create.)

But now that they have Halo for the Xbox, and using that engine. They updated it to the new XBox Development Kit, and now it takes less time to create. Since they already have a stable engine.

I would say 1 year or less to come out. (If we are lucky) Christmas 2002 seems a little too close though...
