Nevermind....I just found the thread....I am going to have cords from HELL....BUT IT IS WORTH IT!

OK....I have a 25ft Ethernet cable.......I have the username and password for my DSL account....

Does Xbox need my modem?

Anything else I need?

I looked back through old threads couldn't find anything that was clear cut....

Sorry...non-techie here....

0. An Xbox (duhhh)
1. Broadband (which you say you have [DSL])
2. A router/hub/ or switch . . . well technically you can swap the ethernet wire from your PC to Xbox everytime you want to use eighter, but this will let you use both at the same time and less of a hassle for you.
3. a credit card when you sign up for the Xbox Live service.

Man ... I have no idea why so many people have the idea that they HAVE to have a router to play XBL ... I personally don't have the extra cash to buy a router and don't need one ... I'll be playing XBL for hours at a time plus when I'm playing I'll be hooked into it and not worry about PC ... ;)

You don't HAVE to have a router to play Xbox Live, but you HAVE to have a router in order to play Xbox Live and have your computers on the LAN at the same time.

Actually, you don't "HAVE" to have a router for your pc and xbox online at the same time, get a crossover cable and turn on ICS.

You could try finding out what equipment, if any, is included w/ your DSL account. In my case, my laptop didn't have an ethernet port, so I connect to the modem via USB and the Xbox via the ethernet cable. But, my DSL company sent me a Modem/Router combo when I signed up so I didn't have an issue because my computer is hooked up via USB.
