February 25, 2003 - Ubi Soft is bringing more online assault action with the announcement of a new Ghost Recon campaign disk to be released this summer. The cleverly named Island Thunder campaign disk will feature an eight level solo campaign, new gameplay types and 12 new multiplayer maps for the Xbox, four of which will be determined by you, the IGN audience.
"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of our most popular games on Xbox Live and has everyone going wild!" said David Hufford, Xbox marketing manager. "With Xbox Live, gamers can download content like new characters, levels and maps, injecting new energy into gameplay, and keeping games like this fresh and engaging."

While it's described as a campaign disk, this next Ghost Recon episode will be a standalone product and will not require gamers to have a copy of the original Ghost Recon for Xbox. The game will be compatible with Xbox Live's online gameplay and will feature downloadable content once it arrives in the fall of 2003. The new gameplay types could prove to be the most intriguing enhancement for the Ghost Recon franchise since Ubi Soft is promising at least 12 different game modes for the campaign disk as compared to the handful currently available for Ghost Recon. While a price for Island Thunder hasn't been announced, Ubi Soft suggests that gamers in North America won't have to drop a full $50 for the semi-new title.

"The Clancy brand owes its incredible popularity to gamers who want an intense and realistic gameplay experience," said Tony Kee, Ubi Soft's vice president of marketing. "With this new campaign disk, Ubi Soft Entertainment can give back to Ghost Recon fans, providing them with more of their favorite Ghost action without the price tag of a whole new game."

What Ghost Recon levels do you want in the campaign disk?

The campaign disk comes with a short solo campaign that takes place in Cuba (the island in the Island Thunder expansion pack) but the intent of the new disc is to expand Ghost Recon's online gameplay with the eight new maps and new styles of play. IGN readers have the opportunity to choose what the remaining four maps will be by selecting their favorite level from the original Ghost Recon. The top vote-getters will be included in the campaign disk and will be made available for online play.

IGN will have more on the Ghost Recon campaign disk in the coming weeks as well as any news about Ubi Soft's upcoming tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Raven Shield. Be sure to cast your vote for your favorite GR map that you want to see in the Island Thunder campaign disk and check back later this week when we announced the results.

DZ, read this again..it explains that it's asking you to vote for the maps from the current version of GR, such as the Embassy, Castle and such. What I'm mad about is that the Night Docks isn't an option, yet the Swamp is?? WTF? Regardless, I Will be getting this as I have it already for the PC and it kicks major ass.,

seriously..that leads me to belive that if i wanted to play a map that wasn't on thunder but on the original i'd have to put in that disc?

i really hope that if your in Thunders lobby and u have your original gr maps and unlockables on your harddrive that it will recgonize that and make such available.

This has been my biggest complaint about this campaign disc. However, I really don't think there will be much we can do about it since as far as I know, the original maps are stored on the original CD, not on the HD. What would be nice is if they included the original maps on the new CD, but you could only use them if it found a save file or something on your HD that indicated you had the original. Of course that probably wouldn't work as people could just rent the original or copy a save file from a friend.

Oh yea, and I still wonder why anyone thought that the swamp would be a good map to include on the campaign disc.

Thats why they need to make this a F'n add on disk....

i want to be able to play all the damn maps. This is stupid that we only get to "vote" for 4 maps...

You know all the fat head n00bs are gonna pick tired ass maps like swamp, red square and training.

Well the PC Thunder Crap's campaign is pretty cool. I have completed it and find it fun. The expansion will take this game further and farther than ever possibly thought before. At least maybe better than the patch Brent at UBI told me was gonna be so great.. well at least the future patch..

and returns...

am I the only one who wouldn't be surprised if they found a way to add some cr*p and bump the price up to 49.99?

Actually...what's memorable is the fact that you actually think that we are panicking over this.

As for the jacking the price up...that's always a possibilty, but by that time, raven shield will either be close to being out or out, so it'll be hard to justify purchasing the product for that much.
