European Xbox Sales Rising
Microsoft announced today that sales of Xbox are increasing after the recent price cut. Although Microsoft did not release any specific numbers, it said that based on data from local tracking services Xbox now represents 49 percent of the advanced console market in the United Kingdom, 46 percent in France and 55 percent in Germany. Average number of games purchased along with a console was up to 3.7 and best selling game was Halo.
British games magazine provided some early sales numbers, saying that t the time of the price cut the Xbox had sold between 60,000 and 70,000 units in Great Britain, about 20,000 in France, and about 12,000 in Germany. Bobby Kotick, the chief executive of games publisher Activision, which handles some game distribution for Microsoft in Germany, said that "sales have been up significantly since they cut the price." He also added that "sales are just off the charts" in Australia since the price cut.
