Movie action from the king of console shooters should be savoured like fine wine, snuff and gentlemen's magazines: who loves you, honey?

17:11 We do. Eidos has decided, quite rightly, to make the very first showing of the four-player Xbox action in upcoming triple A Free Radical blaster TimeSplitters 2 right here. Obviously.
As you can see from the movies below, this is going to be an essential purchase for Xbox fans, as well as the rest of the console fraternity. While the original PS2 game, which launched alongside the machine in Europe, contained a four-player mode, multiplayer action in TimeSplitters 2 has been spiced up beyond all conceivable recognition with large mounted machine guns, remote controlled weapons, sniper rifles, flamethrowers and far more fudge than good boys deserve. We're hard, you see. In that special way.

Luckily for you, on top of supplying four-way action that's more fun than watching two puppies wrestling in a sack, UK-based Free Radical has slaved, bent double, over the single-player mode since the release of the first game all those moons ago. The first level is such an obvious homage to GoldenEye, the sensational shooter the developer's founders cut their teeth on at Rare, you'll be beyond squealing. Prepare to grunt.

Taking on the TimeSplitters for the second time, you'll have more than your fair share of action in the sequel. The beasties are intent on tending the very fabric of time asunder: you have to stop them. Little is known of the plot at the moment, but expect it to round off some splendid multiplayer action in a similar manner to a cherry on a particularly sweet cake.

In addition, the much-loved multiplayer map creator has been upgraded to let you design single-player stages. Think about it. Set guards, doors, traps, objectives, entrances and exits, save them on a memory card, take them round to your mate's house and challenge him to complete your level. Genius.

PS2 owners will get online play later this year, but Xbox fans get, well, what you see in the video below. Perfectly smooth, completely weapon-laced, beautiful-looking, four-way combat. And that, as the actress said to the bishop, is that.
