View Full Version : Sega GT2002 when you upgrade the AI gets a boost too =(

That sucks and might make me hate the game. One thing I loved about GT3 was when you upgraded and went to an old race you would own them with your new car. You could see your performance increase in races as you upgrade.

In this damn game if you upgrade the AI gets a boost as well so no feeling of power or anything. Im sad to say it was the same in GT2 and I hated that game it sucked compared to GT1. O well ill give it a shot but it will probably go back to EB store near me.

ARRGH damn the loss of feeling the upgrades. I want to see the performace increase not have the AI always at my damn level!!!

Thanks, I forgot to ask about that I hate this too, it's like 4X4 Evo. I know, how dare I compare it to that.

Where did you get this info by the way?

Vipermmx

Gamespot review. He said the AI gets enhanced when you upgrade. He said you have to learn how to upgrade so the AI isnt to hard because the cars so fast.

This just really ticks me off =( I hated GT2 just because the fact no matter what race when I upgraded the AI always kept with me. I had a supped on Camero and the AI went from Ford escorts to vipers and corvettes. =(

It made it feel to arcade like.

Quit your whining and if you don't like the game for that reason why bother coming on here and crying about it!?

I for one like a challenge.. i don't wanna just upgrade and then destroy my opponents.. i like a consistent challenge.

i think what he is trying to say is that he doesn't like the fact that the AI changes because, whats the use of upgrading if the computer is going to be at your level the whole time? I see what you mean man, that stinks

arrrgh then go buy an Arcade game like PG. This is susposed to be a Simulator not a freaken arcade game. Any moron knows that if the AI upgrades with you then the upgrade option is useless and nothing more then a feature to list.

Why the hell spend time upgrading a car when you will never have the advantage with your nice new turbo. The AI will just get the same upgrades. It destroys the whole upgrade process. Why the hell you think GT2 sucked and then changed it in GT3????

Why whine here? Because its a forum and to let people know about this and see how they feel. Sheesh. Noobs...

jjust work your way up to the Jiotto Caspita, and then you will have the fastest supercar (stock) in the game. 205 mph JAPANESE beast. Lovely and its one of my favorite supercars. I was thrilled to see it finally into a game. I shoudl start emailing companies left and right to put other cars into the game :) I know hundreds of supercars, so maybe I can persuade some people into putting a Innotech Mysterro into GT4 or 5

Arcade? what are you insane this has to be one of those things that sale a game (to real racers) i got sick of blower away the ai. i love having wheel to wheel races when the winniner is the guy that drive the best hits the apex just right and carries the most speed threw the turn. you have no idea of what a real racing sim should be, i would stay away from this game if you are looking to race like that. i cant wait to beat the crap out of people like you on xbl when we get the online add on disc. dam lol i cant wait to get this game.

Us real racers are the ones that know this game will suck because of this upgrade issue. Im not talking about a crappy AI iom talking about an AI that is always your level. Theres no use in upgrade it makes every race feel the same(not to mention only 12 tracks).

Ill have this game soon and ill review the whole upgrade. If its like GT2 its going back to the store. I hope they didnt add this crappy upgrade system for a feature to list and made it so the AI only upgrades at certain points of the game.

Hmm, this upgrade thing puts a serious dent in the game *for me*... if i start out with a mini cooper, and the 1st track is against mini coopers... and i keep finishing 3rd, so i take my winnings and drop a bigger engine in it, lower it, and take some weight off of it, my hard work should pay off by blowing away the competition.

4x4 evo2 was an ok game... the missions were really fun, but the point of the missions was to build a baja beast for the races. i get to the races with my suped up truck, and guess what? i wasted my time in mission mode because im up against all suped up trucks... there is no point in playing the game any longer at this point.

thats just my opinion, i could be wrong.

BINGO thats what im saying. It sucks to upgrade your mustang into a power house and race on an old track to see the major difference against the AI then get to the race and the old cars are replaced with vipers and supped up racers. It destroys the whole game.

you people have no idea what a racing sim is and i feel dirty just being around this kind of talk.

