I just borrowed a ps2 off a mate and i noticed it has no real stand by, a normal vcr etc can be turned on using a remote even if you havent used it for ages, with the ps2 you basically have to turn it off at the console everytime your done with it. Is it the same for the xbox? do you need to flick a switch on the console to turn it off? and can u turn it on with the xbox dvd remote?

-thanks

No you cannot. X-box and PS2 are game consoles. DVD playback is just a perk. Although X-box does have more functionality than PS2, if your looking for that level of convenience, I suggest you pick-up a relatively inexpensive standalone dvd player.

I think MS figured that you wouldn't keep a DVD in the tray so you would have to get up to put a new DVD in there anyway. Once you turn it on you can do pretty much everything...I guess it would of been nice if you would turn youyr Xbox on to listen to, say music off of the HD without getting up, but it was designed as a gaming console like DBXNY said, and it just happens to use DVD discs for games and has a DVD-ROM so there might as well be the option to read normal DVDs

eject isn't that important, but power would be sooooo convenient, half the time i am watching a DVD, i wanna sleep after or at least watch TV, so I am not in the mood to be getting up and turning it off.

Yeah lol if you are gonna eject the disc you are going to have to get up to take it out anyway...maybe we will have a power button on the remote on Xbox 2

I don't have XBox DvD, but I plan on getting it soon. I do wish they had a power button, that would be really cool..

u know what they should have? an eject button that takes the disc out. like say youre done watching a movie, and youre too tired to get up. so you hit the eject button, the drive pops out, and a little robotic hand comes out, takes the disc out, and puts it back in the case for you. wouldnt that be sooooo awesome??:D

yea, but you would have to pay him, and feed him, and give him a place to sleep. but with the robotic hand, you dont have to do anything for it.:D

If you select the Auto Off option your xbox will automatically shut off in 6 hours. So after you watch a dvd just go to sleep and by the time you wake up it will have shut itself off. No need to get up for the lazy or tired people.

I dont believe that...I really dont know what the problem would be, unless you plan to jolt around your Xbox and shake it like some shake and bake chicken

The eject button would be just as useful as the power button. Then you could turn it on, eject the tray and listen to your music. Also I don't see a problem with leaving a disc in the drive. My xbox has always had a disc in the drive since I got it and neither my Xbox or my discs have any problems.

your not suposed to leave the disk in if your like carrying it in a plane or something cuz the disc could get lose and end up in your xbox.

Ok, if you're going to lug it around I can understand not leaving a game in, but if the xbox isn't going anywhere I see no reason not to leave a disk in.
