I am having problems connecting. My ISP is Comcast through a cable modem.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems connecting through Comcast.

YES, Comcast is a ***** with ISPs. I have spoken with XBox Support and they stated that Comcast has fought them every step of the way. Comcast uses dynamic ISPs, so they change everytime, but for some reason, after a few tries with the cable modem, you have difficulty. Best suggestion...do what I did. Go get a router. It ends up being well worth the money for the less hassle you will have with Comcast. I have had no problems since using my router.
Hey Rudedogx,
My boy NiK is still having problems with his comcast connetion. He gets disconnected every few minutes, but sometimes it works for an hour tops.
He even has a router and the problem still occurs. a comcast tech is coming to his pad thurday.
You know the comcast people are going to say "Its microsoft, not us!"
Freakin cowards.......

Yup, that's pretty much what they were sayin' when I talked to them with my problem. They were sayin' that MS hadn't sent them the set-up plan, and MS said the opposite and that Comcast wasn't being cooperative. Either way...don't let Comcast bullsh*t you, it's their fault, they're just trying to make it more expensive. Has Nik2Deep talked to Xbox Support? They actually were pretty helpful in the end.
When he talked to Xbox support he got on the phone with some little kid ("punk ass mofuka") that didnt know anything.

Okay...I'm gonna go out tonight and purchase a router. I've set my sights on a NetGear RP614NA 10/100 router (saw it at BestBuy for 49.99 after rebate), but I don't have any idea what I'll need to do to set it up.
Is this a good router?
Is it relatively simple to install?
Do I need a PC to set it up, cuz if I do I'll need to borrow a laptop from my friend.
I think I understand how this will solve the problem, but I'm not certain. Can someone explain to me how this is supposed solve my problem in plain english and not techie talk. I didn't know that I was gonna have to become a PC tech to get my Xbox Live account to work, but I guess I'm gonna have to.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Net Gear is good stuff. Pretty easy to set up too.
I use comcast and I have a Linksys router... no complaints. I always ping low as heck, and never had the slightest teeny tiny problem.

I've got a D-Link router now, and have no troubles with Comcast (since I put in the router). So, pretty much find a quality router and your set. You might want to make sure you have a ethernet port though first. If not, buy yourself a nic card too.