Dude I think your the only one that doesnt understand what a racer is. Your idea of a sim is one where the AI is always your level. THEN THERES N O NEED TO UPGRADE. My god man get it through the skull. Upgrade is USELESS ifd the AI always stays your level. It destroys the game as you can see ALL of us agree its a bad thing but you. Maybe because you like arcade games and think there real racers?

You cant just throw in physics on car models and claim its a sim.

morfeeis
09-04-2002, 06:13 AM
i find this sad that i'm the ojnly one that understands what the word sim mean. do you nice people think that in real life that u can race a z29 vs a focus ? no it just wont happen or a stock ss camaro vs a modded ss maro? no this just wont happen , the point of upgradeing a car is two improve your driving and your times a real race in run not with the cars on the trcak but aginst the clock. look at rally racing they dont even go head to head they sup up their cars to get a better time.

this is the point of having class races. it would suck to upgrade your car just to blow the ai out of the water. people come on show some balls i want comp i dont want to just blow the ai away. This is just so sad.

i dont understand how this could be seen as a bad thing. get mad if you guys want but i think you're all a buch of pussies and have no idea what a racing sim is (if you say this make the game arcadie).

Every car game is a sim. You simulate driving on a TV. I'm sick of people forming an opinion over hearsay. Play the thing for yourself before making blanket statements.

I am sorry but 12 freaking tracks are not going to cut it and by gamespot's review, some of those 12 tracks are the same as others with some small variance. Damn, even Nes games had more tracks than this game.

No need to play the game to make an opinion on this element of the game, it has been pointed out in both Gamespot and ign review and being THE flaw of the game.

before anyone else says they know what a sim is, as in a simulation of real racing, let me share this with you, there are races me and my brother want to race in, they race neons, they race them because they are cheap to supe up, not everyone does it, and they don't win, and the ones that do win, make further upgrades to their cars.

SO... ill buy the "race the same class" argument, but i wont buy into the "i supe my car up, the AI supes their car up" from the start of the series, the player should be able to supe up his car as much as he can afford to, and race vs stock cars... if you land the top podium every race, by the end of the series you should be blowing those cars away with all the upgrades you should be able to buy.

i wouldnt know, but it sounds like sega gt2002 is lacking options... i personally like GT2's manufacturer class races, things of that sort.

Hey GT2 was a failure so ill watch this game burn as well. Returns hurt companys. GT2 failed BECAUSE PLAYERS DIDNT LIKE UPGRADEING AND HAVING THE AI CHANGE ITS CAR TO SUPERS.

So whatever. I get the game today ill hammer it then return it if AI never has a slower car while I upgrade. Its just not realistic. In real races some cars have better upgrades and some just stock it still.

GT3 is a winning formula. Dont use it and game sucks. Everyone knows GT3 is what all racing sims what to be and conquer. based on the reviews its a wannbe with few tracks and fewer cars with an AI that upgrades with you every step making upgrades feel pointless. You never get to have that race with a supped up Viper vs a old race track with slow cars.

GAMESPOT

{{As you upgrade your car, you'll face tougher opponents as well, until you get to the point where it takes you the entire race to threaten first place}}

So in essence cars never ever slow down abit as you upgrade. They always stay with you to the point where you never have a semi advantage even when fully built up.

BAH.

I didn't knew about Moto GP buddy since I only played the demo. 10 tracks sure sounds small in my book. 16 is also a small number for me. I mean, PGR had far many, and Rallisport had what, 49 tracks?

I just hope that they release the addon for tracks soon, I'll wait for it before buying the game or rent before buying.

In other words, this game'll suck because you can race a souped up mustang against a bunch of pintos and annihilate their asses...

It's fine if the AI cars upgrade to me. Racing games get REALLY boring if you can simply dominate the races with a superior car.

Sad thing is 12 tracks in GT2002 and some are close to eachother in looks. Thats sad.

