View Full Version : Can you sign on with two accounts?
What I mean is, can my wife and I play on xbox live from the same xbox and have both our gametags show up?

I read about this somewhere. It is 1 account per xbox for the $10 a month. If you want 2 accounts it might cost like $5 more for the second. But I don't know how they would do this during the 1st year free. But if you wanted to just have 1 account you can both play at the same time and your own account name whatever it is will show up and then whoever else is playing with you on the same xbox will show up as a guest.
If we had two accounts, could we both use them at the same time so our gametags will both show up instead of just one?

I don't remember reading about that. I'm not sure but I don't see why you would want to spend more money just to be able to have a second gametag instead of having guest as it. You might even have to buy 2 starter kits if you want 2 different names I don't even know. But this isn't until 3 months away so by then all this stuff would be definate instead of something that I remember reading off a site. All that can even be wrong. But it was some xbox site or maybe even xbox.com I don't remember. Just wait until around it comes out you'll have your answer by then.

Marc, take a look at this picture. It show's the XBL dashboard asking if you want to creat an addtional account for $4.95...I am assuming(sp) that both names will show....but Sarg is correct, it's still unclear.

I've had the same question... still no definite answer yet. The Beta test will tell

I was wondering the exact same thing, so I asked Xbox Support today...this is what they said...
When you create an Xbox Live account, it will come with 3 extra "Guest" accounts.

Uh, I just said you get three extra guest accounts. Which means you can have three other gamertags, three other friends list, etc. So it's just like three seperate accounts. :)

Can more than one person play on a single Xbox with Xbox Live?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Last updated: 07/21/2002)
(Note: I cannot say where I get this information, nor can I guarantee it is accurate. My confidence level for each statement is in parentheses.)
Yes. Depending on the game, up to four players will be able to play on Xbox Live on a single Xbox (100%). There are two ways this can happen:
Option 1: Single GamerTag with up to three Guests (99%)
With this type of game, a paid XBL subscriber logs on with one of his GamerTags and up to three of his friends play with him on the same Xbox (99%). With at least some games, only the paid subscriber can use the Communicator (99%) and there may be other restrictions placed on guests, depending on the game (50%). Statistics for the game will only be saved for the active GamerTag, not for the guests (75%).
Option 2: Multiple GamerTags playing simultaneously (50%)
(Unlike Option 1, this option has not been seen yet by beta testers, so this is speculation. The entire description has a confidence level of 50%.)
With this type of game, either a single XBL subscriber uses two or more of his GamerTags - one for each player on his Xbox - or players bring their own GamerTags on memory cards. Each player can use a Communicator and stats are saved individually for each GamerTag.
Option 2 is interesting because without it - i.e. if all games only allow a single active GamerTag per Xbox - the "portability" of GamerTags suddenly becomes less important. Why would you take your GamerTag over to a friend's house if you couldn't use it and his at the same time? Portable GamerTags only become useful to take GamerTags to friends who don't already have XBL - and then you need to bring the install disc and make sure he's got a router or a direct connection blah blah blah. Although we haven't seen a game that supports Option 2 just yet, it's still very early in the process and I gotta think this will be possible. Stay tuned.
