I had a few questions about Xbox live.

1) Like is there gonna be any other way to communicate with the people you are playing with other than talking to them over the communicator?

2) Will you be able to us a keyboard or anything to write to people?

3) WIll you only be able to just hear voices on this communicator or sounds from the game as well? I know there will be idiots who just talk all day or are being ignorant just to be ignorant. Plus I dont know if i wanna hear someone complaining about dying and how unfair it is, and I must be cheating cuz Im the shiznit!

Using the communicator will make the game so much more strategic. Think about playing Halo online and being able to tell someone on another box where you just died and which direction he is going. Setting up ambushes would be ridiculous.

hopfully not, the Xbox doesnt need a keyboard and mouse, besides voice communication is like 100x better and faster . . .

you will be able to mute out anyone you want to. so don't worry about the whiners.

also, NO KEYBOARDS! Why a keyboard if you can talk? MS wants to keep the image of a pc as far from the xbox as possible, so dont' count on keyboard, mouse or anything like that.

I would have thought a keyboard would be a welcomed addition to X-Box Live. I mean you might not be able to use the Communicator due to physical disabilities. MS should consider the people who can not use the communicator and provide them with a small keyboard to be able to chat during pauses and the such.

Anyways I got a few question myself about the communicator:

1) Distance. I guess the distance between player will not be taken into account in the Communicator and all voices/speech will be heard immediately and as clearly as it was said ny the speaker. I just need confirmation.

2) Will there be "Individual Selection" ability so you can communicate with certain individuals (or buddies) that are currently ingame privately? I mean that would be great is you can speak to like a close friend and talk about a game without everybody else (your team mates included) listening.

3) Are there plans for "better" versions of the Communicator for X-Box Live? I would certainly love the ability to "Open Taunt" where what you say will be in the game relative to the environment you're in and the distance you are from the other player. So you will have to shout to be heard and what you say will be heard from the TV and not the Communicator. So if you whisper the people closest to you will here and if you shout (not very loudly but loudly enough) the people on the other side of a field will here you.

4) Will there be areas (Game Lobbies) where you can use the Communicator to chat with other? A open lobby should certainly use keyboard although I would enjoy speaking (like PMs) to individuals privately.

One question for the X-Box Live feature (again about the "Game Lobbies")

What will it actually be? Will Microsoft be the only one or the Developers will have their own servers with different features?

** If you think in terms of a game like HALO or Unreal CHampionship, they have like waky talkies or some kinda communicator attatched to their head. So you should be able to talk clearly and have them hear

2) Will there be "Individual Selection" ability so you can communicate with certain individuals (or buddies) that are currently ingame privately? I mean that would be great is you can speak to like a close friend and talk about a game without everybody else (your team mates included) listening.

**I have no freaking clue!

** this just seems kinda far fetched. I mean it would be cool but come on. That would be so complicated, whisper in a 5ft voice or 10 ft voice. The walky-talky/communicator thing makes more sense. Esp if its a fighting game if you've got a gun and gear and grenades you should have some sort of communication gear as well.

4) Will there be areas (Game Lobbies) where you can use the Communicator to chat with other? A open lobby should certainly use keyboard although I would enjoy speaking (like PMs) to individuals privately.

** Im not sure about this either but...... the whole voice thing might get a little old really fast. 16 people in one room. all talking at the same time. That ***** would suck and kinda **** me off after a while( not very likely that 16 people would all have the communicator in one room though, but possible.)

** Microsoft is the only one who will be taking care of the servers. Thats why you pay the monthly fee or $50 starter fee to them and not an individual developers. (This may be a big problem with PS2 and them going online i they charge!)

I guess the cable runs into the Cable modem to give you internet access and then you can run a cat 5 cable to a switch/router/hub and then run as many cat-5 ables as you need for the Xbox and however many computers you have. There wil be no need to use your computer to play b/c Xbox Live is gonna be plug and play!

You can keep the computer in the office or you can bring the Xbox in there. its all up to you. I mean you will nee a switch/router for sure. When the cable modem is hooked up run the cat-5 cable from the Cable modem to the switch. Make sure to get a switch with lie 5 ports in the back. No you have up to 5 lines of internet that can come out of that switch. You will need another cat-5 cable to run from the back of your switch to your computer and then another cat-5 cable to run from the switch to your xbox. The same set up that most people are playing XBconnect or Gamespy with right now. Only difference is that your computer and Xbox will not have to talk for you to play Xbox Live. Xbox Live is Plug and Play. Which basically means is all your need is an internet onnection into the back of your Xbox and you are set.

Or you could get a wireless switch and that way you wont have to run a lot of cables all over your house. I mean your office could be on a whole nother floor for all I know. But to tell you the truth I knwo nothing about the whoe wireless thign so maybe you should look into that or ask a question on the baords about that too!

Hope that helps

SO then what is a that thing that thing?

check out this link :
http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=29&prid=149

that is a switch. You plug your internet source in the back and it can split it up 5 more times. SO you could have 5 computers hooked up to the internet through this switch all on the same internet connection.

And wat is a cat 5?

A cat 5 cable is the cable that runs from the cable modem to the switch and from the switch to whetever needs the internet connections (ie computer, Xbox etc)

So that website you gave me with the thing thats what I need? If so why?

Are you serious?? I have explained what the freaking switch does and its need and purpose a few times. It takes your internet connection and can split it up to 5 times so 5 things can use the internet connections. And no you dont have to buy THAT one from that site. But Linksys is pretty good.

I've seen people ask elsewhere about having their computer and Xbox hooked up to the same DSL connection and online at the same time if that would slow it down.

Just talked to a guy the other day who put 25 computers all on the same DSL hookup, and according to him there was absolutely no slow-down.

I know it hasn't been brought up here, but it didn't seem like this was worth it's own thread. It was interesting to me anyway.

And, no, I haven't actually seen it, but there doesn't seem much point in making that up.

Ok. I recently recovered my lost gamertag by deleting the corrupted profile and have been playing for several weeks now. A new problem has surfaced... Every time my house phone rings I get disconnected from the game I am in (typically Gears of War) and or disconnected from xbox live entirely. This is really starting to annoy me. If any one can provide insight on my dilemma I would greatly appreciate it.
