Spawn Coming
From Soul Cal 2 to his own Xbox game.
April 24, 2003 - Namco Ltd. is officially in development with a game based on the hugely popular Todd McFarlane-created character, Spawn, for the PS2, GameCube and Xbox, our Japanese sources have learned.
Due in November 2003 and in development with California-based Point of View (NFL Blitz 20-03, The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian), the tentatively named Spawn is an action-adventure game shown from a multitude of third-person camera angles. Previous sources have told IGN Spawn feels and plays like Capcom's robust action game Devil May Cry and that the controls are similarly intuitive. That is a good thing.
Naturally, players take on the role of Spawn, the *******-creation on Satan himself, and a tortured soul meant to be the general of Hell's army when the apocalypse comes. Once the human Al Simmons, the newly emerged Spawn finds himself in a fight for personal free will, a struggle that plays out in the larger scope of things as a battle royale between Heaven and Hell.
Spawn is capable of incredible inhuman abilities such as acrobatic jumps, double jumps, glides and the ability to climb nearly all parts of his urban landscape. Gamers can engage in an elaborate set of fighting scenarios using a hand-to-hand, combo-based fighting system that re-creates the combat style from the comic book. More importantly, Spawn is capable of supernatural strength and constitution, a swath of devastating Hell Powers, and a huge cache of mega-powerful weapons. Players will also work with, and perhaps against, Spawn's symbiotic costume as well.
During the course of the story-driven adventure, Spawn encounters and must fight with a slew of corrupt enemies both human and non-human. He encounters enemies such as the New York Mafia, the police department, Malebolgia and powerful warrior-angels from Heaven. Favorite comic book enemies Tremor, Cy-Gor and Violater are likely to appear.
