actually I read this in a magazine bout 2 months ago..but they said it would have had to cost 10 extra bucks which isnt much for each console but when your selling millions of consoles it adds up.
and they figured 8 was enough.

Think about that for a moment...8 Gigs!!! That is HUUUUUGE! Jeremy-XBA actually downloaded three games and a bunch of CDs on the XBox hardrive and it didn't even put a wrinkle on the hardrive! That is amazing!!!

My computer has 12 Gigs and I have had this thing for 2 years...I haven't even come close to filling 3 gigs yet! lol...and I put in A LOT of data, too!

OFFICIAL XBOX MAGAZINE (the december issue) stated that the finalized version of the XBOX HD is 10 GB...they decided to go all out and add the 2GB...it even says in XBOX.COM (the specs section)

Actually even working at WD I am not sure if its 8 or 10gb drives. I heard though the original spec was for 10, for costs they switched it to 8, but due to available capacities they went back to 10. I do beleive that is true as no company makes an 8gb drive anymore, and we all make a 10gb, and I know when they said 8gb, WD was gonna make a special model for the Xbox, but I think we gave them a cost break on the 10 as we already had it designed. We coulda just destroked a 10gb to 8, but that wouldn't have made sense for either party.

Its 8gig....my HD is only 1.5 - crap I know.....I have bout 1mb free...lmao

Here's some more info on the HD for ya...

THE MAJORITY OF THIS IS QUOTED FROM SEAMUS BLACKLEY, DIRECTOR OF THE XBOX ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY TEAM.

Because of the hard drive in the Xbox, developers have a very large, contiguous scratch area available to them which is reformatted everytime the console is reset or the power turned off.

In the sad and unlikely event that the Xbox crashes and everything goes to hell and the hard drive gets roached, you can pop in the recovery DVD that comes with the system, and it will first try to find and then fix whatever is wrong, ultimately replaceing the entire contents of the hard drive if there is no way of fixing it. Which sucks because you lose your saved games, but on the other hand is great because your Xbox works again.

But since we treat the persistent part of the hard drive simply as a large memory card (not some crazy PC-like installation system), the chances that your Xbox will get ****ed up in the first place are very very very low...

But personally I'd keep the reciept - just in case......

PS: If all does go to hell and you do have the reciept, you can take it back to where you purchased and replace it, some shops before now have told me to contact the manufacturer, but the store ARE responsible as they sold it to you......
