Q: keyboard/mouse for Live? A: Will be driven by game demand and your demand for those games. Keyboards would be more likely in my mind; mice really change the dynamic of the title.

Q: textchat and or web browsing / email on Xbox Live? A: voice rules for chat. it is the Xbox way. Web browsing and email are both great things...on a PC. Use a PC for them...it works great. TV res (NTSC) isn't great for browsing, and this email thing is cool but it really sucks as a game.

Q: When does UC hit streets? A: launch, baby! see you on day 1.

Q: WHAT ABOUT MMORPG's ??? A: Great titles. Innovative worlds, great social dynamics, we love them. Galaxies is a great example...and is just the start. True Fantasy Live online is another great example. This will be a rich category on Live.

Q: Im sure you have heard that xbox has already been taken apart and hacked into, are you afraid this will happen to xbox live?: A: We watch the hacking scene to make sure we protect our partners in the game dev/publishing space. Q: What if you load your live account on someone elses xbox, can you download onto multiple xboxes? A: Paid-for downloads are tied to an Xbox...to be careful. It's the only way to really keep track of what's been paid for versus not. You pay for a d/l to a box, not to a gamer account. Free downloads can be done to any box, over and over. Free love. It's beautiful.

Q: Will there be games that require an extra fee? A: Up to game publishers; in general most titles will be covered by your base Live subscription, but we're being open to the possibility that a killer massively online title may want to do special things and charge for them.

Q: Will xbox live be adding some sort of clan management...? A: We're going to build this up over time. Communities (clans, tribes, teams, leagues) are all very key aspects of Live, and gamers are doing this already even during beta. We'll add more to it over time. More features for more types of communities will come online every month.

Interesting stuff with some good info. Some was just too much PR to swallow though like this:

That is utter BS and they know it!! EA has been one of the worst publishers for the Xbox and couldn't give a crap about their games on the Xbox. Very few of their games use any 'features' present in the Xbox. They are also the only developer that ports a game and makes it run slower and look worse on the Xbox than on the inferior PS2 counterpart. Their whole attitude towards the Xbox is blatently harmful and that line above is just an Xbox rep trying to butter them up with hopes that they will start to give a damn.

I do hope that EA gets their act together and starts putting out games for the Xbox that aren't lame excuse ports. They do make some good PC games like MOA and BF1942 so I know it is in them.

EA has a great relationship with the box. it's not easy to make games. espessially sport games. they take time and percision. thats why they stayed with the engine of the ps2. those titles were alread in development for that system even before the xbox and gamecube system came out. theres not enough good developers. look at all the games that suck. that's just crappy developers. thats why EA already said that they are going to support XBOX LIVE next year and take advantage of the xbox hardware....it's all about money not us gamers. there not gonna stop development on a title and make a special one for us. it's not cost effective.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. The xbox rep said it was up to the game devs to charge for extra content. Game devs make extra content to keep exsisting players interested so they will turn friends towards the game as long as it is fresh.

But then again, it might turn into a rip off fest because the gamer will not be able to produce extra content like maps for example. And one thing is for sure, MS is trying to squeeze ever penny out of xbox owners (warranty, dvd ability and live subcription for starters). I know it cost money to provide services, but if you bought a PC MS game like motocross madness, playing online (MS gaming zone) and extra content always came with no charge, so its a little disappointing to see the change.

But hopefully it will rock and live will be everything they hype it up to be....

No it isn't being biased towards EA, it is a fact that they rarely try when a game of theirs comes in a lime green Xbox case.

Agent Under Fire: First game to not even support the lowest of standards on the Xbox, 480p. That is lazy programming and has nothing to do with the PS2 other than EA didn't take the time to finish it for the Xbox.

Need For Speed 2: The game actually looks worse on the Xbox than on the PS2. How is that even possible?

Then there is another PS2 port that actually stutters on the Xbox while running smooth on the PS2. Again, how is that possible without not giving a damn about the Xbox? (I'll have to look up which game that was)

Then there is the whole Xbox Live snub that they've done.

