Can anyone tell me (with a definitive answer) whether or not XBOXLIVE will work with AOL broadband which requires you to log onto aol before getting access to the internet.

If it doesnt work with XBOXLIVE someone will have to pay for it.

AOL does not work with Xbox... Not microsofts fault, it's your fault for not using MSN!!!!

AOL = n00b internet.

Everybody who chooses AOL is a complete idiot and should be shot. Microsoft knows this. This is why they made XBox Live incompatible with it.

That's all I have to say about AOL.

Hmm ... maybe if you had a router, it set for your pc and XBox, you logged on on the computer, and then turned on XBox ... hey it could work. I dunno tho ... :-/

thanks rapmaster for some encouragement at least. I'll try every single permutation and combination possible to get Live to work. I'm sure Microsoft may offer me some solution when it comes out.

And Microsoft told me to get broadband, so I got broadband. I didnt know I'd have to worry about which ISP will work. If it doesnt work, I dont think it's Microsoft's fault, I'll blame AOL for requiring me to log on for broadband to work--those f*cking internet Nazis.

heh AOL broadband works lots of people are on Beta with that. It is not like regular AOL (dunno if you know how it works but you are always online with it like cable / dsl since I think it is just dsl). You just happen to only use AOL with it. Give it a shot u can plug the cat5 ethernet that is going into your PC with AOL Broadband into the back of your xbox and it should work but you will have to get a router to split it.

Well live chat rep Chris had no answers, so I called the 800 #.

According to whatever worker monkey answered the phone, XBL is NOT compatible w/ AOL high speed.

Maybe some have figured out how to make it work (according to Jae) but he said they're working on it now and to check back in a week.

Drop AOL BB now!!! My friends tried it and it completely screwed up there computer. AOL could never get it to work for them. Plus AOL is nothing but a virus.

Use somthing else, anything, just not AOL.

That's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. AOL a virus and since your friend couldn't get it to work EVERYONE should cancel their subscription. Well, maybe your friend is a moron. Yeah.... riiight.

fowowl, im pretty sure it will work man. Don't listen to these kiddies who think they are cool to get to diss AOL. Just try it as a normal set up in the other posts, either crossover cable straight from a second NIC card to your xbox or a routerj with ethernet cable to your xbox. If not, i might be able to think of something else.

Like I said, according to MS, it won't work.

Unfortunately, when I was looking for broadband, AOL was just launching theirs, and had the best deal around. So I'll be able to let you know today if it works for me.

If it works, I might hold onto it for a little while, as it'll take at least a couple weeks to change ISP's, but if not, I'm cancelling and putting in a new order today.

How can it NOT work? Just use a router and plug the ethernet cable from the cable modem(dont think aol has DSL) into the uplink or whatever into the back of the modem, and connect the computer and the xbox into different ports on the back. The XBox should take care of much of the networking mumbo jumbo so all you have left is the comp. to worry about.

Because AOL is run by the devil and they will make it as inconvenient as possible to make it "convenient". Read the other thread about this. They actually block ports that you can't get near...sucks....but so does AOL.

I wrote the xbox support team to personally ask if AOL broadband will support XBOXLIVE because people are telling me both that it can and cannot be used. This is what I got...

......Thank you for writing to Xbox.

Regarding your inquiry, we have no information regrding that as of the moment.

Here's a link for more information: http://www.xbox.com/LIVE/xboxlive-features.htm

Sincerely,

Antz
Xbox Customer Care Team......

I got one of those worker monkeys. But it sounds like they realized the AOL problem.

Before calling someone ignorant, why not find out where it came from? Back when AOL ver. 3.0 was released, it was listed on Network Associate's website (who makes McAfee) as a virus, do to it changing your master boot record and other major system files:cool: That is, until they paid off NA to take it off of it's list in order to sustain business.

So before you call someone ignorant, take a quick peek in the mirror.

Thanks..now have a good day :)

Now that I think about it after everyone's advice, if i connected my cable modem to my computer and my Xbox at the same time using an ethernet router hub and then signed onto AOL, why wouldnt XBOXLIVE work??

I had the same problem with AOL. First thing, don't use AOL as an ISP with your boardband. AOL DOESN'T WORK!

I dont know how it is now but I setup aol broadband for this guy who was actually a beta tester for it and on the modem was a usb connector and a phone line jack (rj-11). The was no rj-45 jack and no "simple way" to network it. I don't know if they have changed their modem to include an rj-45 jack because I would not touch aol with a 10 foot pole, but back then it was not possible to hook an rj45 to the modem.
