Im curious, supposedly Ps2 won last year if memory serves me right. But with Xbox's nice selection and announcement of Xbox Live i dont know.
There was a website that announced the winner.
Anyways if you know who won reply to this.
Nobody needs opinions. If its a matter of opinion then Xbox wins. But we want to know the truth.

i "won" E3
what the hell does "winning" mean?
The most number of E3 awards? the most number of anouncements? the most number of people playing your demo kiosks? the largest showfloor? the most number of employees in the booth? See which exec can run around the E3 building the fastest? ??
I have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm sticking with gamespy's article on who won:
http://www.gamespy.com/e32002/special/consolewars/index.shtml
People complain that about this article stating that it was written only after the first day of E3. But there wasn't really anymore big news the next 2 days.
In terms of presentation, quantity, and quality, the company (Microsoft) created more buzz than the rest - Gamespy.

I totally know what you mean by Who won, First of all E3 is like the Cannes film festival. the Cannes film festival is place where the majority of new movies are shown, and if your movie has good Buzz then you will know it will do well in theatre when it's finally released,
Now E3, is the same in most respects, think of Xbox's press conference as Terminator Vs Alien Vs Predator in Hell fighting Jason Vs freddie with Spider-man as a Jedi fighting the sith Movie , its got alot of hype it showed its a power to be reckoned with, Most buzz at E3 was about Xbox , Hype equals Positive response from devolopers and Publisher's and thus more games for Xbox, .
Sony was more like American Pie finds Dudes Car, it was impressive and will sell tickets but not as many as the previous analogy ,
And Nintendo was like Rug rats 10 Poopy potty pants , it showed it had three games worth mention and a huge fanbase but nothing you haven't seen before (although I always defend eternal darkness)
So basicaly Good Hype about Xbox at E3 means they won the Buzz war , and thats all E3 is about ...buzz....

standing from a completley non fanboyish point of view i felt nintendo was worse....sure we saw some more of zelda (now starring a powerpuff girl apparantly....) and mario sunshine but did they really show anything new???........and i never really paid attention to sony at all (though their conference was complete ****'up)
know looking as an xbox fan i got exactly what i wont sooo i say........
XBOX WIN XBOX WIN.......and so forth:D

Wait just a minute... if there is no real measurement of "winning", then the media can pick anything they want to win!
All the PS2 sites will say, PS2 won. All the Gamecube sites will say gamecube won, and all the Xbox sites will say Xbox won.
AND finally all the news/media stuff will say whichever thing will get them the highest ratings/readers rate. (PS2 or Gamecube will probably "win", while they make an Xbox bashing article to attract more customers, because "it sells to hate microsoft")

id say that microsoft "won" e3. they showed some really awesome games. and the announcement of the details of xbox live really helped them. i dont really think that the announced games for ps2 and gc were as good as the xbox games. i think that microsoft will have a really good summer and stuff:D

triple post, john! D:
anyways, Microsoft created the most buzz with XBLive...
Nintendo created a lot of Buzz with playable Metroid Prime, Zelda and Mario Sunshine...
Sony created... nothing. i would give them worst show of E3... but that awards goes to ... Square
Square had only 2 games. Kingdom Hearts and Japanese version of FFXI. Worst. Show. Ever

except the part at the end when they said Sony was a Tie for "winning" E3 except Xbox has a miniscule advantage with the Xbox Live.
I think they said that to keep the PS2 fans on their site. IMO Sony was the worst, they annouced very few new games, and online sucked.
At least Nintendo has a bunch of playable new games, and so did Xbox.

you're right doug... in a way I felt Sony had a horrible E3 show compared to Nintendo and MS. But Gamespy did have a point when they said Nintendo might as well play a tape of last years 2001 E3. But what really got Nintendo thumpin was the actual playing of the demos I guess. I've heard over and over how brilliant Metroid Prime is. At least Sony had some huge announcements too.

whew... we needed to win... hopefully this means we'll pick up in sales. With this, Xbox Live and the price cut, over the next 6 months I think we will see a huge increase... although Gates probably will be wrong about Gamecube. He said it would be dead in a year... about 6 months to go, and they seem to be tied with us or winning. I dont think any of the 3 consoles will die

Hell yeah. Gamespy said:
"Its SOCOM showing didn't go as smoothly as the company would have liked, but it couldn't have prayed for a better performance than it had with its Madden demo.
In attendance was the Minnesota Viking's Daunte Culpepper matched up against the Tennessee Titan's Jevon Kearse, who was in Florida. Initially there were a few moments of lag, but the game is still early".
The game is still early my ass, stop making excuses. How long have they had Socom now? And Madden, come on now. It's not the games it's the slow ass system. They were probably using broadband too, if it's laggin in the demonstration imagine when dial-up gamers start playing online. It will never work with narrowband that's why Xbox is king.

That's a shame. A Broadband-only game that laggs during the demo. Sony displayed Socom and wished they could they had waited instead of showing how inferior the PS2 is.

I was checkin out what the other systems had during e3 and gamecube had almost nothing and most of the ps2 stuff was crap or something that was being made for all systems. The new zelda ,looks like crap! Now everyone is cell-shadin and doing a bad job of it.XIII looks ok. Jet grind radio started this and now everyone is doing it. Most cell shading looks like crap except for the jet set\grind radio series. Another example is simpsons road rage, eh that looked like crap too.