As for racing and killing the AI listen people. Open your brain waves. What I mean is racing with upgrades. When im fully upgraded i want to see me pull ahead better then I did last race. Instead the AI just advances.

That just makes upgrades useless. Sheesh.

Go play GT2 and then GT3.

I'd like to appoligize to everyone because I gave a false information. I just re-read the gamespot review and it's not true that Gt 2002 has only 12 tracks.

In fact, I was overly generous since it's in fact 8 tracks!!!!!!1, even lower than Moto gp.

Despite the great visual and sound package, Sega GT's gameplay isn't tuned for a fun ride: Competitions can be won only through buying the best parts - and not through your driving.

I'd be ok with the fact that the AI upgrades when you do ONLY if they werent alwasy equal to/better than you. If they get something the same time you do, but its not as good, its cool. If they get something equal or better, thats cool too. Just not equal are better EVERYTIME.

I been playing it.

Forget what I said. The game is alot of fun. Instead of the AI being easy like in GT3 and you winning most the time you start off losing races. As you upgrade you start winning races easier. Like I was getting 3rd most the time and then when I finished my upgrades I was having an easier time getting first.

Also the AI is a ***** they wont let ya pass like in GT3. This game is like GT3 but backwards. The AI starts hard and your upgrade make you catch up to them and it feels alot better then starting off faster then AI and becoming a god in racing.

This works alot better. The AI has the advantage but as you upgrade it becomes easier to win the race but never to easy. Once fully upgraded for that class you will race neck to neck for first. When you first start out with no upgrades you will get 3rd-4th place alot.

The whole speculation about the number of tracks is silly. Play the game and count them if you really care. I've played it, but only for 2 hours. While I obviously don't have any solid numbers, I tend to believe there are plenty of tracks. What you do get also get is multiple variations of the same tracks. One race you will race portion "a" of the track, next race you might race portion "b", then later the entire track. If you've played TD LeMans, it works the same way. I do know that the courses are pretty long, and some are very challenging. I only raced in the very early races, and have already been on 5 courses, not including the drag strip.

I played it for about 2 hours last night.

I started off by buying a Peugeut 206 and winning the first 3 races(stages) After upgrading my suspension and tires I got my c class license. I won 2 cars and sold 1 and kept the Renault Clio. I sold my original car and raced the 4th stage.

The AI is great. If you bump them they will get revenge by coming after you. You have to watch out when you race so you don't damage your car too much. I always end up losing about $400 every race to repairs.

My controls are:
Left Trigger-Brake
Right Trigger-Acc
Left Thumbstick-Steering.

I'll check back often and answer as many ??? as I can.

How do you approach the turns..?
Thanks.

Moto GP helped a lot! I attack the turns and still think I'm on a Honda VR4.

The handling varies on car. I noticed the difference when switching to the Clio. The sense of speed isn't as strong as MGP but it's still fun. The tracks are really nice. Won't get boring to me.

Would you say that it beats every other racer on Xbox..?

This means a lot to me. I was completely blown away with RSC, so I'm hoping Sega GT will do even better.
Damn Canada, it's not here yet...

I like Rallisport but this one is a little better...not in graphics but it's fun. Sega Gt has some nice graphics but they are not as good as I expected. This does not take away from the game but I was hoping for photo real cars and tracks.

See? As everyone plays the game, they realize that it isn't as bad as this thread initially (as a whole) thought it would be.

And before anyone says it...I'm aware that not everyone thought the game would suck.

I might go and see if it's available here in a little while...

this is the point of having class races. it would suck to upgrade your car just to blow the ai out of the water. people come on show some balls i want comp i dont want to just blow the ai away. This is just so sad.

i dont understand how this could be seen as a bad thing. get mad if you guys want but i think you're all a buch of pussies and have no idea what a racing sim is (if you say this make the game arcadie).

I think this guys is the only one who knows what hes talking about. I agree with him totaly, if the ai stays up to your lvl it is based on your driving skill and how well you tweeked your car to fit your driving style.