They aren't a bad developer, so it just makes you wonder why they put no effort into the Xbox version of games, other than they just do a quick job to reap in a few extra bucks. They are riding on their name, and soon they won't have anything to ride on.

However, if a developer or MS puts a lot of time and money into bonus material its up to the consumer to decide whether its worthy of $$$ on case by case scenario.

It did state in the transcript that there would be 'free' DL content!? Again I 'hope' this is the trend but will have to "wait and see." Since XBL won't hit Australia till well into next year I'll have plenty of time to sit on my hands.

Not always. Arguably one of the best games online for the PC has been Counter Strike. It also happens to be a completely free mod for Halflife.

The best maps for UT came after the game was released....all have been free, even the ones put together by Epic themselves. They were quite generous with their numorous map packs released over the years.

I agree that it will be mostly case by case decisions but there is very little added value material worth paying for. Counter Strike would have been worth paying for and it eventually did become a packaged product. The purpose for new downloadable content should be to keep interest in the game, not wring out every last hard earned dollar from loyal fans.

Should a developer go that extra mile though and I can see this happening with a few games, not just 'live' games, that would extend game life then it would be allright to ask a few bucks. For maps, costumes, characters even just a few extra missions that would definitely be a rip off.

But If Splinter Cell (just an example) released a new adventure, had a distribution base of 1,000,000+ copies, instead of releasing a whole new game at USD$50 they might be 'able' to say "pay us USD$5 for the new download" (again just an example). This would be one aspect of Xbox being online and reducing costs because developers wouldn't have to worry about packaging, publishers, associated distribution costs etc giving the consumer the benefit even if they do have to pay "extra". Another example my be if increased multiplayer functionality was featured at additional cost to the developer through infrastructure? *wonders about Halo 2?* :confused:

Ultimately the market decides what is tolerable but with profits tumbling for game developers, check this interview (http://www.xboxcorp.com/news/EpFuZZZApFEqWcqQTP.html) with Molyneux, I can understand why some might feel they have to charge for additional content. No way will I pay for anything extra. The makers of Unreal Championship have already said that everything they add-on will be FREE! So, that is fine with me. Hopefully Ghost Recon will be the same way. I payed 50 bucks for my Beta Starter Kit and I won't pay any more! I hope that most, if not all, games will have free add-ons. I heard someone reply to a post above this one that said that people like me wear Goodwill clothes. there you have it guys "finally it's said" it's up to the DEVELOPER not Microsoft leave them and xbox live alone if it ****es you off so much go protest outside the developers building. all people do is compain about Microsoft is tring to fuc* us and there not. the ps 2 network adaptor is $40 and in about 3 months EA is gonna start charging to play madden online (about 5-10 bucks) then after that you pay more per developer...squaresoft...rockstar...black ops so add it up and compare the value you cheap asses witht the exception of a few brite people

you won't be able to play madden 03 anymore...regardless of if your paying or not. EA is making it so u have to be their latest installment to keep on playing something u bought to play online.

If they come out with Map packs, weapons packs, model packs or mod packs, FOR CHEAP individually (something along the lines of 2.50 -5bucks) that wouldn't be bad... if they had ONE WHOLE PACK encompassing all of those, for 19.99 that wouldn't be bad either. But spending too much on too little is what I'm sure those who don't want to pay for DLable content are worried about. BUT AS EVERYONE SAYS, NO ONE KNOWS WHATS GOING TO BE FOR SALE THERE! So sit and wait mode is the best solution for the moment.

Yeah, another port and not even a port from the PC side but a port from the PS2...again. Going on all past ports from EA it is going to blow and not look or run any better than the PS2 counterpart. Let alone it will have been a year since the game came out by the time it shows up on the Xbox.

That's not entirely true. How many pc games are followed up with an "expansion pack" costing up to the same amount as the original release???

These expansion packs usually amounts to little more than a couple new levels and some new weapons. So, this is the same thing with XBL, but it sounds to me, that it will be far less expensive than having to go out and buy the expansion pack.
