Microsoft has an Adanced A/V Pack that has an S-Video cable. That will suit you quite nicely :) Well, and a beer, too, of course :D

I can honestly say that I have never tried the cables
that come with the Xbox AV packs. So I personally
could not tell you whether or not they provide great
picture quality or not.

Most people will suggest the Monster cables which
I have used, but I would suggest instead the ones
from RCA. I could not tell a difference between the
Monster and the RCA's, and the RCA's can be bought
for usually less than half the cost of the Monsters.

hmmm ...i think i know what your talking about techie..but wouldnt' i need cables that have a special connection for the xbox? they make those? anyways...since i'm oviously halfway retarded on these things...if any of u have a spare minute...could u post a link? thanx in advance..i wouldn't dare ask this in another forum...but i know how cool my fellow xba's are!;)

What connections do you have DZNUTZ?

This is the order of picture quality reguardless of the tv.

Best: Component (needs HD A/V pack...does not need to be HDTV)
Next: S-Video (needs Advanced A/V pack)
Next: Composite (comes with Xbox, or use with Advanced A/V pack if you want an optical audio connection)

I think you should at least have S-Video on that tv and probably even component.

Hey DZNUTZ,

Sorry for not replying back sooner, I just got home. Lynxfx is
correct. What you need to check is what type of video input
your new tv supports. Then pick up the AV pack that will suit
your needs.

If you like, let us know what the make and model number of
the tv you just bought is and we can look it up and find out
which video inputs it will support.

Then we can steer you in the right direction for the AV pack
that will give you the best video quality for your new tv.

Info ripped from www.xbox.com:

The Xbox Standard AV Cable connects the console to TVs with
audio and composite video input terminals. (Included in the Xbox
Video Game System package.)

http://www.xbox.com/system/xboxstandardavcable.htm?cs_catalog=cat%2dus

The Xbox Advanced AV Pack allows integration between the Xbox
video game system and televisions or receivers that utilize optical
digital audio input for Dolby Digital playback, as well as S-Video
input.

http://www.xbox.com/system/advanced+av+pack.htm?cs_catalog=cat%2dus

The Xbox High Definition AV Pack connects the console to most
TVs with interlaced component video inputs including high
definition ready TVs that support 480i and either 480p, 720p or
1080i component video signals. Look for HDTV support on Xbox
game packages. Movie playback is in 480i only.

This pack also supports digital or surround sound audio receivers.
Sound system with Dolby Digital decoding and a fiber optic cable
required to enable Dolby Digital sound. Sound system with Dolby
Pro Logic decoding required to enable Dolby Surround sound.
(Additional cables and sound systems sold separately.) High
definition ready television required to enable high definition
features.

Each one of these AV packs comes with the cables needed to
hook up your Xbox. But most will agree with me that at some
point you would want to buy a better grade of cable for the
best picture quality.

If you need any other help just let me know, I'll be happy to
help where I can along with others like lynxfx, who is a great
source of info.

hey I am away from my tv at the moment, but I can't remember what type of connections my tv has. Do you have a pic of what the component, s-video, and composite output/inputs look like! That would help alot!

i belive it looks similar to the old mouse posrts (non usb)

kinda roundish with lots of pin holes....it should be by your a/v (yellow, red, white) inputs

The Advanced A/V pack is $20 and it comes with the S-video cable.

Here is a pic of all the connection types and how they would look on the back of your TV or Receiver.
http://www.awake.nl/nederlandsedvdclub/images/s_s_svhs.jpg

The top three that say "Video Out" and "Y, R-y, R-b" are component.
The one that the guy is plugging into is the S-Video connection.
The bottom left are regular old composite. Red, white for stereo sound and yellow for the video.

hey lynxfx...sorry ta bug ya...but ya oviously seem to be one of the wisest xba's when it comes to this kinda stuff. 20 bucks aint much...but is it worth it...is their NOTABLE difference? what types of improvment can i accept.

Going from composite (single yellow) to S-video, especially on a larger tv will have noticable improvement. Going from S-video to Component will still have improvement but not as drastic as from composite to S-video so yeah it is definately worth the $20. Plus now you have the option to go to a digital receiver and get some surround sound. ;)

Hey, DZNUTZ...I don't want to butt in with your conversation with Lynxfx...but, I found a really helpful picture for ya:

http://www.dishking.com/Receivers/Images/6000/S-Video+Y-Pb-PrComposite.jpg

See the S-Video input and then the three Component Video inputs (The Component inputs are Red, Green, and Blue).

If your TV has the "Red, Green, and Blue" plugs on the back, that means you have Component video. If that is the case, then, definately pick up the High Definition A/V Pack.

If you don't have the "Red, Green, and Blue" plugs on the back and you only have the S-Video, then definately go with the Advanced A/V pack.

I am willing to bet my left testi that you have atleast one of those inputs...atleast S-Video ;)

Hope that helps :)