I found the courses to be challenging. Some of them are downright tight. You don't have many places to pass cleanly, and passing cleanly takes on a whole new concept. You start becoming aware of car damage with the damage meter. It's fruitless to win a race with your damage maxed out. Plus, after you take enough damage, your car starts runing rough, and you might experience handling problems. Last night I wanted to win thsi race badly, and wasn't getting any passing chances. I decided to take the win and forgo the money. I started stuffing my fender under the AI cars in the turns. Near the end of the race, my damage meter was empty, and my car was having a hard time shifting...it was getting stuck and skipping around. I nearly got caught by the 2nd place car. I like this though.

Ever notice how most rally games the tracks are like 5 lanes wide? I've never watched a real rally where the courses are anywhere near that wide. I also recall a few tracks in the original GT being really wide. Not here buddy. Most of these tracks are narrow. With the exception of the tri-oval, most are barely two lanes wide, and in a lot of places, not even two lanes. This is the 1st racing game that I've ever played that forces you to sit back, and patiently wait for a good opportunity to pass. I'm so used to cramming my way past everybody. Not in this one.

I bought a used muffler and air cleaner just to have them break during a race. My car was smoking like a chimney.

The last few posts are pretty accurate. I got it yesterday and played for a few hours, got through stage 1 and a liscence. The upgrade function works fine, if you go bask and re-race the stages you have already completed you will notice pull away speed, at least i did. Oh, as long as your car class doesn't change...thats the key, i don't want to race my Viper against a Ford Focus. You race your class.

The layout of the game is really sweet, putting a car up for sale and seeing it infront of the garage with a sign, nice little additions. The capability of taking pictures of yourself and and hanging them in your garage is cool.

I have to agree with the RSC comment, visually GT2003 doesn't compare, but i am having more fun with this game.

Bottom line, got rent it, buy it, borrow it, whatever, and decide for yourself;)

Went to the mall after school around 1:20... the game wasn't there.. both EB and Compucentre are still expecting the game soon...

I'm stll hoping to buy it today..

And isn't it funny how the person who started this thread is one of the people that is really enjoying the game right now?... For future referece don't judge a game without first playing it.

If your talking about the first licence test my only advice is that on the first Big U turn skid around it to avoid losing some time.. You will get deducted points but thats alright.. other than that i suggest you keep trying.. I completed it for the bronze license and I did no skidding...

keep racing over and over and try different things.. you will get it one day

Played the game for about 6 hours last night, have a very nicely suped up Nissan Skyline and i'm loving this game.

I am so tired of idiots who complain WITHOUT PLAYING something for at least 5 hours.

It woudlnt' surprise me at all if sega busted out some new downloadable stuff when xbox live hits, not that it's needed, i love the tracks

It seems to me the racers of the forum know 8,10 tracks whatever aint a bad thing. If you're really into racing you will need to know each track inside out, back to front and I don't know about you but 10 is about my brains limit!

Also where's the fun in steaming past the AI??

P.s MotoGP rocks everyone!!

ok i stopped reading after the 2nd page.

for the record, after i buy a car and turn it into the modded devil, i blow the AI away, upgraded AI or not, i still wipe ass either way, and i do, trust i do see the differense in semi racing brakes and tires to racing brakes and tires.

just rent the game and see what you think of it, i didnt buy into the reviews, i made a good choice, this game is GOOD, maybe i see something different or the fact that i dont knwo anything else, i didnt base this game off of GT3 i based it off of Sega GT on the Dreamcast, The game is better in all aspects. Graphics/Gameplay/sound.....the game lacked in some ways and like a couple others i feel it was rushed to release.....however, for Xbox this game is prob best you are gonna get to a "sim racer," just try it out, rent it and take it back, once you play for about 10 hours then see what your opinion.

just check it out, i like this game a lot. i have over 15 hours invested. i havent felt this way about a game since Shenmue and EQ
