Well, here is the article from the front page:

Tecmo: Hands Off Those Bikinis, Lads

In a message posted to Tecmo’s official forums earlier this week, the company warned Xbox hackers to stop developing "nude patches" for Dead of Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, the monument to human libido the company released for the Xbox in January.

"We’re watching you very closely! Please do not post things that infringe copyrights and other legal issues," the message reads. "So far we’re tracking one suspect; anybody care to be the second? Please do not post anything about nude patches and other hacked information or you will be punished to the fullest extent of the law."

The patches (several of which are in development) mess around with the textures used to build the bodies of DOAX’s lovely ladies to make them appear completely unclothed. Although screenshots (which we regrettably can’t repost here) have been going around the net for a few days, actually running the patch is a complex procedure—you need both a modified Xbox and several extra tools to install it correctly.

This isn’t the first time Tecmo’s run into hacker trouble with the Dead or Alive series—in September it won a court case against a Japanese CD-ROM publisher who built a Dead or Alive 2 editor that allowed randy gamers to remove Kasumi’s clothes.

Honestly I think since someone has purchased the software, tecmo really shouldn't be concerned with what they do to it. It's not like the nudity is included with the game, and the only side effect of this patch is that it is going to sell a whole lot more games for them.

So do they have the right to complain? Quake developers were thrilled as hell when people started making mods for their game as they realized it was moving more copies of their products off the shelves. Why should tecmo feel any differently?

I think they feel differently because maybe they care more about the game they created then the money they will make off of the game. How else do you explain Team Ninja being a Xbox second party. They picked the Xbox because it allowed them to fully realize the games they wanted to make. IMO

they might feal that way cause it tecmos game and it wasnt ment to be hacked into and tamperd with to get the famous " topless mode " and also they might be afraid that people would press charges against them for the topless mode

btw: sorry if this post makes no sence what so ever:D

Of, course they do. There material is copyrighted so if you modifiy anything that they make that is breaking the copyright. Plus its makes them look bad to consumers that don't like nudity in there games. It makes them look like they made the nude patch or that they let peopl make the nude patch.

I don't know why they're complaining... it's something that's only going to appeal to hardcore (no pun intended) gamers. Who's really going to mod their Xbox just to have nudity in a beach volleyball game?

Noone's really complained about nude patches in the past... in fact, it seems as though certain developers (Morrowind, The Sims) encourage that sort of creativity and admire the resourcefulness of their clientelle. In Morrowind's case, it was the project's lead programmer who gave out the code (on Morrowind's official forums) that allowed nude (and other) meshes to be created! :D

Everyone's too anal about nudity these days...

As long as people dont "sell" the patches or whatever, if people need it that bad to enjoy the game then meh...Im with Temco really if the people are making a profit form it..

I think the fact they announced they are supposedly " Upset " will make more headlines and draw more attention the game than if they left it alone. More headlines and publicity good or bad always leads to more sales so in the end there the big winner. They come out great this way. On one hand people will say WoW they care about decency, family values etc, etc, and will be liked than in the background there sipping ****tails pool side with real bikini clad women raking in the extra cash the free publicity created

LMFAO haha "****tails" got censored

I don't know about this.Truthfully I think Tecmo does have the right to complain.Lets say that some parent see there kid playing around with this patch for nude women in DOAXBV there going to be like, "hey what kinda crap is this,i'm going to sue those tecmo son's of *****es for what they are doing."Then tecmo is going to take all the heat, while the little hacker *****es are out there lauging.

Of course this same kid's parents have to be alright with him taking apart his xbox to install a mod chip... and probably not for the regional encoding disable feature it has... Maybe this kid's parents should have started with the moral B.S. a little earlier.

I don't think Tecmo wants people reading the code that they created to make this game. Its just like how Microsoft makes it insanely impossible for hackers to discover its windows source code.

Who would want to look at naked virtual women? this society is sick.

Why exactly does that make this society quick? Every other society from today all the way back to the days of cavemen has had pornography. From drawings on cave walls to paintings to sculptures to videos and now to virtual reality. As long as there are people on the earth chances are there will be porn, and this is the next logical progression in it.

yea well, if they had just put a nude code in the game in the first place, none of this would have happened. lol

Yeah! They were planning on that in the first place... why is it that when Xbox first came out, we were promised the first truly adult video game system thanks to the rating controls, and now all games are getting watered down to teen ratings? What's the use of a parental system if there are no games to test it? Is the Xbox really going to 6 and 7 year olds?

Because, a MOD chip is needed for the patch, and Tecmo isn't going to support something illegal

either way its silly i saw the pics and who would want to play looking at women with strings hanging on there hips and neck and stuff they didnt get fully nude LOL they didnt get rid of full bikini! i dont mind adult stuff in games but only if it is meant to be there but where do you draw the line with this situation ya know. i like the game it is oddly fun and the graphics are nice. :p but i am not crazy enough to mod chip my system to get nudity in a game if it is there cause it is supposed to be thats another thing but why waste money mod chipping your xbox and finding out how to get the hack and stuff when you can just go buy a porno video for cheaper :P
take that you filthy blue jackethttp://us.news1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20030330/thumb.1049001486blue_jackets_flames_cgyz107.jpg

Now this is what I call hypocrosy.

They release a game which provides little more than tittilation and fantasy (a nice one at that :D ) and then they complain when people take it a step further?

Erm no Nash.

There are times when somebody says something and they actually sincerely mean it.

The world isn't all that bad, especially when I lend you my rose tinted specs ;)

ok you won me over :D but i really think if your gonna mod chip and hack doa beach volleyball for nudity it is more worth it just to get a porno LOL or go drinking ;) or the strip club which are all better ways to see nude women  LOL wasn't against what anyone says here its just kinda silly that tecmo is going nutty about it cause people will be people. i would say they are wrong in what they are doing but right at same time.... it truly is an issue best left alone... but a peaceful debate over this is fine dont want the industry to be too much of a control freak :O
