On another board some members got Tekki and post some impressions.
Justin-
I had a quick bash of Tekki in Bic today. Not enough to give decent impressions, but anyway, in short:
The controller is ludicrous. I mean, with the foot pedals and wires, you practically need a dedicated room to play the game. That's gotta be commercial suicide in Japan.
Having said that, the game looks awesome. It's a hardcore mech fan's dream. The visual style is one of the coolest I've seen -- you are IN the mech. Look up, and water droplets form on the screen, refracting the scenery. The image distorts and flickers slightly like real video footage, and the illusion is convincing. It looks like you're playing some other game's intro cut-scene, not a real time rendered world.
Control, frankly, boggled me. Very few of the millions of buttons seem to actually do anything, and are probably only used once if at all. The stick feels very solid and doesn't wobble. Nice. It's just a massively hardcore experience. Stomping around the hills, reading the topological map, targetting distant mechs, very slow but game probably gets quite geographically strategic as the game developers.
Jeffry McWild-
At least three people at work bought it. And, uh, one of those people doesn't have an Xbox (!!).
The game is cool! But it is very overwhelming with all the buttons. I don't know what effect all the buttons and the switches have on gameplay, or if you even use half of them during the game. Though it is cool to throw on all five of the tiny switches and hear your mech go bbbbeeEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP like the hard drive from hell warming up. The eject button is also teh r0x0r.
BTW the developer is listed as "Nude Maker" hehe
The game can NOT be played with the normal pad.
BTW there is no force feedback. I just noticed tho, that the buttons LIGHT UP and are analog lights (meaning, they can slowly glow on/off!). It looks totally rad and it reminds you what buttons to press at certain times during the game.
Man this game is cool but I'm hungry, making rice, brb
I'll post more as it comes. :D
