It looks Great and with the added extra of un-usal controller i think this game will me great the graphics are great and the controller will add to the gameplay!! have a look its great and make sure u check out the controller its well cool!! a bit big but will make the feel of the game better!!!

Sometimes I wonder if there is some sort of unwritten law in video game land which states that all consoles must have at least three giant robots games available for them within a year of the system initially being released. The Dreamcast had Gundam 0079, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangrum, and Slave Zero in short order, the Playstation 2 had GunGriffin Blaze, Run=Dim, and Armored Core 2 among such monster mecha related titles to hit its library early on, and the XBox has Phantom Crash as well as Murakumo headed its way. Now Capcom is clocking in with their own giant robot title for Microsoft’s console called Steel Battalion (Tekki in Japan).


Like any self-respecting developer, Capcom is staying largely tight-lipped on all the nitty-gritty details in regards to the game. We know there’s a little insurrection in the works in the game world of Steel Battalion and it’s up to players to fight off those that would like to take over. Outside of this, the plot is anyone’s guess. However, what players will be required to do should be quite evident: wreck havoc, but it's in a just sort of way, so don't sweat the ethics. You'll be told where there's trouble and you'll need to respond as the missions come at you, allowing you to fight enemy mecha and any other war machine they can throw at you. All the action takes place from an in-****pit viewpoint bringing a sense of "realism" to the game, as opposed to the over the shoulder camera view usually embraced by similar titles.

In terms of gameplay approach, though, Steel Battalion is looking like quite the mecha sim, and yes, I do mean simulation. Up to this point nearly all mecha-based titles to hit console gaming have been arcade-like action affairs with fast, twitchy gameplay. This game looks like it will have a lot more in common with the MechWarrior games on the PC where everything from heat, to balance, to very hands-on weapons control will need to be considered and mastered in order to do well in the game.

Looking at the control this really isn’t too hard to fathom. The unit is absolutely gigantic, with over 40 buttons, 2 joysticks, throttle, and being divided up into three subdivided panels, the controller looks just like something you might find in an actual mecha ****pit. Hopefully there will be some especially good tutorials and training missions in the game to get properly accustomed to this enormous peripheral. It’s just amazing how large the thing looks.


At this point the real hard details on Steel Battalion are sketchy at best. It’s nice to see a developer going for a slightly different vibe with their approach to the world of giant robots. We expect to have a lot of things cleared up regarding this game come E3.

unless I can get 150 bucks or whatever it costs by the time it comes out, ill probably just get it for christmas or soemthing...

but I would love to play this game. I dunno about buying it, and renting it has gone out the window...

I think I would need to buy a giant table...I dont think it would be very comftorable to have the (probably REALLY heavy) controller on your lap for a long game session...

Capcom has stated that another version of Tekki will be released in JAPAN first with ONLINE CAPABILITIES, but this one will not have them. At least they're offering up a future for that controller.... even if it is extremely limited...

It's gonna be 18 pounds from what I've seen on the net.

Looks cool but I'd hate to pay $160 for a mech game that's not online when similar games priced at $50 will be. But hey if it gets good reviews and an overall approval from gamers, I'll still buy it.

If MS was smart they'd make their own mech game compatible with the Tekki controller.

The online version of Tekki is supposed to be out next year. I'm going to buy the first version as soon as it's available. That way I'll be Tekki-Master by the time online goes live.

this game looks very boring. I am a big fan of mechs but I hate simulators, which from the looks of it the gameplay looks strong on simulation and low on action....besides my girl would kill me if I left that controller on our table, and my rots would love to get there teeth on the joysticks!...and honestly I can't imagine paying that much for a game!

I don't think it looks confusing. In fact, with the special controller they can make the interface to the game very clear. Compare this to the obscure button combinations needed to play a fighting game.

I don't think you can compare the xbox contoller to the Steel Battalion controller. It's obvious that this thing is way more complex and probably will be very overwhelming at 1st compared to a standard controller. It looks like something you would normally need an instructor to demonstrate for you 1st. For most people this will be reason enough to forget about this game altogether. That's why I will be waiting to hear reviews from those who fork out the $160 before I even think about it.

Why can't you compare them? They are both controllers. They will both be used for mech games.

You want a Steel Battalion instructor? Hmmm...that would be a fun line of work. I'll only charge $25/hr plus travel, lodging, and meals. Deal? :)