Project Ego (yet again)
Xbox Live (yet again)
Unreal Championship (yet again)
Morrowind
Yager
etc, etc....why do people keep making these excuses about Nintendo? Both PS2 and Xbox did the same thing at E3.
And unless anyone here's been to E3 to play the best games for each console, this topic is null.
EDIT: And just a note: Both PS2 and GameCube had online games up and running; and will both be available this summer in their homeland...Anybody seen any XboxLive games running?

Simply, Sony and Microsoft just had a bit more to show so they had a bit more surprises than Nintendo; that's all.
ya they had Xbox Live running at E3. I haven't seen any Xbox Live games running, in person, but from what people have been saying, at E3 Xbox Live was lag free whereas Sony had a huuuuge embarrassment when their online system lagged out on the game they were demonstrating.

Ever seen Lucasarts' Outlaws? That used some cel shading, and it came out only about 5 years before Jet Grind Radio, which by the way, looks ugly anyway. And what about Wacky Races? Looney Tunes Space Race? Or how about that old Rosswell game that never came out? Those games were all out before Jet Grind Radio, or were in development before it. Jet Grind Radio simply wasn't the first cel shaded game, and it definitely wasn't the best either.

You can really start to tell who's actually seen footage of Zelda in motion, and who just glanced at a pic or two and shrugged it off...
I don't know about everyone else here, but JSRF is missing:
-Dynamic lighting
-Fully animated atmospheres
-Expression effects on the main character that reflects the environment
-Smoke, explosions, mist, ambient fog, volcanic haze, all cel-shaded
-Huge boss battles
Let me know if there's anything else I'm missing here, and if someone here REALLY thinks JSRF looks better than The Legend of Zelda GCN after seeing the E3 footage of this game, please explain in detail.
Zelda simply is the best implementation of cel-shading to-date (unless you want to count the wildabeest stampede in The Lion King, in that case it's a close second)...;)

yeah, hopefully Xbox follows nintendo's lead and takes a perfectly visualized, mature game and rehashes it for pre-teens. Wow, a cell shaded halo where there are no guns and instead of killing people you 'make them faint'... Im sorry, fox, but this could be the best use of cel-shading *ever* but it still doesn't change the fact that I think this would be a much better game had they gone with a more mature theme.
Shiz_96
05-28-2002, 11:28 AM
Gamecube is for the most part a childrens toy. Nothing's mature about it and thats what you GC guys want, right. You might get a Teen rated game here and there but you really want the kiddie graphics and bright colors not some realistic beast of a machine like xbox giving you games that break barriers and set new standards in visuals and gameplay. Stick with the cube, if you're lucky you might even get Zelda (Jr.), or be able to collect some more coins with Mario before the next E3.

KraftSLU, I ignored the post after this one, but I expected a much less fanboyish remark from you. How is Zelda a "rehash"? Do tell.
re-hash (re-hash'), v.i. 1. to work up (old material) in a new form.Cited directly from Webster's Dictionary; and yes, rehash is an intransitive verb, NOT a noun.
And while we're at it, please don't tell me you have DOA3, Silent Hill 2, Genma Onimusha, [insert EA game here], SpyHunter, THPS2X, THPS3, Blood Omen 2, Crash Bandicoot, UFC Tapout, Halo, and MaxPayne, because that would be hypocritical considering they've all been altered in one way or another on another machine before hitting Xbox.;)
In what ways have The Legend of Zelda GCN been unoriginal? And in what game have these ways changed? None. Yet and still, if Zelda were not cel-shaded (by the opinions posted here), or if Halo 2 was indeed the same game engine and storyline, this would not be a problem. Funny how folks jump ship like that...
And that's just the tip of the iceberg...
Mature theme? Mythical creatures, Religious pieces, folklore, swordplay, orchestrated soundtracks, and extreme attention to detail don't warrant this? If that's the case, I assume you don't like the series at all- since The Legend of Zelda has not veered from this standard since its original release on NES in 1985. Every demon that you defeated in the original Legend of Zelda never bled, just vanished. Nothing has changed since then, and it never will.
You want guns? Get [insert shooter here that are slated for both GCN and Xbox], or Die Hard Vendetta, Metroid Prime, Perfect Dark 0, and Raven Shield. That's every FPS on the market right there, omitting only Halo, Brute Force, Doom III, and Unreal Championship.
Then there's Mafia, Dave Mira XXX or whatever, Conker, Eternal Darkness, and Resident Evil 0-4...
But I guess that isn't enough mature games I'm assuming...apparently you've got 1500 bucks to shell out on more than 20 mature-themed titles...
On that same hypocrite subject, what do you think of Blinx?
Just wondering...;)

I think it would have been great as well to see a very mature Link and have the graphics like at Spaceworld 2000. IMO, it would have been a lot more exciting to see that rather than cel-shading. I'm not saying the way Zelda looks right now is bad; actually, I think it looks a whole lot better now than earlier cel-shaded pics.
It went from this
http://cubemedia.ign.com/media/space2k1/pics/zeldatoon5.jpg
to this
http://www.nintendo.com/media/e3_2k2/images/zeldangc/10.jpg
It looks so much better than what it used to be. Most likely I will buy a Cube along with this game, but I really think Zelda should not have been steered into the cartoon direction. The more sophisticated look at Spaceworld 2000 was more jaw dropping. I now can only look back at Spaceworld 2000 in despair. I feel like I am being forced to like this game in some way. I don't expect this version to be the best Zelda, but I will give it a chance. It was clear when screenshots were first introduced, it turned away a lot of Zelda fans. I don't expect the next version of Zelda to be cel-shaded.
