View Full Version : Setting it straight on Satellite

I have satellite dsl, and I wanted to know if this will be a problem for Live. I've heard it will not work, and i've heard it will work.

My speed is around 750 down and 120 up. I have already reserved Live + Mech + UC and if i cannot connect because of satellite i will be ****ed, so please tell me there is someone out there that knows whether or not it will work.thanks

If this is DSL through DIRECT TV and has nothing to do with the satilite dish and is working through your phone lines like regular DSL then it will work fine.

If what you mean is that your actually singnal is going through your direct tv dish on your roof then you may have some very real problems.


Major Lag spikes is the biggest problem, you may expirence lag so bad that games are unplayable.


Otherwise if its regular dsl it will work satilite will work also but with extreme lag spikes and some serious packet loss!

im not sure where the hell its running but it is DIRECTV dsl and there is a phone live running into my modem, so hopefull it will work

The phone line may just be there for your upload portion.

All satilitte communication uploads are transmitted via 56k dial-up.


It sounds like to me you have regular phone line DSL.


With the speeds you mentioned i think you will be ok.

BTW, I dont think direct tv dsl is satillite anyways

I think you should be fine. A friend of mine has DirectTV DSL.
Basically they gave him a gateway and it works through his phone lines.

If your unsure, call up the tech support and ask them if the service you have uses the satellite dish or not.

yea they gave me a gateway also. hopefully ill be good-to-go on friday. yeeea
