"No router is needed if you have windows XP
ok do this...
(This only works if you have Windows XP install)
1.) Install a Nic card in your computer. After you finish install you should see a icon with a red X in the task bar. That normal so don't worry.
2.) buy a cross over ethernet cable & connect it from the Xbox to the nic card in your PC. (make sure the nic card is install correctly before plugging in the cable)
ONLY CROSS-OVER ETHERNET CABLE WILL WORK
3.) Turn on your Xbox. The red X icon in the taskbar should of now disapear since it made a connect to your Xbox & PC.
4) Go to --> Start --> Accessories --> Comminication & open Network Setup Wizard
5) Click Next till you get to the Select a connection method window. --> Check the first option then click next. --> Now it will show you a list of nic card & modem connected to your PC, select your broadband modem then click next --> Then click next again --> Type computer decriptione ct: doesn't matter what you type. then click next --> Workgroup should be MSHOME or wutever you wanna name it then click next again --> Then clcik next again to finish. In the end it will ask you if you want to create a network floppy disk ect: just pcik the last option "finish".
Thats it, it might ask you to reboot, do it if it does if it don't then don't worry. Shut down your firewall if you have one then go to the Xbox start up disk & test if it detect your connection. "
My question is;
k, for starters I am a dumb ass when it comes to networking. Is 256K download and 96K upload enough?
I know I will need a 10/100 card installed on my pc. Right? Is that the same thind as a NIC?
The LinkSys 10/100 card I planned on getting a BestBuy only had one Jack on it. If you fill it with the crossover cable, where will your service plug in at? Or is a 10/100 card needed plus a modem?
I understand the setting it up through ICS pretty good. But please help?
Oh, and I already have the red x in the task bar, yet I only have a 56k modem. What does that mean. It is the local area connection.:rolleyes:
