Hi everyone,
We launched a new website, Gamertags, at http://www.gamertags.com . Register your Xbox Live gamertag (for free, of course) and you will be able to find Xbox Live gamers in your area, country, state/province, using the same provider and more. And it works the other way around also: after registering, other gamers will be able to find you so you can meet up for a good Xbox Live game.
We spent about 200-300 hours coding (since about 4 weeks ago). One of the (in our opinion) great features is being able to find gamertags by provider. For online (broadband) gaming, one of the most important factors for a smooth gameplay, is a low ping (the time it takes for a message to get back to you from another player). If you play against a player using the same provider, the ping will always be better than with another provider. It just works like that; there are less "hops" between you and the player. So playing against someone a thousand miles away but using the same provider, might be better than playing against a next-door friend on another provider.
Another great feature for people who don't have English as their first language is the ability to search for gamers speaking the same language. Great for those who speak Spanish or French (les Québécois eg).
Go ahead and register your gamertag. We know other sites exist too, and we weren't the first to launch, but we hope you'll give us a try (why not use more than one "gamertag" site, after all).
We'll soon have game scheduling and clan features available, too. We'll also translate the site into French and other languages in the future.
