I know that XBL requires broadband, which I have, but it seems like everywhere I read the requirements it specifically says Cable or DSL. Here in my dorm, we have a University Network that we use to connect to the net. Will this be enough to run XBL? When I preoredered it at FuncoLand, the clerk was skeptical at best. Does anyone know if I have the joys of Xbox Live in my future?

Yes you should be able to technically. A college network is using the same tech as said DSL and Cable just without the modem. The only problem comes with each specific college. Some setup firewalls to block traffic on say networks like Kazaa or back in the day Napster. Others cap your bandwidth or monitor it and will block access to certain IPs if they notice alot of bandwidth being used up going to that site or in this case Live. It is something you would have to take up with your college though.
But if they are cool with it and their current network setup gives you no problems then you should be fine. I've seen quite a few college campuses that have extremely fast networks.

i go to the university at buffalo and my beta kit works fine. we use a T3 connection. all i did was get a router. although i have noticed that the router causes me not to be able to use the network neighborhood (it doesnt find any other comps). to get around this i have to shut down my comp, plug it directly into the wall (so i can't use live). not a big deal though, cuz i only use the network every now and then to find some music
