WHats the point of having a gamertag???

No one seems to use their actual gamertag in the game. SO I get a feriend request of even a game invite from someone and I dont recall playing with them because they dont use their actualy gamertag name. THis kinda is screwed up in my opinion. I really dont get it at all.

Whenever you get an invite it is always displayed as the persons gamertag. So if you enter a game and they have a different game it is becuase they are using one of their profiles from the game. Not all games allow you to do this. Infact, I believe only Unreal Championship has the option of using a different name. Which is nice for those of us who have guests that play with us. They would prefer not being named "Guest of ___", I am sure they would rather load thier own profile. I use a profile with the same name as my gamertag.

As well the gamertag is used for many many other things. It is how MS identifies you. So when they are doing rankings etc they use your gamertag. If they have to charge you a bill, gamertag, if they have to kick you off of Live, gamertag and IP# ->which is found by identifying your gamertag first, invite you to a tournament, gamertag, etc etc etc...

It's an identity for the person. I haven't decided what mine is going to be yet but it won't be Burning Ranger. Probably a Japanese name.

Yeah I always use my gamertag, or somethign really close. I used HNIc for a littl while. But still this whole thing can get confusing.

I know of no way to appear other than your gamertag unless you're playin' unreal. Since I don't play that game, I have no clue what the hell you're talkin' about.:eek:

Yeah I a referring to Unreal, sorry if I didnt make that clear. I was tld the other XL games your couldnt be shown as anything else but your gamertag.

BTW who in Dirty DOzen plays Unreal?? I would like to challenge some of them or at least play with some of them in some CTF, Deathmath or whatever.
