Medal Gear and Medal of Honor both surface on the each console around the same time in their respective histories. For one console these games are big name titles and head turners that get raved reviews. For the other console (though improved) theses games are not big name titles and dont get as good of reviews because the other console has a higher bar in which quality is judged and a bunch of higher quality games released around the same time.

I'm not too sold on MGS yet, it's starting to look almost identical to the version on PS2.

Bigwig...Apr. 2001???? Are you like the founder of this site or just one of the originals? Regardless, it's still good to have someone around that was here from the beginning :)

I don't agree. What it is is the fact that they are ports, not exclusives. Honestly the only game from Xbox that if it went to PS2 that would be big is HALO. And the hype wouldn't be close to us. It's not the third party or second party devolopers that make an impact... its first party. So if GTA came to Xbox it would be big. If SOCOM came to Xbox today it would be big. If Grand Turismo came it would be big. You are stating something that is completely not true. I can counteract your statement with:

Look how big Wreckless was for Xbox, now look how big it is for PS2 and GC, no one cares.

you want an easy way to tell? look at the commercials. ps2 is doing what they did in the begging not showing any gameplay but simply trying to sell you off on name recognition and when you do see game play it's laugable just becasue of the outdated grpahics alone, like when i saw that submarine game or shinobi i almost laughed. xbox on the other hand when you see a commercial they show more then four seconds of footage and it gets the point across that these are good games and their not hiding. if you saw ninja gaiden footage and aganist ninja shinobi footage you know that gaiden is the winner

Wrecless and Dead to Rights would do as well as MGS and Medal of Honor. The difference is MGS and MOH are better games and slightly improved for the Xbox though are stil lost in the shuffle on the Xbox. Also even thoug I see your point SOCOM and Turismo would not be that big with all the racing games and shooters on the Box.

SOCOM and Grand Turismo would be huge! I own both an Xbox and a PS2 and if you are going to even compare their game selections your are on crack....

XBOX is an RPG players HELL.... there are like 5 RPGs, two of which might be good. Down the line there will be more, but 5 in the first year?

PS2 is an RPG players Heaven. They have Squares backing. What more do you need?

XBOX is a racers regular old Earth. You get the support of Sega GT and PGR, and then what? Rallisport....maybe.

PS2 is a racers halfway to Heaven.... Grand Turismo with an excellent selection of cars, halfway graphics, excellent upgrades. Then they have the faster and better NFS: Hot Pursuit. They have Star Wars Racer: Revenge.

I won't go on because FPS is an Xbox Heaven while an Action/Adventure just lets a PS2 player bathe in glory. But your comparisons suck. If Project Gotham went to PS2 it would be a mild hit, the graphics would maybe be as good as those of A-Spec, and the gameplay mechanics wouldn't appeal to those of Grand Turismo experience. You know damned well that if half of the titles on the PS2 where on your Xbox they would also be in your game selection. And upgrades? I played MOH multiplayer last nite, and it sucked. Try something else, as for Substance its going to PS2 also.... Xbox games are better, but the PS2 has the variety and the multiple choices in each category. If I had to pick a system it would be Xbox, if I had to pick the games, it would be the PS2's collection...

There is no such thing as "better games" or the "best game" because everyone has a different opinion. Yes, the Xbox has way better looking games, and games that could not be possible on another console, but thats another story.

I bought the Xbox for RPGs. I and a lot of exclusive Xbox owners dont like Squares pathetic linear, cutscense, boring TB combat, freak shows. Bethasda, Bioware, and BBB trump square easy. Then you have my favorite two Japanese RPGs Shenmue and PSO. Also you cant really make a down home modern deep RPG without a HD becasue modern 3D graphics take so much memory so the Xbox is the RPG console without question. KOTR and Sea Dogs 2 are only a few months away while Sony has only released one FF in two years.

MM maybe but not with Xbox Live. 56k is too slow for racing games. On Sony you have to cash out for highspeed to play online. Xbox Live makes GP Moto the most fun racing game around while Apex on papers so far owns Turismo. Turismo has always been an overated racing game. Need for Speed controls better.

I will agree with Action Adventure but thats it. 50% of PS2 titles are either Action adventure or platform and that gives it a variety hit. With the Xbox you have much more originality especially when you consider that Sony had a year head start. Is there anything on the PS 2 present or future like Fable, Sea Dogs 2, Deathrow, N.U.D.E, DOAVB, BC, Shenmue 2, Steel Batallion, Blinkx, Splinter Cell,?? Nope they aint. Thats why MGS 2and MOH which were hot on the PS 2 are lukewarm on the Xbox

Xbox has 2 rpg's. Morrowind and Baldurs Gate. The rest are just action games...like Shenmue 2.

