Yes, we all know that XboxLive is going to be great and the next big thing in video gaming. It's the reason, I just got broadband, and I hope ya'll do also. I cant wait to beat all of ya'll and have some crazy stats to show for it.

But my thread is more of a concern. I just started playing CounterStrike, one of my favorite games after Halo, GoldenEye, and Conker's BFD. I love every aspect of that game until I heard someone using voice communication. Oooh God was it annoying. I even had to change servers. It was that annoying.

I got really excited about the voice communication system for Xbox, especially with all the nifty voice alteration. I always thought it was a great idea. That was until I realized how annoying it made a great game like CounterStrike become. I just wanted to play not hear someone go on and on about raiding the bombsite.

I know there will be a mute feature, but is voice communication really a good idea? What do ya'll think? Do you think it'll make the game more intense or just really annoying? Because when you think about it, we play video games to take a break from the monotony of life, people, and conversation.

No, i really rather have a keyboard. voice communication sounds good on paper, but thats where it ends i think, I mean, you could be alone in your room late at night playing online and youd have to talk to other players that are on your team and whatnot, a keyboard is silent and is a better way to communicate too, when were playing Halo online, will we really want our team mates to be blurting out the attack plans to the other team? I think if there was a keyboard, then you would be able to access some kind of allied chat or something, like in starcraft. I live with my parents and I wouldnt really want my dad to be playing online knowing some of the stupid things poeple would say just to get people mad, it just seems like it wont hit big, im hoping they switch to keyboard.

Look people if you dont wanna talk you dont have too. You dont need the communicator to play the games. And there will be an option to talk to your teammates only and mute the other team

If you don't like voice communication, that is why the mute button is included.

I'm looking forward to the Communicator. If there's an ass in a game who keeps on and on, I will first tell them to shout the F up. Then I will mute them if they carry on. Ofcourse, I personally welcome open taunts to the other team but not too much and certainly, nobody should use team chat option to babble.

PS. They should have a keyboard for the X-Box. I mean, not everyone can be able to use the Communicator. And, the keyboard ought to have more options then the Communicator (individual chat ingame).

Yea sure . . . maybe u guys r a little slow but when u r playing let say, CTF and your teammate grabs the flag, your gunna have time to, put down the controller, type "Hit the warp im waiting there with the Warthog" . . . not if im on the other team u wont . . . . besides 1 puch of a button and i can mute the entire other team . . . or mute any A-holes that u dont wanta hear . . . a keyboard is a horrable idea, and its totly not needed on a Console

Yeah I know you can mute other players. Not having a mute would probably ruin the experience. What i'm asking is voice communication really going to enhance the experience of online gaming.

Do you really care about talking to people you dont know. Not really. The point of online people is to beat other humans. You get a totally different satisfaction when you beat a human with unpredictable strategies unlike a computer opponent. That's the real fun. Like killing a player in CounterStrike and seeing "Your Name" killed "Dead Mother F*cker." Taunting and bragging is unnecessary. Why bother with it when you've got all the joy you need by winning.

That's why I dont think it'll be that great. It's always nice to have the option available, but it's going to be annoying when it's on in my opinion from playing CS. But hopefully Microsoft, will make it more enjoyable that what i have in mind.

And I agree with Nitrate, if you want to use a keyboard play on your PC. It'll take away from the console feel--its a feeling of simplicity and purity. Typing, although less annoying than hearing others babbling, just doesnt belong on XBOXLIVE. My opinion.

Dude do u know how much harder gaming would be, how much more stratagic moves u could pull off being able to communicate with your teammates . . . . orangizing a massive strike on the enemys base and telling your team sniper where the bad guys r. . . . or just being able to tell your team where to pick u up with the flag, or what escape route to take cauz the other team has some spots blocked off . . . . this is a new level of tactics that will be implyed during gameplay . . . besides what do u think the buddy list is for . . . to put on the people r anrt immature and dont babble all day long after a month or so u will know whos your type to play and whos not and a few month later u will know morw people that aren't d!cks . . .

Heck ya.. Oppium has it right on. The communicator is going to bring console gaming to a completely new level. Thinking about CTF Halo 2 with voice enabled... playing massive 16 player games... drool... drool.. and more drool.

I also heard that some games will enable a proximity feature. I think online RPG's might benefit the most from this, actually.. it seems more of a necessity in MMORPG's. If you are 50 feet away from me, you won't hear me. Stand inside a 10 foot radius and then you will. That kind of tech. is pretty cool too...

Think of the possibilities the communicator is bringing!! Imagine that.. you and 2 other teammates are at your base in the blood gulch. You yell "2 peeps to the warthog"... while in the warthog, you can yell stuff to your passenger as well as the gunner. You can also plan your attack on the ride over. Ah man... its going to be so much fun!!

hats what im talkin about dude . . . the communicator will raise the skill level and stratagy exponentialy(sp) u call to your sniper(s) and tell him where the other team is have them give the cover fire . . . drop into the base. . . while u corodinate another teammate to move through the front grab the flag, all this while telling your ride to be ready to pick u up in the back of the enemy base . . . . take off for your base to get the point . . . but the other team can communicate as well, and they telling their snipers what escape route you are taking. . . . i cant wait to start planing out stratgies for massive CTF game, its going to be a whole differnt experiance play video games when XBL comes out. . . .

Yeah good point, but in Starcraft its no bother typing what u want to say, u just find the time to say it, I think what has been said has really left a more positive look on the communicator, i think its gonna take some getting used to though, and some times it will be inconvenient, but this has really changed my thoughts about it, it sucks though cause my parents dont wanna get broadband, i gotta beg some more.

I don't know if you guys are slow but what about the people who can't use the Communicator? Sorry for being sarcastic, but not everybody is able to use the communicator be it due to physical disabilities, not being able to speak the language very well or them being guests (not allowed to use the communicator). The Communicator is great don't get me wrong, and I will certainly be using it ingame, but I would like to see keyboards as an optional hardware inplace of the Communicator. I mean, if there's going to be some sort of chat rooms or something like lobbies then I am pretty sure I rather have texts then 20 voices in my head. Heck and why not have a keyboard? There's a 40 button controller just for one game!

I at first doubted the xboxlive communicator. I apologize. I havent used it, so all i could go by was cs voice communication. However, in ToysRUs I saw an xboxlive video demo on the xbox demo machine. All my doubts are gone for now. It showed how simple muting everyone or just one person can be. Not to mention, I began to cry when I saw how sweet XboxLive will be. It was neat seeing a cute Chinese girl talk like a tough man. I have to admit I'm actually quite excited about it now. I just hope in Halo Next I'll be able to talk in 'grunt.'

XBOXLIVE will change my life--social life for the worse, but joy and happiness for the better

yea, i know what u mean. but remember, the voice doesnt come in through your tv, its a headset, so only you hear it. so the game sounds come in through the tv, and the voices come in through the headset. so if someone is annoying, or if you just dont wanna listen to anyone, you can just take the headset off. or mute people:)

I've seen a Xbox keyboard out there in a magazine.
I wouldn't use one, but it's out there.

Keyboard... What are you thinking?!... That would ruin any and every xbox game. As for cross language communication, I think they said they are gonna have a translate option or something. Even if they don't, why would you join a game with a bunch of germans if you cannot speak german? It makes no sense. Just think about it. I think that they will have a variety of options for the communicator sound. For example: Team say will be just through your headset whereas if you are talking to everyone it will come through the speakers but if you are too far away from the person you won't be able to hear it. Think of a football game, in the huddle you team say or just whisper the play then on the line of scrimmage before the hike you yell across at your opponents some sort of taunt. It would be amazing. Like playing real football except without any physical contact or anything. Or take Soccer (real football), you are running down the line with oyour character wide open and shouting for the ball. You break and score, here is where the goal celebration comes in. With Xbox live it seems there are limitless possibilities for amazing gaming. Just think of what a game like Battle Field 1942 would be like f it was online with XBL. *DROOL* :D
