Well...got a 110" 16x9 screen but I'm not the only one. ;)

I've actually seen alot of XBA members go from their old sets to brand new HDTV sets since I joined here. It has been pretty cool watching their excitement. :)

I play all my games on a tiny 1989 15" Commodore 1084 Video Monitor. hehe 1989 is the date :( lol
but when we are about to watch a dvd we hook the xbox upto the 27" which looks much nicer and the xbox stays hooked up to the 27" for a few days after the movie, or until we get yelled at by our mom

I saw this super sweet 40" Sony Trinitron. Best image quality I've ever seen so far. But That's kind of funny, because for every Sony TV, I've looked at the Toshiba counterpart, and the Toshiba has always had a better image quality. So, if I could find a 40" Toshiba counterpart to the Trinitron, then I'd be in heaven. :D

My actual TV though is a 27" Sears tv. Not great, not bad. It's in the middle-road.

27" Daewoo.. nothing to brag about at all. I've got my eyes set on this baby (http://www.audioreview.com/HDTV-Digital,TVs/Samsung,54,High,Definition,Television,PCL545R/PRD_126322_2727crx.aspx) though.

Not me. Only a 27" Phillips here. Until I get my own place (I live w/ 8 people) It's all that'll really fit in my room.

Don't think I haven't been tempted to go 61", but my TV looks huge when you have to sit 3' away from it.

I got a 36" Toshiba in my game room but everyonce in awhile I sneak home an LCD projecter from work and play on that. We just bought a new one its a NEC 3600 Lumen DLP it covers one whole wall of my garage when its on. Nothing beats a 9ft Tall MasterChief.

You can play consoles on big screens, just be very, very careful with projection screens.
If you're tv isn't a projection screen, then I suggest trying your console out on it!

i have a 60 in mitsubishi rear projection tv. it's had thousands of hours of video games played on it...two years worth of lan parties, ffvii, ix, and x, etc. i was told when i bought it that video games should not exceed 10% of the viewing time...well, that's not happening. it's more like 50%. still, there's been no loss of quality in the picture. i use component video and it all looks great. granted, tis no match for hugh jass but it's still beats a 27 inch (tv, that is)

i think that the salespeople warn against video games because there is a better chance that something could get burned. i try to keep from spending too long in a game that has anything static on the screen like meters or menus. otherwise, i think it's no more stressing to a tv than a television signal.

you really don't know what you are missing until you get dolby digital surround sound max....if you can even muster up a few hundred dollers to get a little cheepy system it will be worth it. I only have a 300 watt system (granted it is a smaller room) but god it is awsome!

surround sound is awesome. especially with movies like scarface and the professional. mmm its so cool. my system is pretty old. i had to turn off the rear speakers cause they hardly ever did anything, and they were getting annoying. whenever i watched a movie with like 2 channel sound, i would always hear this weird sound coming from the rear speakers whenever the people talk, so i turned it off and now its fine. i even tried turning the treble down and that didnt work

Hey Max, I need to update my pictures. I just upgraded all of my speakers. Now I got 1000watts of reference sound and that is just the front 3 speakers. :) The back 3 are another 330watts.

I can't believe the difference between my old speakers and these. Wowser!! Did you know that Dark Summit actually has some of the lowest bass I've heard in a game? I was shocked when it started playing.

Yep, that's my setup alright. You can always spend more money on gear but I think it's equally important to get the acoustics of the room tuned. Did you see the article I wrote about sound isolation vs sound quality? Hey Hugh_Jass,

Very nice article! My living room isn't the best acousticly but I don't want to put up acoustic foam on the walls due to astetics. I do have to live there. ;)

But my mom and now step father just bought a house and we will be building a dedicated home theatre in the basement. It is an unfinished basement so we have a nice blank canvas. I plan on utilizing foam or acoustic panels all around so when the time comes I might be coming to you for some advice. :D

All i see are those 540p/i HDTVs that have 1080i. Those are POS.

They do that so they can rip you off. Your 480i/p signals will be stretched to 540i/p and 720p will either be scaled down to 540p or stretched to 1080i.

Is there a HDTV out there that actually supports the REAL standard HDTV signals 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i in wide screen?!?!!?!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????/

I think it's because the vast majority of people that want to share what they have as a system are excited to share about it. Before I bought my 50" Widescreen HDTV, I was playing on my 36" Toshiba TV with S-Video. Yes, it looked nice, but, I can't compare it with my HDTV. Actually those 540p/i or 525p/i tvs are just the PR people stretching the truth a bit. The tv still is only displaying 480 lines from a 480p/i signal. There is no stretching or scaling being done in either direction. The extra lines they are talking about is actually just a gap in the signal to give the the electronic beem time to reset at the top. There is usually 45 'blank' lines. 480+45=525.

So when you see a set that says 525p or 540p just think of that as regular old 480p.

Most HDTV's will support 480p and 1080i. It is the 720p format that alot of budget HDTV's lack. You just have to look around. There are tons of HDTV's that support all of the standard HDTV formats, 480p, 720p, 1080i. My projector is one of them.

No one is ripping you off. You just get what you pay for.

Xtopia

So will there ever be and HDTV that supports 1080p? That would be killer!

LynxFX
05-29-2002, 12:14 PM
There are scalers available that will give you a 1080p picture. I hear they are killer, although not true. Just better detail and definition. I don't think we will see OTA (over the air) transmissions in 1080p anytime soon. It has been hard enough getting networks to broadcast 1080i and forget about cable providers. A 1080p signal would take up too much bandwidth, which is their excuse now for just 1080i.

Now if they moved forward with HD-DVD then this format could definately be viable still. Again, this looks to be at least 5 years away.

My scaler goes way beyond 1080p but my project is limited to 768p. One day I'll have to get a new projector. Until then, I'm stuck with 768p for XBOX and movies.

So, if I could find a 40" Toshiba counterpart to the Trinitron, then I'd be in heaven. :D

My actual TV though is a 27" Sears tv. Not great, not bad. It's in the middle-road.

I got one of the 40" Trinatrons I love it playin games on S-Video is very nice. Now ill have to do is get $300 for some crazy suirroundound sound.

I only use a 20" Panasonic for my Xbox. However, I prefer having seven TV's in my bedroom.:)

Got a 32" and a 27" , each has it's own xbox. I got tired of moving my first x box between the bedroom (no surround) and the living room (5.1) Now I have 2 (linked of course through the built in network I wired during construction.

PS I never owned a TV till I bought my xbox. I dont watch TV, it bores me terribly.

I've got a decent setup. My screen's not quite as big as LynxFX's, but it's good for the room it's in. I've already posted screens in this related thread:
