Hey folks, I'm still at work.. but the wife called. She's got my Xbox live beta kit in her hands right now! I know I said I wouldn't post untill I was home and playing.. but just wanted to settle the disputes over whether this was real or not. YES IT IS REAL! My wife HAS MY BETA KIT. She says that everything in the picture is definately there. Woot!

Now.. I've got to use all my military training to evade detection as I sneak out of work. I'm gonna try to leave in 20 minutes. (it's 10:41) then I gotta drive the beltway home, that'll take close to an hour. Then I gotta get some errands done, hook up Live and play. So expect a full report by no later than 1:00. Unless my bosses track me down. Hehe

Maybe it's me, my setup, or something but setup is a B****! XBConnect is SO MUCH easier! I'm already an hour in and having nothing but trouble.

PS: whining about how much trouble you have setting up something that 80% of us on the boards don't even get yet ... asking for trouble.

Seriously dude.....XBC and Gamespy were so simple.....but I'm afraid that setup isn't going to work for LIVE. First time I called support, got right through, now on the 2nd try, I'm on hold forever. I'm thinking you're GOING to have to use a router/hub setup to connect. The 1st tech I spoke to said this. I'm using a ethernet port to link the systems, which works fine on Gamespy and XBC.
Hey, did u guys have to pay sales tax on that b!tch? My freaking total was 61.02. I;'m not complaining or anything, but I thought I had to pay tax cause I live in WA, but these things were shipped from GA.

Well, I paid 59.77...so I dunno how they taxed, but I'm in NY.
And Filthy, I just got mine and all of a sudden...I'm feelin kinda sick...guess I should be leaving and going to see the doctor ;)
Ah, I guess the tax depends on your state. WA'ssales tax rate is 8%. Sounds high but there is no state tax here.

Everyone should live in New Hampshire... $55.17, no sales tax... Hope there is saturday delivery...
No sales tax in New Hampshire? IS there any state tax or car tax? In WA there is no state tax or car tax, but 8% sales tax. In SC there is 5% sales tax, state tax, and a pretty substantial car tax...

In NH there is no income or sales tax... Although there is a luxury tax on curtain stuff like resturaunts. Our car registration isn't to out of control... But where they get us is we have a pretty high property tax... And you can buy alcohol any day of the week...

Guys you have to have a router! =)

That's looking more obvious, although in the setup sheet, it shows a direct connection. Hold times with support are over 2 hours now...obviously there are problems.

I'm still saying that XBC and Gamespy were MUCH SIMPLER than this. I had those up and running in a matter of minutes. But this thing won't connect!

I can't see any technical reason as to why you would need a router to connect to it. simply going directly to your cable modem should work perfectly. only thing i could think of is that people have the wrong cable (xover or straight through) and the hub can switch the signal to the correct one (after hitting a switch). other than that, it should work.

Good Point Jarvis, never even thought about having the wrong cable. Two kinds in general straight through ad crossover. Striaght Through is for direct connection right? and crossover if gor a router? I think....LOL!! I have 3 puters and an xbox on my network and i think they all use crossover cables through a routher. I also have a DSL provider..

No! A crossover cable is for pc-to-pc connection (or in this case xbox-to-xbox), and a straight through cable is for pc-hub or pc-router or pc-cable modem, so if you're trying to use your xbox system link cable to hook up your xbox to either your broadband connection or hub than that's wrong. Although Jarvis is right, most of the time you can switch the hub for what type of cable you're using.

I've been using this setup for XBC and Gamespy: USB modem, with XBOX connected to my PC's ethernet port. Worked fine with networking enabled for those two services. But when XBOX live tries to connect, it says it can't find the IP address. There are two options, you can let it search automatically, or enter it yourself. I've tried both ways.....no connection.
