I have some n00b questions about online gaming

Gotz some n00b questions about online gaming and the XBOX

Until XBOX Live rolls out next month, where do you all go to game online? Gamespy?

For gamespy etc, I assume you need a regular computer on the same LAN as the XBOX to set things up, right?

Since the XBOX is actually a computer (Windows 2000 variant) and has a hard drive as I understand it, what is being done to protect online gamers from viruses and trojans? It would suk to get a virus on an XBOX and have no way to fix it

Should I go and buy the needed wireless equipment from Linksys now to get online or just wait until XBOX Live is released?

Is there any list of games that currently are playable online? Maybe i dont even have any games that can be played online

Most people use XBConnect. It's a lot better (less lag). But you can use Gamespy.

And you can't get viruses on the Xbox (yet). The XBConnect software and Gamespy don't allow anything to be downloaded to the Xbox hard drive, so I think it's pretty much impossible. Don't quote me on that though.

With Xbox Live you're still going to need the proper cables and a router, so I'd recommend getting it now. You'll need it soon enough anyways.

I'm not sure what you can play online exactly, but I know it includes Halo, some Nascar game, Tony Hawk 2 (and 3?). I think Halo is all that is played though. LOL

Im going to wait about a month and then buy the live starter kit...just to see if something goes drastically wrong or if theres a virus or some crazy crap going on...plus it'll give me some time to get good at the games that im going to be playing online (MechAssault, UC, etc)

doesnt Unreal and Mechassult come out the same day as the live kit? so dont think it isnt good cause there are no good games for it, on release there should be
