help with robotech please

ok i need some help im on trying to get past the 3rd part of the game(the first level when your in space)i cant get past the enemy mech.is there anyone with any tips? thanks.

What i did was switch in to battleloid mode and shot down the mechs rockets as they came towards me then i would quickly switch into guardian mode and fire my own rockets at it. It took me a couple of times to beat her but just a note u don't have to get all her life bar down i think just a bit past halfway and u will win thats how i won and then she flew away
