Revealed today in a filing with the SEC, Nvidia and Microsoft have not come to terms over the cost of Nvidia’s GPU. Nvidia still refuses to lower the cost of chips it sells Microsoft, saying that original profit estimates failed to pan out. Microsoft is seeking damages to the tune of $13 Million as Nvidia has violated the original deal. Nvidia claims that their costs are higher than expected and refuses to budge, saying that Microsoft owes them more money. If this problem is not resolved quickly production of GPU’s for the Xbox by Nvidia may slow to a halt.

Microsoft representatives have been meeting with several different chipmakers in Taiwan, among them the contractor in Taiwan who builds the GPU’s for Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Just today it was revealed Microsoft has gotten ACER computer maker Wistron, also based in Taiwan, to make Xbox’s for them. Wistron will make several components of the Xbox themselves, although the terms of the agreement have not been released. (Check Xboxgaming for full article on Wistron deal) I think evidence is mounting that the Nvidia GPU may be replaced in the Xbox.
