I just received an email from Microsoft that I was one of
the beta testers that was picked. They asked me to fill
out a quick survey and call an 800 number. After
confirming my address, they said that they would send me
an Unlock disc for the xbox (which would add another menu
selection to the dashboard), some papers to fill out, and
a game (don't know which one). They finally signed me up
for a newsgroup (I am part of a group) and needed to fill
out questioneer forms every week after playing certain
games. I am very excited that Microsoft picked me to be
a beta tester (got my headset and 1-year gaming for
free)! Wish all the luck to the rest of you!

I hope that's not the case. I thought about that. Also just before I read this post, I got an automated phone message on my cell phone (the phone number I left on xbox.com for registration) but I didn't answer my phone because it said it was an unknown number, but I checked my voicemail and only half the message was there because it was automated, I only got about the last 3 seconds of the message. Then I saw this post and started checking my email every other minute in the hopes that it was microsoft calling. LOL.

He said he got the communicator headset and 1 year subscription for free. Didn't everyone in the Official Xbox Live discussion thread think you would still have to pay $50 ? Thats cool if you dont.

I left a post on the xbox.com forum asking that exact same question! No response yet.

Now I'm realy regreting not signing up for that test but I had really crappy dsl at the time. God I hope Rogers doesn't put a bandwidth cap on thier cable net or I'll be so ****ed when Xbox live comes out.

I dont see why people would be excited over beta testing Xbox Live. Sure, it would be great to be one of the first people to play it, but who are you going to play against? I was a beta tester for maps in many online FPS and RTS games and I hated it...more tedious than anything...Also, what games would the beta testers play?

this guy is lying. no one else anywhere on any xbox site has announced that they've been picked. microsoft would've picked many ppl. also, beta testing is supposed to begin in summer.

Hes right. Out of the 8 thousand people on this site and 20 thousand on txb, ud think that one person would have heard something!? The only thread i saw was the exact same as this one, with the exact same person.

And what makes you think that all the possible beta testers are registered at Xboxaddict?
There are tons of people who signed up for Xbox Live beta testing, and I for one, wouldn't be surprised if nobody at xboxaddict was selected. Microsoft never said how many beta testers they were going to select, so you can't make any assumptions.

uhhh... he could have been picked since they have started the XBLive testers process... i got the xbox.com june newsletter and it said deadline ends soon. and if you haven't check outside, Summer has started...

so within the next 2-3 weeks, check your inboxes for your email from microsoft!!!

(they aren't going to email everyone at once... don't want to overload servers)

And i had a chat with a microsoft reprasentative who said that there would be around 10,000 beta testers. y would i expect every xboxaddict member to be a beta tester? i meant someone or a few ppl. no one from xboxaddict, teamxbox, or any other xbox site i have checked says that they are a beta tester yet, and that is well over 10,000 ppl.

i tried to get some info about beta testing from an xbox chat rep, but he knew nothing. he said that the department that handled it was secret. i started whining. then he said that whoever is picked will be picked. it sounded like no one has been picked yet.

This is my fourth Xbox forum I've visited in a row (doing my rounds) and nobody else has mentioned being chosen. I'm highly dubious. If this person would spend more time meeting people in person and less in forums, they wouldn't need to beg for attention like that.

I just signed up for the beta again under a new e-mail address. I really doubt they'd still have signups if they'd already made their selections.

ya! I remember why I didnt sign up before it was because the 4 numbers AFTER your zip code, i figured it out and just signed up for it! I also got my email saying I was selected! I am so pumped!

10,000 beta testers will be picked... i expect atleast 10 will be from XBA.... one of them will be me, of course ;)

No one has been selected for the public Beta, it's just people who want attention... I've been watching the msg boards for several betas now(including Starwars galaxies) and everynow and then you'll get a post abotu someone saying that beta has started or that they have been selected... you'll know when beta starts, when several people that are regular posters are saying that beta is started and that they have been accepted.

here's what the tech support guy told me...which is what they have told me before, so i think this is their response to all questions regarding when selection will start.

Do you need to have your Xbox registered to be selected? If so, how do you register it? I think I threw everything out but the box :( Can I still do it with the serial number?

look at the bottom of the xbox and u will see 3 numbers. The one u need i one of them. I personally dont no the purchase date of my xbox because i recieved it as a xmas gift. Hope that doesnt matter. Check back frequently to make sure the registration is still there. They deleted mine running one of their checks or something so be attentive.

I highly doubt that you need your Xbox registered to be picked for beta testing. Same goes for whether or not your chances of being picked are increased by registering your Xbox. I don't mean this in a bad way, but the less paranoia there is on this subject, the better. I admit I was paranoid at first (check first two pages, and you'll see why), but now I'm preoccupied with other things, namely, Amped, PGR, NFL Fever '02, Inside Drive '02, and on and on ad infinitum.

I really want to get picked to. My problem is that I originally signed up under Xbox.com and registred my Xbox a few months ago. Although I have changed internet providers since then so I set up an new account under my new e-mail address. Now it will not let me register my Xbox under the new account.

It's my luck that I will get picked and MS will send the e-mail to the account that doesn't exist anymore.. Then I'm screwed...:eek:

Well, I came into work this morning and I had an email from Xbox Live. It directed me to a survey and I just filled it out. They said this does not ensure me to be picked, but that they would get back to me. So I guess I'll see.

They sent me an email... BUT....

All it did was tell me to go fill out this survey and that I had been picked for testing and to keep watching my email. I didn't get all of 800 number BS. I think he's lying....

He was...if you note when this thread was started...that was just a hoax to get recognized or something. But I also go the email today too...and filled out the survey, so I think I'm in, but I also think that it's just Phase 1 :(
