The Seattle Times reports that an estimated half a million people now subscribe to Xbox Live. Microsoft launched the system in November in definace of different strategies at rivals Nintendo and Sony. Nintendo of America vice president Perrin Kaplan is quoted as saying that online console gaming is still an experiment - even though GameCube has the ability to go online. Sony has pushed its system online - allowing both broadband and dialup connectivity - but hasn’t seen the success that Xbox Live has.

i wonder how many people have actually purchased broadband solely for xbl, or since it was released....

because they are the real winnners, w/o BB xbl starter kits are worthless, but i'm sure alot of the 500,000 already had it....:)

Yeah and something else to think about it is how many people left AOL Broadband because it would not work with XBL.

imagine this, if ms charges life for another 50$ for a year, after ur first year of free live is up, and an estimate of 400,000 could be paying the start of the new subsribtion by january.
they will make,

400,000 times 50= 20 million dollars

plus more to come.

it shows that xbl was the best idea ms ever made.

I think that they should. I mean, I've bought a router, also another like 15 friends have as well. Good business for the router companies. They should give like 10% of sales to MS lol.

I ended up picking up a router, but after rebates, it was like 5 bucks. Works like a charm though.

Same here. This is some good news for Microsoft, to think people were doubting XBL.
