Well after looking over diagrams at XBConnect and GameSpy Tunnel, I am simply very confused. Today, I received DSL hardware for my upcoming connection on friday. Up until this point I sorta figured I'd need to buy some extra equipment to play my Xbox online prior to Xbox Live. But now I am not so sure. Okay, here's the situation.

On both sites it's the last diagram I am focusing on the DSL to USB and Xbox to NIC diagram. Okay, so I have my DSL modem and it's connected to a USB port in my computer. The DSL company also sent me a NIC Ethernet card (I guess they might have thought I didn't have a USB port). I haven't put the NIC card in yet. If I put the NIC card in my computer, and then use a "RJ45 Straight Cable" to connect that card to my Xbox, can I go online using either XBConnect or Gamespy Tunnel?

Thanks for any assistance!

If you need more information please tell me.

yes u can use that set up and i would recommend using XbConnect as t is much better IMO . . .

u would of course have to open port 8602 to play and with a netowrk card im not sure how to do that . . .

Actually...no...

It's nice they gave you a NIC with a USB DSL modem (idiots)...

But anyway you can use that NIC and go to Circuit City and get a $5.99 Crossover Cable. It looks like a regular RJ-45 but it does the crossover inside the cable so you dont need a switch or a hub. This is easier and cheaper if you are just looking to connect the Xbox to your PC. Should you not find a Crossover Cable or have some kind of computer store nearby, the MS Xbox System Link cable performs the same functions, and is longer than the cheap Circuit City one...of course everywhere has different lengths, and you should take into consideration how long your cable should be so it isn't running over your floor to your PC like mine is...
