View Full Version : 2 XBL accounts 1 DSL connection
Ive got 2 xboxs and 1 DSL connection. Im aware i need to by another starter kit and have two seperate accounts. But is it possible to have 2 sessions of XBL going like this?
It would be nice if me and my Cuz could play online at the same time.

I wouldn't see why not. It usually gives you the opportunity to sign in each time. So, I would think you would be able to have both people playing on the same XBox too. Of course, I'm not too sure about this.

Yes it would work, but you have alot of lag. Splitting the connection between two Xboxes is A HUGE different than splitscreen. You need more 2x more bandwidth. Splitscreen just about uses the same amount of bandwidth as a normal 1 player game, its and extra 2-5 Kb for splitscreen, but an extra Xbox require double the bandwitdh requirements...

I did this the other night here, and not really that much lag, I have DSL. We played FEVER.

Really? So if both connect to XBL via HUb + DSL its playable?
How much lag is "not to much lag"
Like what was the ping if you were to guess?

I have a router and think that you might want to use that since it gives each box an IP address.

Actually.. with most DSL/Cable connections this shouldn't be a problem. I have a router and I run three computers and an Xbox. One of my computers is usually downloading/uploading stuff.. the other is on the network, and the other is my wife's which she uses to play a game. I never have a bit of lag even with 3-4 devices using bandwidth. 2 Xboxes should be a problem at all. Also, you can use more than one account on one xbox.
Hope this helps

Ok sounds good........
Im going to bring my xbox to a friends to test 2 connections on 1 cable modem + router. I just want to see if there is a performance loss.
Thanks for the help guys:)
Well I brought my Xbox over to my peoples crib and we used a router with 2 XBL connections. It seemed to have been working fine. Some people in moto GP said we were skipping around. But still, its playable, which is cool.
Heres some concerns of mine, that maybe someone could help me out with,
NiK2deeps cable Connection stats
UL: 56kb
DL:: 6706kb
JJaX DSL connection Stats
UL: 78kb
DL: 239kb
Notice my Download speed is much slower. Will my DSL connection perform as well as his cable connection.
I just want to be really sure before I go out and buy another XBL account and a linksys router and a 50ft cat 5 wire :p

It will probably work better considering that your upload is higher. 239 kb download is still relatively fast, so you shouldn't have a problem man.
Cool!
Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

That connection is horrid:(...No wonder you were skipping! Your gonna have a tough time playing Unreal/MA since it requires 2x more bandwidth then Moto GP....The min connection for UC is 120Kup/500K Down....
Try doing a bandwidth test from the Xbox itself... I posted it here somewere...Looking....

Good, I won't have a bandwidth problem! Go to http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp and test your comp. Thank the Lord for Fiber Optic online connections! I want to play Mech Assault now! Arrrgghhh...I still need to choose a gamertag. See you guys online!
My connection stats:
D/L-1052 Kb/s
U/L-815 Kb/s
My computer stats:
Pentium 3 500mhz
256mb RAM
12.7gb Hard Drive
(I need a way faster pc to unlock the full potential of my connection. I have a friend w/ a great pc and fiber who gets like 8000-10000 Kb/s for the D/L. His pc has a gig of RAM, like 1.7ghz amd, and an 80gb hard drive. It's nuts!)

It will slow your speed down.. picture two cars traveling on a one lane highway. If one slows down the other must. So, any lag experience in your line as one will be multiplied because you have 2 XBOX connections running through the same internet connection.
Like if you are using a cable connection of 350 kbps. and hook up two XBOXs you probably would communicate at 175 each. I believe this simple equation works. At least perhaps Casper might have a better answer he does a lot of work with this crap..:)

I seemingly have problems with my DSL. I month ago, I checked it at dslreports.com, and I had 1052k d/l and a 1112 u/l. (I know it makes no sense, my u/l is faster.) Yet lately, half the time it says it can't find the connection, and msn or kazaa won't work. Then I go to control panel and go to network connections, it says its enabled, and then magically the internet works again. Anyone know whether this will be a problem on live? Also, whenever I try to transfer a file using msn messenger with one of my friends, it never downloads anything and it always fails. Any help for a person with a ghetto connection?

I dont run on DSL I run on Cable.. so it maybe a computer problem I doubt the internet is "down to you".. I think you Computer maybe have a problem in your system setup for internet connections. Have checked all your settings with your service providers instructions?
I have made some slight errors on reinstallation and have found soemtimes a setting may not be right?
