Does anyone know if Xbox Live and Xbconnect/Gamespy are gonna be running the same way? Alright here's what I'm wondering. I have a router w/a firewall that i can't access the port fowarding option on it, therefor not allowing me to play on xbconnect and gamespy.

Does anyone know if Xbox Live is gonna be the same way...where you have to open the same exact ports to play Xbox online? Will you even have to use your computer at the same time w/your Xbox like you do w/Xbconnect and Gamespy? Or will the game's have their own menus and stuff. I have a DSL modem, but I'm gonna be mad if I can't play online because of my stupid router.

just disable the firewall on your router.

You don't even need to own a computer to use XBL. Your Xbox will connect to the proper servers, and you control everything the game does using prompts and such in the game itself. It is like a multiplayer game or something...instead of choosing Single Player or Multiplayer you would choose XBL and then connect to the server and it would have all your info there and you can look for a game and such...all you need to do is think your Xbox is a PC...then just plug an ethernet cable going from the xbox right into the router and you should be fine...

THERE WILL BE NO COMPARISON BETWEEN XBC OR GAMESPY vs. XBL. XBL is going to rock....and XBL is not going to be pc dependent....meaning you should be able to just select XBL right from the dashboard when you start your green machine up, no need to run back in forth to your pc to see if your connected, etc.
Hope this helps....:)

>>>Below is only one way - perhaps the most common way - of connecting an Xbox to an existing broadband internet connection. There are other ways, but frankly I don't have the time to elaborate right now. If you need more information, I suggest you do some research on home LANs, routers, and Internet Connection Sharing.

Assumptions:

You already have a broadband internet connection
Your broadband modem supports an Ethernet (RJ45) connection
You want to share your internet connection with one or more PCs
Hardware required:

Your Xbox (duh)
Your broadband modem (duh #2)
A cable/DSL router, such as the Linksys BEFSR41 (be sure it has enough ports for all devices you want to have sharing the connection)
One Ethernet patch cable for each device (PC or Xbox)
Connection instructions:

Connect your broadband modem to the "WAN" port on your router (see your router's manual for proper terminology)
Connect your Xbox into one of the "LAN" ports
Connect your PC(s) into one of the other "LAN" ports
Follow the router's instructions for configuration. Usually this means setting the router up to properly connect to your ISP's network, arranging port forwarding and firewall services, enabling DHCP for your LAN, etc. Defining these terms is beyond the scope of this FAQ.
That's it! Your Xbox should now be ready to use Xbox Live and, as an added bonus, it should work with the tunneling services (Gamespy et al.) as well.
