At E3 2002, we unveiled Objective Force: Commander to the public and gave the audience their first chance to play the game. Dynamic Animation Systems, the game's developer, has passed along some very detailed info about the game and we have brought it directly to you in this first look at the game's story.

The Story
Worldwide industry had been slow to make the conversion from fossil fuel based energy to alternative sources. This led to a long, painful recession as energy prices skyrocketed and production of goods everywhere stumbled in the early decades of the 21st century. The major energy providers in America conglomerated into the Global Energy Council in 2019. Their stranglehold on energy reserves and deep financial pockets created a lobbying force powerful enough to gain them the last remaining exploration rights in North America. Suffering from decades of recession, the US granted GEC the right to field their own paramilitary force strong enough to protect their infrastructure from the growing threat of eco-terrorism since Congress did not want to foot the bill for such an operation.

In 2026 public outrage in America at rising energy prices and political bully tactics by the Global Energy Council culminated in an unexpected election result in which anti-GEC candidates won control of the White House and Congress. Hastily the new government demanded GEC cut gasoline prices by half and immediately distribute to American industries all petroleum stockpiles currently available. The GEC flatly refused, froze all petroleum production in North America and placed their inventories and production facilities under the protection of their own paramilitary force. Thousands of lawsuits were filed, but no immediate action was taken against GEC.

Foreign oil providers suspended shipments of petroleum to America until their safe arrival could be guaranteed after GEC declared it would attack any incoming petroleum cargoes. The US declared a state of emergency and revoked GEC’s right to field a paramilitary force and demanded they stand down. GEC again refused and the United States responded with military strikes against GEC facilities across North America. The strikes caused great damage to refineries, pipelines and other energy infrastructure but were tactical failures. What they encountered were exotic hydrogen-powered robotic weapons that had been developed in secret. Being very fast and having sophisticated ECM systems, they were nearly impossible to destroy with air-to-surface rockets and bombs. The following ground campaign proved to be no more effective and the battle nearly escalated to nuclear warfare. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed.

With America’s refineries and oil reserves under the control of GEC and much of the fuel infrastructure destroyed, petroleum resources were cut off entirely to most of the country. Gasoline supplies were exhausted in weeks and the American economy degenerated rapidly. Recession became desperate depression. Local authorities could only maintain order in the cities, so brutal thuggery ensued on the highways. The United States appealed to the UN for assistance, but foreign powers refused to involve themselves in what they saw as an American internal conflict.

It is now 2036. Ten years have passed since the petrol was cut off. Lawlessness prevails on the highways and peace is tenuous at best in the cities. In that time the sinister nature of GEC has come to light. The GEC was a front for a global crime syndicate, whose objective is bringing down the industrialized West. The situation could explode at any moment, swallowing the world in a war of unprecedented destruction. The army has been secretly developing its own hydrogen-fueled robotic military force. It is an almost certainty that if GEC discovers this project, they will launch a preemptive strike to eliminate this force before it can pose a threat to them. Such an attack could easily escalate to nuclear war.
You are Red. You’re a die-hard Texan and a gearhead by trade. Now you are also a rebel, one of many who have given up on the government resolving the energy crisis and are part of an underground movement seeking to undermine the GEC and bring order back to America. You’re part Road Warrior, part Robin Hood. The rebel movement is just getting started and up till now you’ve been a common thief, sneaking past GEC security, stealing petrol and slithering off into the countryside. Now your life is about to get lot more interesting... and dangerous.

Your first missions will establish you as the well-intentioned rebel fighting against the oppression of the GEC organization. These will be raids against GEC installations using antiquated rebel vehicles against superior robotic weapons, which are collectively know as Onyx systems. Your objectives will be retrieval of petrol supplies and sabotage.

After a couple of successful raids, a mysterious stranger named Carl approaches you. He has heard of your successful raids against GEC and wants you to capture one of their robotic Gorgon tanks intact in exchange for a huge payoff. After a difficult infiltration, you disable the vehicle’s self-destruct protocols and escape with it. You deliver your prize to Carl. Unfortunately while you were able to escape with the Gorgon without it self-destructing, you were unaware of its complex GPS signaling systems. It has sent your location to GEC. You and your rebel cadre are suddenly assaulted by overwhelming force. Your rebel comrades fight bravely but are fatally outnumbered and outgunned. Many of your friends are killed and you and the other survivors are dispersed across the countryside. You are convinced that Carl was a GEC operative and has masterminded this disaster.

Driven by vengeance you resolve to find Carl. You discover that the vehicle is still activated and you are able to locate its GPS signal. You commandeer an Onyx command and control vehicle and proceed to track the Gorgon. As you near the signal, you find yourself swept up in the middle of a big battle. GED forces swarm all around you, converging on the coordinates you are tracking. You extricate yourself from the battle and discover that GEC is attacking some kind of secret weapons factory of unknown origin.

You decide to sneak into this mysterious facility that apparently is home to fellow enemies of GEC. During your attempt to infiltrate you are once again caught up in the battle. GEC drones overwhelm you and an explosion knocks you unconscious. You awaken to find that you have been taken captive and Carl is your captor. Your icy confrontation with him is only just begun when violent explosions rock the building where you are being held. Suddenly the com is flooded with panicked messages of an incoming attack and the building is ordered to evacuate.

You are hauled out of your cell and into a hangar where you see a group of robotic war machines not unlike the GEC Onyx vehicles. You discover that this is the Objective Force, a secret weapon system that the army has developed to turn the tide of the conflict. Now GEC has discovered them and have come to destroy them. Carl orders you released and tells you to take control of one of the command tanks. Carl takes command of a second one. More explosions shake the building and it is obvious that the structure will soon collapse.

The doors to the hangar open and you are thrown into a massive battle. Hundreds of Onyx war machines open fire on your command tank and the others trying to escape the collapsing hangar. Carl orders everyone to retreat and then charges towards the massed enemy force. He implores you leave as quickly as possible, that the Objective Force research must be saved. You realize that Carl has a nuclear device onboard his command tank and he means to sacrifice himself in an attempt to destroy as many of the enemy as he can and give you a chance to escape. You survive the resulting blast wave and escape with the all-important research.

You deliver the research to the army and work is soon underway to rebuild the Objective Force and win the war. However time has run out. GEC begins a nationwide search and destroy offensive aimed to eradicate the Objective Force and the US military has no other card left to play but nuclear retaliation. Without waiting for new equipment to be built, you take what forces are available and go to into battle.

Horrendously outnumbered you hold the line against the initial GEC onslaught. Soon you are reinforced and you begin to turn to the tide of the conflict. After a series of large battles you begin the final assault on the nerve center of GEC. In a final climatic battle, you decimate the Onyx armies, destroy the stronghold and save the world!

Objective Force: Commander is a futuristic military combat game. The emphasis lies in taking command of a vehicle combat team to overcome multiple objectives and save the world. The objective of each mission will be to analyze the mission briefing, select the forces, including customizing your vehicles, that you’ll need to accomplish that mission most efficiently, then plan and execute the mission. The team is composed of a variety of robotic vehicles, each with different capabilities in firepower, mobility, sensing and defense. The player directs these vehicles from his command and control vehicle to meet various mission objectives while facing a host of futuristic enemies and weaponry. Each vehicle can be driven directly by the player, or it can be given behaviors and assigned tasks by the player; this gives the game both action and strategic elements. The missions are designed so that the player must rely on each vehicle’s unique capabilities in order to complete the objectives.