PS2 just has a bunch of linear, no replay value, cartoon spike haired midget action games that they call RPG's. The actual rpg's they have just plain suck.

Ok , Ill break it down :

Racing-

Ps2: Gran Turismo 3
Xbox- Project Gotham , Rallisport Challenge , Sega GT

Xbox wins in racing games

shooters-

PS2:Socom, Metal Gear sold 2: sons of liberty
Xbox: Halo , Dead to rights, Splinter Cell, UC, Mechassault, Halo 2

Xbox wins in shooters

sports- (excluding multi-platform)

ps2: ____________
Xbox: DOA: XBV , Outlaw Golf

xbox wins in sports

Online-

ps2: some games use headset, some games use friend lists, different id on every game
xbox: all games use headset, every game uses friend lists, same id on every game, optimatch

Xbox wins in online

Action-

Ps2- GTA3, GTA:VC
XBOX: JSRF, Hunter the reckoning , Buffy

I would consider this a tie since gta3 and VC are pracrtically the same

RPG-

PS2- FF series
Xbox- Morrowind

OK, ill give them this but in a year itll be close, PS2 wins for RPG

***I used the games that are most talked bout in each section

So as you can tell xbox won in most genres except rpg and action (which was a tie and easily couldve been won if i counted shooters as action)

ps2- tekken series

Two Words...Max Payne...if you ever see the pathetic PS2 version running next to the Xbox version, you'll understand...with the PS2 version you can't quicksave, it moves very choppy, and, worst of all, you can't see the bullets in bullet time...

moto GP is wicked on xbox live , but dont buy it! you get the demo with xbox live and then if you rent it you can unlock everything! it saves it to the harddrive! AHHHH! the power of xbox

I cant give PS 2 RPGs with Shenmue and PSO to go with Morrowind but I will give them adventure and fighting because even though Tekken sucks VR4 is in my opinon the best fighting game, and also Victorious Boxers is better then KO Kings

Shenmue is much more of an RPG then BGDA. I like both games but BGDA is more of an adventure game while in Shenmue though being somewhat linear you play more of a role

But in Shenmue, there is the same guy all the time, you have no freedom, and freedom is a MUST in rpg games, which makes shenmue a simple Action game.

Whats next, Max Payne is an rpg also?

^^ Being the same guy all the time does not mean anything. There are plenty valid single player RPGs. Your freedom is limited in Shenmue and I can see a purest calling it more of an adventure/RPG hybird but its still much more of an RPG then BGDA. Its cool though Bioware is making an exclusive Xbox D&D RPG thats heavy on roleplaying.

this is all my opinion.

shenmue2 is an adventure game not an action game. I never played BG:DA but the bulders gate series for the PC are RPGs not adventure. morrowind is more of an rpg than the FF series, the FF series stradle the line between adventure and rpg like most of the so called japanese RPG's.

roleplaying games to me means that you take on a characture or team of charactures persona and build that characture using that charactures backround as a basis. for example, if your playing a game where you are a thief, roleplaying that characture would mean that you would do things that a thief would do, like steal, cheat etc. if you are playing a paladin you would look to help people in distress. but it would be your option. most of those FF type games dont actually allow you to roleplay. they give you a characture and you just basicly follow the story. you may have choices on where you go when but you dont have a choice in how that characture is developed throught the game.

take morrowind for example. if you pick a thief as your characture, you have the option of stealing things and building that charactures skills up as a thief, even though you can build the characture anyway you want. you can specialise in sneak, picking locks, etc so you have the option to become a actual thief in the game world, on your own. In the FF series, they may have a thief characture in it but you are at the mercy of the storyline whether or not you actually get to play as a thief. and when th story calls for it, you have no choice but to do it. when it gets to where following the storyline developes your characture the way it fits into the story line, it becomes an adventure game. yea you are still roleplaying, as much as you are roleplaying any characture in any game, but that doesnt make the game an RPG.

Adventure game = theres predetermined story, you follow through the story as it is brought to you acting out the events of the story.

RPG game = theres may or may not be a set story. you pick or is given a characture(s). and you create your own storyline events in the way you see fit, trying to do things the way that the characture you pick or are givin would do them. developing your characture along the way to help you get goals accomplished
