The following is the description of the High Definition Pak:

The High Definition AV Pack connects the Xbox video game system to high definition-ready televisions. Supports 480p, 720p and 1080i component video signals for game play (NTSC only for DVD playback), analog audio inputs and digital receivers.

I am curious about the "NTSC only for DVD playback". Does that mean the xbox will not play dvd movies in progressive HDTV format?

The xbox DVD does not support progressive scan as it was originally going too. It still says that it does in the OXM but it is confirmed that it will not support progressive scan DVD

Wow, thats a bummer. That was one of the main reasons I was getting the xbox. Or actually that was the main justification reason i was using for getting the XBOX. Does anyone know if it is something they can add in the future or is it a hardware limitation?

There's an issue with licensing the progressive scan ability for movies,.. but I was reading that it doesn't affect the pro-scan of the games

how many beers have I had today?

I bet someone will figure out a way to hack the XBox into Pro Scan for DVDs as well as games. You'll need a TV capable of displaying a pro scan signal, however.
