I really dont know much about 3DO but I do know that it was the first console to be built by an American company. And the console did poorly in Europe and Japan. Same with the Xbox. I am starting to think that since both consoles were made in america they sold bad. since Nintendo and Sony are Japenese comapanies they did much better. Do you think if the Xbox was nintendo's or Sony's console it would have sold better? Thats what I think. I geuss there is no room for an American console in a Japenese market.

Btw... Does any one know about the 3DO? What were its sales? I just want to know if Xbox is following in its path.

Well, yes.. had this been Nintendo or Sony the console would have sold better. But whats the point? Both Sony and Nintendo have established themselves as console names for years now whereas MS is just starting. I don't think it has anything to do with racism.

But what about the 3do it was a US console and lost miserlably (sp) It was the most advanced system at that time. Isnt there a resmblence to the Xbox here?

Infromation:

The 3DO Interactive Multiplayer is a video entertainment console originally released in 1993. It was created by the 3DO Company, founded by Trip Hawkins for the purpose of creating the system. The company set the system specs and other companies actually manufactured 3DO systems. There were Goldstar, Panasonic, and Sanyo 3DO systems. Also released was the Creative Labs '3DO Blaster', which allowed a PC to emulate the 3DO system. 3DO, especially the Panasonic model, enjoyed a small amount of popularity, especially late in its existence, yet was never a mainstream success. It is mostly forgotten today, and the 3DO Company is currently best known for their software releases for other systems. Ironically, the 3DO Company is much more successful publishing software for systems such as Playstation, Nintendo 64, and the PC than it was for its own.

The term '3DO' is said to have come about as Trip Hawkins dreamed of the impact of the system. He stated that it would be the next step in entertainment. The progression would go: 'audio... video... three-deo...'

3DO died in 1996. Several causes led to its demise. It was initially launched at a price of $700 US, which was simply too much for most casual gamers to consider. Also, everything involving 3DO was liberally licensed. The 3DO Company allowed developers to release extremely bad games: Plumber's Don't Wear Ties and Shadow: War of Succession, are considered to be two of the worst games ever made, if not the worst. Once good software began to be released, and the system price became reasonable, one factor still buried 3DO. In the summer of 1995, Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation were launched with huge marketing hype. Any prospective 3DO buyer would also have to take a look at these systems, both of which had impressive launch titles.

There were several good points about 3DO that gave the owners of the system their money's worth though. For two years, 3DO was the 'most advanced video game system in the universe', as their tagline stated. With several 32-bit processors and 3MB of RAM, it was well ahead of other 'next generation' systems, such as the 16-bit Philips/Magnavox CD-I and the pseudo 64-bit Atari Jaguar. In addition, some 3DO games are truly great. For example, Star Control II, considered to be one of the greatest PC games of all time, has an updated and very much improved version for 3DO. Super Street Fighter II Turbo is an arcade perfect port of the best game in the series. Other titles were so unique, they wouldn't have been given a chance on any other platform. This is why the 3DO Company's liberal licensing practice was implemented: to promote variety. Truly great titles such as Twisted, Zhadnost, and Trip'D could only have been released on 3DO; and the fact that 3DO is so obscure is itself attractive to many collectors. The Goldstar 3DO is the only video game system ever to be made in Korea, and 3DO is the largest game console to have officially licensed pornographic titles. 3DO definitely has a unique appeal that no other system does.

Part of it is racism but not in the sense everyone see's racism. It's the thought that other countries see the products America produces as inferior. Not because they hate Americans. Often times, such is the case, but not with Xbox. It is clearly stronger than any other game system made, Japanese or otherwise. Because of the MYTH that American's make bad products, they are un willing to offer the Xbox a chance. SO unfortunate that so many consumers over seas are closed minded about our products.

Well if i remember correctly it failed because of the games, due to there not being enough of them. could be wrong.

also Didn’t it have a look of the Xbox? Shape and size. Also I though the controllers looked very similar to the Saga Saturn..

3do wasn't the first american console earliest i can think of is coleco or somthin and 3do also made a fatal mistake of selling the system for $700 way out of the price range of gamers when it came out but i can see this was alreay posted and xbox is not dying like 3do

I am over seas, and I hate the ps 2 u can't imagine how much I hate it, the only problem with the Xbox is advertising that's all, not games, not machine not price nothing like that, advertising, people in Europe I believe prefer American product they don't have to wait for the translating version like in ps two, but for some reason it is happening again an American system and still for example the uk get all the games so late, why?!!! No advertising enough, and this is funny I mean Microsoft can sell Ice to the ice people..

In my country it didn't get here yet, and there is no release date,,,, why?! Sony concerning my country...damn it...

And there is of course the big hype around Sony like every one is buying what the other is buying with out testing it .,....

If they only had eyes and put doa 3 they will see that the ps two is dead...

sony is laughing at ms for sure, cuz they tell them self’s look at this, we have such a ****ty console and people still prefer our console...

The 3DO was $700 american when it was released and had very few quality titles. Plus the company 3D0 isn't the best video game company in the world either (how many Army Men games must we get?).

"racism in the gaming world"??
Are you talking about me again? ;)

Anyway, I don't think XBox is gonna end up like 3DO. first of all... everything magnum blast said. Second of all, XBox isn't doing that bad after 9 months.

maybe nationalism or continentism, but not racism. America is made up by many different races... even canadians...

that word just sends shivers down my spine... canadians. ugh:eek:

Ditto. But also, don't forget one of Microsoft's biggest hurdles - Bill Gates being the wealthiest person in the world makes many many folks think of Microsoft as a whole as "evil". That's why many people make up irrational excuses to avoid the Xbox - "It blows up", "It's just a cheap PC", etc...
